POLITICAL THEORY - Karl Marx

09:28
Karl Marx remains deeply important today not as the man who told us what to replace capitalism with, but as someone who brilliantly pointed out certain of its problems. The School of Life, a pro-Capitalist institution, takes a look. For gifts and more from The School of Life, visit our online shop: https://goo.gl/O1tWri Download our App: https://goo.gl/kj9Vvr FURTHER READING “Most people agree that we need to improve our economic system somehow. It threatens our planet through excessive consumption, distracts us with irrelevant advertising, leaves people hungry and without healthcare, and fuels unnecessary wars. Yet we’re also often keen to dismiss the ideas of its most famous and ambitious critic, Karl Marx. This isn’t very surprising. In practice, his political and economic ideas have been used to design disastrously planned economies and nasty dictatorships. Frankly, the remedies Marx proposed for the ills of the world now sound a bit demented. He thought we should abolish private property. People should not be allowed to own things. At certain moments one can sympathise. But it’s like wanting to ban gossip or forbid watching television. It’s going to war with human behaviour. And Marx believed the world would be put to rights by a dictatorship of the proletariat; which does not mean anything much today. Openly Marxist parties received a total of only 1,685 votes in the 2010 UK general election, out of the nearly 40 million ballots cast…” You can read more on this and many other topics on our blog TheBookofLife.org at this link: https://goo.gl/Rt3zri MORE SCHOOL OF LIFE Our website has classes, articles and products to help you think and grow: https://goo.gl/93tGtZ Watch more films on POLITICAL THEORY in our playlist: http://bit.ly/2dma0Sn Do you speak a different language to English? PHILOSOPHY - Michel Foucault

08:17
Michel Foucault was a philosophical historian who questioned many of our assumptions about how much better the world is today compared with the past. When he looked at the treatment of the mad, at the medical profession and at sexuality, he didn't see the progress that's routinely assumed. If you like our films, take a look at our shop (we ship worldwide): https://goo.gl/9aEZsh FURTHER READING “Michel Foucault (1926-1984) was a French 20th-century philosopher and historian who spent his career forensically critiquing the power of the modern bourgeois capitalist state, including its police, law courts, prisons, doctors and psychiatrists. His goal was to work out nothing less than how power worked and then to change it in the direction of a Marxist-anarchist utopia. Though he spent most of his life in libraries and seminar rooms, he was a committedly revolutionary figure, who met with enormous popularity in elite Parisian intellectual circles (Jean Paul Sartre admired him deeply) and still maintains a wide following among young people studying at university in the prosperous corners of the world…” You can read more on this and many other topics on our blog TheBookofLife.org: https://goo.gl/jtltOU MORE SCHOOL OF LIFE Our website has classes, articles and products to help you think and grow: https://goo.gl/K8d984 More films on PHILOSOPHY in our playlist below: http://bit.ly/TSOLphilosophy Do you speak a different language to English? Class Domination and Ideological Hegemony

10:12
The ruling class has stratified society vertically, and the vast majority of individuals within the American society accept the structured inequality that bars them from mobilizing upwards. The ideologies that capitalists use to legitimize their positions can be found throughout television shows, mainstream news coverage, newspapers and online articles, cartoons, commercials, political rhetoric, and religious sermons, among others, and by analyzing this discourse we gain a better understanding of how they are able to maintain their power.

bell hooks + Jill Soloway - Ending Domination: The Personal is Political I The New School

01:32:38
The early feminist movement was dedicated to the proposition that the personal is political—an insight that has come to be increasingly mocked and ridiculed. In their careers, renowned scholar, poet, and author bell hooks and Emmy-winning television writer and creator of Transparent Jill Soloway have countered this trend, making strong use of the autobiographical to generate critical discourse and awareness of injustice. In this conversation, hooks and Soloway discuss their excavations of the personal and its politics, and how this search strengthens liberation efforts rather than diminish them. About the speakers: For more than three decades, bell hooks (née Gloria Watkins) has been recognized internationally as a scholar, poet, author, and radical thinker. The dozens of books and articles she has published span several genres, including cultural and political analyses and critiques, personal memoirs, poetry collections, and children's books. Her writings cover topics of gender, race, class, spirituality, teaching, and the significance of media in contemporary culture. Jill Soloway is an American comedian, playwright, feminist, Emmy-winning television writer, and award-winning director known for creating, writing, executive producing, and directing the Amazon original series Transparent. How Language Is Used to Deceive You: Politics, Business, World Events, Sports, and Law (1989)

