Fair Trade And Chocolate: The Divine Story
http://www.tvchoice.uk.com - Fair Trade And Chocolate: The Divine Story - 30 mins Buy a bar of fair trade chocolate and help people in the developing world, too. This is the unique selling point of Divine Chocolate - but is it too good to be true? SOCIAL ENTERPRISE: Divine was set up a co-op of cocoa farmers in Ghana to give them a share in the profits from their cocoa beans. Divine is a social enterprise and claims its ethical motivation shapes everything it does. But it's had to fight a major marketing battle to find a place in the cutthroat confectionery market. MARKETING MIX: The big chocolate companies spend millions promoting their brands - by comparison Divine can spend almost nothing. Instead it makes creative use of the internet, public relations and its ethical back story. Divine's had to work hard to get onto the supermarket shelves and now wants to get its product to the other outlets people buy their chocolate. BUT IS IT ENOUGH? As well as more money, fair trade has brought real benefits to the African farmers who own Divine. Women get a better deal. Villages get badly needed facilities like wells. But fair trade has its limitations. What about people working in poor conditions in the developing world who aren't in the fair trade loop? DVD EXTRAS include items on product development, the role of the marketing manager and the importance of Divine's brand. Also: ethical trading - what is it and how does it benefit the developing world? TV CHOICE has a range of over 200 educational films and clips for Business Studies, Geography, History, Leisure and Tourism and many other subjects. USA FORMATS AVAILABLE. http://www.tvchoice.uk.com

World Fair Trade Day 2011 - FairMail Cards India
The idea behind Fairmail started in June 2006 in Peru, where the two Dutch pioneers where already living for 3 years by then and also working (see www.otracosa.info). They started the Peruvian company Fairmail Peru by teaching 5 local teenagers photography skills. After winning the Business in Development Challenge in 2006 FairMail Peru started selling its postcards to the Dutch World Shops through the certified distributor (by the Dutch Association of World Shops) Bondgenoot Partner. During spring of 2007 the pioneers decided to expand the concept of FairMail over the rest of the world with the goal of having 3 different production and 6 sales countries by 2012. The Netherlands was chosen as distribution country for the products coming from the different production countries (up till now Peru and India, with Marocco being added in 2011). For this purpose the Dutch based FairMail Cards was initiated in September 2007 as trading organization of "FairMail International". FairMail Cards trades 90% of the products to main stream and fair trade shops in the Netherlands, the UK and Belgium. But also sells through the FairMail webshop and to corporate clients looking for fair trade photography. The other 10% is sold in the production countries (mainly Peru so far). In the end of 2007 the need is felt for external control and certification to prove that FairMail is actually doing what it is promising to do: "provide the opportunity for disadvantaged teenagers to improve their own future and development oppertunities through photography and on a higher level to let the country that provides the beauty on "ethnic postcards" to win a fair part of the profit being made with this beauty". Therefor certification by the Dutch Association of World Shops was attained in March 2008. This helped FairMail to enter the Dutch market.

Marketable security classifications: AFS, trading, held to maturity (CFA Series: balance sheet)
The key difference among the three classifications (available for sale; trading portfolio; and held to maturity) is the treatment of unrealized gains or losses. For example, assume a company owns a coupon-paying bond that increases in value due to a decline in interest rates: * If trading portfolio, the value increase is recognized on the income statement as an unrealized gain and the balance sheet (i.e., Both B/S and I/S) * If available for sale, the value gain is not recognized on the income statement but rather as other comprehensive income (OCI) under equity which, by definition, grows equity but not income (i.e., balance sheet only) * If held to maturity, the unrealized gain is not recognized on either statement (Neither!) Fair Trade: Purple Rice from Laos | Global 3000
In 2009, fair trade sales totaled more than 3.4 billion euros. More than 5 million people in over 60 countries have directly or indirectly profited from fairer ties between producer and consumer. It's a simple idea: Consumers pay a bit more to benefit farmers and producers in less developed countries. Even more exotic products, such as purple rice from Laos, are being sold as fair trade items. But improving the living standard of fair trade rice farmers in Laos is a slow process - since growing crops using chemical fertilizers and pesticides is more profitable. Instead of planting fair trade rice, many farmers have opted to grow maize for Vietnamese clients. Meanwhile, activists are still pushing the fair trade concept, and a portion of the revenue from fair trade products helps fund local infrastructure.