59:17
Doublespeak is language that deliberately disguises, distorts, or reverses the meaning of words. About the book: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0060161345/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=0060161345&linkCode=as2&tag=tra0c7-20&linkId=7bcf9e30b5c34c13270780661a671f65 Doublespeak may take the form of euphemisms (e.g., "downsizing" for layoffs, "servicing the target" for bombing), in which case it is primarily meant to make the truth sound more palatable. It may also refer to intentional ambiguity in language or to actual inversions of meaning (for example, naming a state of war "peace"). In such cases, doublespeak disguises the nature of the truth. Doublespeak is most closely associated with political language. Doublespeak might also have some connections with contemporary theories as well. Edward S. Herman and Noam Chomsky note in their book that Orwellian Doublespeak is an important component of the manipulation of the English language in American media, through a process called 'dichotomization'; a component of media propaganda involving 'deeply embedded double standards in the reporting of news'. For example, the use of state funds by the poor and financially needy is commonly referred to as 'social welfare' or 'handouts', which the 'coddled' poor 'take advantage of'. These terms, however, do not apply to other beneficiaries of government spending such as tax incentives and military spending. William D. Lutz, serves as the third chairman of the Doublespeak Committee since 1975 to the present. In 1989, both his own book Doublespeak and, under his editorship, the committee's third book, Beyond Nineteen Eighty-Four, were published. Lutz was also the former editor of the now defunct Quarterly Review of Doublespeak, which examines ways that jargon has polluted the public vocabulary with phrases, words and usages of words designed to obscure the meaning of plain English. His book, Beyond Nineteen Eighty-Four, consists of 220 pages and eighteen articles contributed by long-time Committee members and others whose body of work has made important contributions to understandings about language, as well as a bibliography of 103 sources on doublespeak. Lutz is one of the main contributors to the committee as well as promoting the term "doublespeak" to a mass audience so as to inform them of the deceptive qualities that doublespeak contains. He mentions: There is more to being an effective consumer of language than just expressing dismay at dangling modifiers, faulty subject and verb agreement, or questionable usage. All who use language should be concerned whether statements and facts agree, whether language is, in Orwell's words 'largely the defense of the indefensible' and whether language 'is designed to make lies sound truthful and murder respectable, and to give an appearance of solidity to pure wind.'" [15] He also mentions that the NCTE Committee on Public Doublespeak and their works with regards to educating the public on doublespeak is responsible for "the rather awesome task of combating the advertisers, the politicians, and the major manipulators of public language in our society." [15] Lutz states that it is important to highlight doublespeak to the public because "language isn't the invention of human beings to lie, deceive, mislead, and manipulate" and the "purpose of language is to communicate the truth and to facilitate social groups getting together". Thus, according to Lutz, doublespeak is a form of language that defeats the purpose of inventing language because doublespeak does not communicate the truth but seeks to do the opposite and the doublespeak committee is tasked with correcting this problem that doublespeak has created in the world of language. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doublespeak

Hobbes and the Person of the State | Professor Quentin Skinner

52:30
Nowadays when we speak about the state we generally use the word simply to refer to an apparatus of government; in common parlance, ‘state’ and ‘government’ have become virtually synonymous terms. My first lecture traces the emergence in early-modern political theory of the strongly contrasting view that the state is the name of a distinct person. Hobbes is seen as the major contributor to this way of thinking about public power. The central section of the lecture analyses his claim that the state is a ‘person by fiction’, as well as examining Pufendorf’s rival but closely associated view that the state ought to be conceived as a moral person. My lecture ends by attempting an assessment of the idea of state personality. Has anything of significance been lost as a result of our abandonment of the belief, central to so much early-modern and Enlightenment discourse, that the state is the name of a person distinct from both government and the governed? Professor Quentin Skinner, Barber Beaumont Professor of the Humanities, Queen Mary University of London, gave the 2015 Agnes Cuming Lectures in the UCD School of Philosophy, University College Dublin, Ireland. Skinner is the author of numerous books and articles on early modern political thought and is a founder of the ‘Cambridge School’ of the history of political thought. He has broad interests in modern intellectual history and has published on a number of philosophical themes including the nature of interpretation and historical explanation, and on several issues in contemporary political theory including the concept of political liberty and the character of the State. About the Agnes Cuming Lectures in Philosophy The UCD School of Philosophy, University College Dublin, has an annual/biannual public lecture series by prominent philosophers made possible by a bequest of Agnes Cuming, one of the first female philosophy graduates of University College Dublin. Ms Agnes Cuming, daughter of a King’s Counsel, was born on 29 September 1890. She graduated from University College Dublin in the autumn of 1910. There were two women in the 1909-1910 Degree class of 24. Her professors would have included Professor Magennis, Professor of Metaphysics; Fr. John Shine, Professor of Logic and Psychology, and Dr M. Cronin, Professor of Ethics and Politics, who were all appointed in 1909. She achieved First Class Honours in her BA Examination and shared first place in the class with Robert L. McKernan. Ms Cuming was awarded the MA in 1911 and the Travelling Studentship in Philosophy in 1912, at the time beating Robert McKernan to the Scholarship. He was awarded a prize of £100. She was the first, and for many years the only woman to have reached Master’s and Travelling Studentship standard in UCD in Philosophy. She attended St Anne’s College, Oxford, and was awarded the BSc after World War I, in 1920. She went on to become the Librarian of University College Hull. Ms Cuming willed one-third of the residue of her estate to be divided equally between St Anne’s College, Oxford and University College Dublin. The interest from this share funds the Agnes Cuming Public Lectures in Philosophy. In recognition of Ms Cuming’s commitment to Philosophy and to University College Dublin, the Philosophy Seminar Room has been renamed the Agnes Cuming Seminar Room. A Game by Any Other Name: Assessing the Conflict in Discourse