Debt Collectors - Here are 10 tips on how to deal with a debt collector
Debt Collectors What is a debt collector? A debt collector is somebody who works for a loan company. They may write to you. They may phone you. Occasionally, they may visit you at home. Unlike a bailiff, they have very few powers. What debts are covered in debt collection? Debts covered by a debt collector are generally credit cards, loans, and also sometimes, high purchase agreements for things like furniture and vehicles. How will a debt collector contact me? A debt collector will contact you by phone, by email, by letter, by any means possible. Occasionally a debt collector will visit, but this is unusual unless you borrowed money from a doorstep lender, in which case its much more likely. Can I stop a debt collector from contacting me? The best way to stop a debt collector from contacting you is to pay the debt. Perhaps more helpfully, there are number of things that you can do. You find if you just ignore them and don't answer the phones, after a while calls will stop. They comes in waves but they get less and less, the more you don't answer the calls. However, that still leaves you with dealing with the debt and that is a good idea to think about implementing a debt solution. What can I do if a debt collector contacts me about a debt that isn't mine? If someone contacts you about a debt that isn't yours, you can simply ignore it, you can state that fact over the phone. If you find that this continues though, write to the company and tell them, and if that doesn't work you can still think about complaining to the Office of Fair Trading. Are there regulations a debt collector has to follow? The Office of Fair Trading regulates what a debt collector can do and there are quite strict guidelines. In essence, what they're not allowed to do is to embarrass you or to cause a nuisance. Can a debt collector contact anyone else about my debt? A debt collector can't contact anyone else about your debt unless they go to court to seek to do so. Can a debt collector force me to pay the entire debt in full? A debt collector can't force you to do anything at all. The company may take you to court and the court may require you to do things, but a debt collector can't force you to do anything. What can I do if I believe a debt collector has violated regulations? If you believe that a debt collector has overstepped the mark and has breached regulations, then you should write to the company informing them of that fact, and send a copy to the Office of Fair Trading.

World Fair Trade Day 2011 - Ten Thousand Villages
Ten Thousand Villages provides vital, fair income to people in poor countries by marketing their handicrafts and telling their stories in North America. It works with artisans who would otherwise be unemployed or underemployed. Thousands of US people volunteer with Ten Thousand Villages in their home communities and at headquarters in Akron, Pennsylvania. Launched in 1946, it is a non-profit programme of the Mennonite Central Committee (MCC), the relief, development and service agency of North American Mennonite and Brethren in Christ churches. It works with organizations recommended by its representatives, MCC workers or by other ATOs. Staff from headquarters visit craft groups to discuss strengths and challenges, and to share ideas for adapting products to North American markets.
Ethical shopping: The pros and cons
Does ethical shopping improve life for our peers in the developing world? The UK now spends nearly £40bn a year on ethical products. Fairtrade marks can now be seen on everything from Cadbury's Dairy Milk to coffees at Starbucks. But is Fairtrade really more about making Westerners feel good about themselves? What about ethical trading schemes and ensuring we know the goods we buy are sourced from industries globally with sound labour practices? The highlights of this feisty debate, filmed at the Battle of Ideas festival with speakers: Ceri Dingle WORLDwrite director; Pauline Tiffen Divine Chocolate company founder and Dan Rees from the Ethical Trading Initiative, may make you think twice about what you put in your trolley.

How to Negotiate When Buying a Car
Watch more How to Buy a Car videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/436886-How-to-Negotiate-When-Buying-a-Car Step 1: Determine the amount Question your credit union about a loan before talking to a dealer to compare rates. Find out how much cash your credit union will approve. This helps you limit the price range of cars you look at and test drive. Step 2: Research invoice price Go online to research the invoice price -- the amount the dealer pays the manufacturer -- before starting negotiations. While you're at it, check out any rebate information and hidden incentives for the dealer. You gain the advantage by doing your homework. Tip The minimum dealer profit is usually around 3 percent. Step 3: Examine four-square numbers Don't be fooled by the dealer's four-square information -- a worksheet the dealer will present you with when you sit down to negotiate that maps out purchase price, down payment, monthly payment, and trade-in value. Doing your own math prevents them from fudging numbers. Determine the interest rate and loan term before you arrive at the dealership to accurately project your monthly payments. Step 4: Know what monthly payment means Resist negotiating based on monthly payments alone, without contemplating the swelling interest rate or stretched loan term. Monthly payment results from the down payment, loan term, and interest rate. Step 5: Play the game Play the game as well as they do. Be surprised that they can't give you a better offer, even if the terms and price are reasonable, just to see if you can move them. They want to create pressure to close you now, but you have time that they don't -- use it. Tip Don't tell one dealer what another's quote was. You need their respect -- demonstrate that you deserve it. Step 6: Drive the bargain Tell the salesperson you will discuss an acceptable trade-in price for your old car, but first must have a satisfactory price on the new car. Drive the bargain when negotiating, impressing upon them you can sell it yourself for more than they'll pay you. Step 7: Prepare to walk Prepare to walk out if you are not handled respectfully or the price is too outrageous. In fact, with some due diligence, cut to the chase and play hardball -- tell the dealer your price and expect a yes or no. Step 8: Expect fees Expect an onslaught of fees and extras just when you think you're done. Some fees are unavoidable, but many can be easily bargained down or avoided. Virtually all extras are unnecessary and overpriced. Throughout the negotiation process, use your knowledge and the research you've done to get the best deal. Did You Know? Preston Tucker started a new car company on the back of his 1948 Tucker model. This company manufactured just 51 cars before failing in 1949.

How To Trade Currency
http://www.theforexnittygritty.com - Learning how to trade foreign currency can lead to profits as the currencies of the world rise and fall. To profit in foreign exchange trading a trader watches both the fundamentals of various currencies and technical factors that drive market price. For example, the dollar rose in Forex trading the other day as a result of stronger than expected economic reports. After that traders waited for minutes of a Federal Reserve Board meeting, looking for hints of any changes in monetary policy, especially anything that would lead to changes in interest rates. Meanwhile, individuals at trade stations bought dollars with Euros and sold Swiss francs with Yen with the intent of profiting from the changes in relative value of currency pairs of the major currencies of the world. How to trade Forex successfully is to learn the basics of how to trade currencies and then learn the specifics of currencies that the individual wants to trade. The basis of how to trade currency is that currencies are traded one on one. This only makes sense because the Forex market evolved to support foreign trade. A company buys a product from a producer in another nation. The company pays with its own currency and the producer needs to change the currency for its own. Likewise, the company may need to convert its currency to that of the producer in order to make payment. The foreign exchange market provides an orderly means of providing a fair rate of exchange from one currency to the other. How to trade currency is to deal through a broker or dealer who is connected electronically with one of the major Forex markets, New York, London, or Tokyo. The trader picks a currency pair such as the EUR/USD pair. This means trading Euros for American dollars. Other major currencies include the Yen, British Pound, and Swiss franc as well as the Canadian and Australian dollars. These currencies are called the majors. They trade in high volume and high liquidity. The trader will almost always work from a trade station from which he is connected through his broker to one of the markets. This is done via an electronic communications network and allows the Forex trader to buy and sell currencies based upon technical analysis of short term price fluctuations. How to trade currency most successfully requires a thorough knowledge of the fundamentals of each currency that one chooses to trade. This means learning about the economies of each nation, their monetary policy, and any other factors such as local politics that will drive the value of their currency in relation to those of other nations. Once the trader knows the basics of the currencies he wishes to trade he will follow the markets to decide which trading situations looks the most profitable. He will learn how to trade Forex online. How to trade currency most profitably requires being in the right currency pair at the right time. An alternative for how to trade currency is to trade currency options. These work much like stock options in that the trader will purchase the option to buy one currency for another. He purchases this option and will execute it if conditions are profitable. He is under no obligation to make any purchase so he will only lose the price of the premium paid if the currency he wants to buy heads down when he expected it to go up. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oNuJhPYKvq8