14:01
Video games have advanced in leaps and bounds since their humble beginnings and are now an art form. Isn't there a value in understanding what IS a game, when some designers are more interested in making art than designing a game? Let's explore the idea and then look at how the mainstream media has discouraged the discussion of what's "not a game." Authoritarianism 8 of 11 | The Art of Political Persuasion by Robin Koerner

Robin discusses his article “Authoritarians to the Right of Me, Authoritarians to the Left”. The article can be found here https://fee.org/articles/authoritarians-to-the-right-of-me-authoritarians-to-the-left/ Robin Koerner, The Art of Political Persuasion http://robinkoerner.com About the Art of Political Persuasion The Art of Political Persuasion is a unique way for candidates, activists, or anyone engaged in political discourse to attract support for their candidacy, cause of position……and do so without having to make better arguments. In contrast, “The Art of Political Persuasion” takes a revolutionary approach towards political discourse by helping people with opposing points of view understand and negate the underlying forces that keep them from coming and working together on common ground to solve a mutually agreed upon common problem. If you are a candidate, activist or anyone interested political discourse and believe that it’s way past time we all started to act like adults, rather than argumentative children, then subscribe to the channel. This is cutting edge information you won’t find anywhere else………and if you are an activist of any sort, I offer a free report on my website at http://www.robinkoerner.com called “the 10 reasons your arguments fail to win support and what you can do about it right now”. How Comedy Saved Free Speech

13:34
There are a lot of claims of censorship wafting around public discourse, and article after article of think pieces claiming that the right to speak your mind has become embattled. To give this context, let’s talk about a different case of free speech and censorship. A situation where someone faced criminal charges for being offensive in America. This is the story of Lenny Bruce, the stand-up comic that went to bat to fight censorship. Maybe through his story, we can see how to save Freedom of Speech. What is IDENTITY POLITICS? What does IDENTITY POLITICS mean? IDENTITY POLITICS meaning

What is IDENTITY POLITICS? What does IDENTITY POLITICS mean? IDENTITY POLITICS meaning - IDENTITY POLITICS definition - IDENTITY POLITICS explanation. Source: Wikipedia.org article, adapted under https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ license. Identity politics, also called identitarian politics, refers to political positions based on the interests and perspectives of social groups with which people identify. Identity politics includes the ways in which people's politics may be shaped by aspects of their identity through loosely correlated social organizations. Examples include social organizations based on race, gender identity, ethnicity, nationality, sexual orientation, disability, religion, culture, language and dialect. Not all members of any given group are involved in identity politics. The term identity politics came into being during the latter part of the 20th century, during the Civil Rights Era. During this time period, identity politics were used by a minority group to form a coalition with members of the majority. Now the term is popularly used when referring to nationalist movements. The term identity politics has been used in political discourse since at least the 1970s. One aim of identity politics has been for those feeling oppressed to articulate their felt oppression in terms of their own experience by a process of consciousness-raising. For example, in their germinal statement of black feminist identity politics, the Combahee River Collective said that "as children we realized that we were different from boys and that we were treated different—for example, when we were told in the same breath to be quiet both for the sake of being 'ladylike' and to make us less objectionable in the eyes of white people. In the process of consciousness-raising, actually life-sharing, we began to recognize the commonality of our experiences and, from the sharing and growing consciousness, to build a politics that will change our lives and inevitably end our oppression." Identity politics as a mode of organizing is closely connected to the concept that some social groups are oppressed (such as women, ethnic minorities, sexual minorities, etc.); that is, individuals belonging to those groups are by virtue of their identity more vulnerable to forms of oppression such as cultural imperialism, violence, exploitation, marginalization, or powerlessness. Identity politics starts from analyses of oppression to recommend a restructuring of the existing society. Identity politics is a phenomenon that arose first at the radical margins of liberal democratic societies in which human rights are recognized, and the term is not usually used to refer to dissident movements within single-party or authoritarian states. The elements of identity politics can be seen to be present in many of the earliest statements of feminists, ethnic movements, and gay and lesbian liberation. Formally, it may even be taken back to Marx's earliest statements about a class becoming conscious of itself and developing a class identity. Class Identity politics were first described briefly in an article by L. A. Kauffman, who traced its origins to the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC), an organization of the civil rights movements in the USA in the early and mid-1960s. Although SNCC invented many of the fundamental practices, and various black power groups extended them, they apparently found no need to apply a term. Rather, the term emerged when others outside the black freedom movements—particularly, the race- and ethnic-specific women's liberation movements, such as Black feminism—began to adopt the practice in the late 1960s. Traces of identity politics can also be found in the early writings of the modern gay movement such as Dennis Altman's Homosexual: Liberation/Oppression, Jeffrey Week's Coming Out: Homosexual Politics in Britain from the Nineteenth Century to the Present, and Ken Plummer's ed The Making of the Modern Homosexual. One of the older written examples of it can be found in the Combahee River Collective Statement of April 1977, subsequently reprinted in a number of anthologies, and Barbara Smith and the Combahee River Collective have been credited with coining the term; which they defined as "a politics that grew out of our objective material experiences as Black women.