Stock Investing Basics: How to Find Great Undervalued Stocks
In this how to tutorial, you will learn about the top 6 criteria for you to consider for finding those undervalued stocks poised to take off. By knowing how to apply these criteria, you will be in a better position to make more money in the stock market. We all would love to get in at the bottom floor of a wonderful upcoming business ready to ride the profit elevator up to new heights. You may be asking yourself: "Where do the best opportunities lie in finding those best-of-breed businesses ready to take off in the markets?" Having a simple set of criteria to help guide you in your decision-making process is critical to consistently picking those winners. Here are the top 6 criteria for you to consider for finding those undervalued stocks poised to explode: 1. Company size: Look for small to mid-cap companies with a market capitalization between $250 million and $1 billion. These emerging companies have the greatest potential for upside growth in terms of market exposure and profitability. The Apple's, Google's and Wal-Mart's of tomorrow all started with humble beginnings. 2. Stability: Look for companies that have a low Beta ratio of less than 1.0. Beta is a measure of the sensitivity of the company's returns compared to market returns. In theory, a stock whose returns vary less than the market's returns has a Beta with a value less than 1.0, thereby being less volatile and potentially risky. 3. Solid Fundamentals: Look for companies that show growth rates in excess of 10% per year consistently over at least a 5-year period for the following: • ROIC - return on investment capital • BVPS - book value per share or equity • EPS - earnings per share • Sales, and • Free Cash Flow The key is to identify those businesses that have consistent year-over-year growth rates. The major stock market websites that post company financials will have the raw data that you need in order to calculate the growth rates. 4. Value: Look for a PEG ratio that is less than 1.0. A lower ratio is better indicating that it is a cheaper and healthier stock than a higher ratio, which is more expensive. PEG is calculated by dividing the P/E ratio by the earnings per share (EPS) in order to better compare companies with different growth rates. 5. Global Exposure: Find out if the business in question earns most of, or a large percentage of, its income from international markets. With America no longer being the most important economic market for businesses in today's global economy, finding a company with international exposure to its products and/ or services is critical. 6. Stock Value vs. Stock Price: Look for businesses where Mr. Market has priced the stock below the fair market value of the business. Ideally, you are looking for a stock price that has a big margin of safety (MOS) price of 30 -50% below its fair market or intrinsic value price. Several subscription websites provide fair value estimates for businesses. However, should you like a simple approach to help you assess the MOS price for a business, please check out the articles on best-of-breed analysis at Stock Investing Simplified. Once you have used the 6 criteria outlined above to identify potential companies, place them on your personal watch list. As the name implies, a watch list is a simple list of potential stocks in which to invest at some point in the future. Now it's time to get up close and personal and to only invest in those businesses that you understand and that you would be willing to monitor on a weekly basis for any changes to the fundamentals, market forces or competition. This simple, step-by-step approach to analyzing stocks should help you identify those emerging companies with the potential of rising to new heights. I encourage you to get started today in finding those great stocks that have the potential to produce consistently high returns for you. Big Business and Ethical Sourcing: A Contradiction in Terms? | 01.03.2011
When businesses form closer relationships with their supply chains it is often presented as a win-win situation - improving conditions and stability for producers, while creating reputational benefits and security of supply for buyers. But can this relationship become too close? Can ethical sourcing create dangers that producers become too reliant on a single buyer? Does it put them at risk of being suddenly cut adrift? Does it also have the effect of undermining the strength of the market in matching supply and demand? At the start of Fair Trade Fortnight, this debate will examine these issues and consider the role of policymakers, businesses, NGOs and consumers to ensure trade works for both producers and buyers. Should we be encouraging businesses to take a greater control of their supply chains and avoid exploitation and environmental damage? Or should we concentrate on providing better information and access to credit to farmers, and let them decide who to supply?

Mail Order Book Theft. You Paid but www.beingaman.com never was delivered
Dr. Dennis W. Neder owner of www.beingaman.com has been running a book backorder scam for almost 3 years now. In my case and when others have ordered the " Being a man in a woman's world 2 " Hard copy book you add this to the cart for 1 item, and check out the beingaman.com web site takes the money and says delivery in 2 days. Then Dr. Dennis W. Neder the Author would contact and say this is on Backorder. And Can I send you the same product in a E-Book a PDF File, and says I am waiting for the cost of ink and paper to come down in price. In my case it was back in 2009 and being now September 2011 now. I paid also postage and handling with my order and tax. I asked for my money back being if Dr. Dennis W. Neder could not come up with the goods since waiting in Feb 2009 ... Apart of the shipping scam he now trys to charge for a PDF file I never ordered that he offered as a sub ... due to a backorder he said in 2009. These are backorder scams, he said he still has not ordered paper and ink in September 2011 almost 3 years later as requested and paid in full. This tells you he has not published in about 3 years. And has made no effort to publish. In my opinion this is stealing people's money with no intension to deliver but still tricks customers out of the money. As I have paid Postage and Tax he has committed fraud and as he has not filled the order when I paid in Feb 2009 this is a ongoing scam. His site says he is selling hard copy books, unless now he changed the wording. These scams of non delivery and offering a free substitute then wanting to charge later if you ask for money back is a Slight of Hand scam that appeals to our greed 1 gifts and 2 for the price of one. It is commonly believed that sleight of hand works because "the hand is quicker than the eye" but this is usually not the case. In addition to manual dexterity, sleight of hand depends on the use of psychology, timing, misdirection, and natural choreography. I strongly ask you not to order or fall for this backorder book fraud and that if he has stolen your money contact the attorney general department and report Dr. Dennis W. Neder's company Remington Publications to the Better Business or fair trading. These thieves taking your money should not be in business committing theft and deceptive methods. Also report this to fraud agencies and scam websites.