Liberal Justice Sotomayor Breaks Silence On Kavanaugh, Leaves Dems Stunned (VIDEO)

The justice, who was nominated by former President Obama, spoke to CNN’s David Axlerod and said that Justice Kavanaugh is now part of her “family.” “When you’re charged with working together for most of the remainder of your life, you have to create a relationship,” Sotomayor said in an “Axe Files” interview airing Saturday. “The nine of us are now a family and we’re a family with each of us our own burdens and our own obligations to others, but this is our work family, and it’s just as important as our personal family. “We’ve probably spent more time with each other than most justices spend, who have spouses, with their spouses,” she added. Kavanaugh, who has served since being confirmed early last month, had his confirmation thrown into doubt after a tense Senate Judiciary Committee hearing in September in which California professor Christine Blasey Ford alleged the Supreme Court nominee had sexually assaulted her when they were in high school in the 1980s. Kavanaugh denied the allegations against him. Sotomayor said despite the contentious confirmation, she told Kavanaugh that the focus on him will settle on his actions as part of the court. “It was Justice (Clarence) Thomas who tells me that when he first came to the Court, another justice approached him and said, ‘I judge you by what you do here. Welcome.’ And I repeated that story to Justice Kavanaugh when I first greeted him here,” she said. Thomas was accused of sexual harassment after being nominated in 1991 and also narrowly confirmed by the Senate. Sotomayor, who was first confirmed to the court in 2009, also pushed back on the notion that Kavanaugh’s presence cements a conservative tilt on the Court — an institution she said is above “political terms.” “Conservative, liberal, those are political terms,” she said. “Do I suspect that I might be dissenting a bit more? Possibly, but I still have two relatively new colleagues, one very new colleague, Brett Kavanaugh and Neil Gorsuch. And we’ve agreed in quite a few cases, we’ve disagreed in a bunch, But you know, let’s see.” When asked modern political discourse, Sotomayor said too large of an emphasis has been put on differences rather than common “human values.” “We all have families we love, we all care about others, we care about our country, and we care when people are injured,” she told Axelrod. “And unfortunately, the current conversation often forgets that. It forgets our commonalities and focuses on superficial differences whether those are language or how people look or the same God they pray to but in different ways. “Those differences truly are not important,” she added. “What is important is those human values we share and those human feelings that we share. But I worry that we forget about that too often.” Facebook has greatly reduced the distribution of our stories in our readers’ newsfeeds and is instead promoting mainstream media sources. From a lecture given in 2015 by Graham R Gibbs at the University of Huddersfield. This second session examines the ideas behind a Foucauldian Discourse Analysis and draws also on some ideas from Critical Discourse Analysis. The distinctive contributions of Michel Foucault's approach are discussed before some of the key ways of carrying out a Foucauldian analysis are examined. The session ends with a brief discussion of some of the criticisms of both Foucauldian and Psychological discourse analysis. Liberal Nihilism and the Hollowing-Out of Discourse

01:44:15
Being a liberal means that you can't believe in anything strongly enough to actually take it seriously. Modern liberalism's declaration that things like religion, metaphysics or other "comprehensive doctrines" cannot be brought to bear on matters of public concern is bound to produce hollow, unedifying public discourse in which everyone produces bad arguments for their views - assuming that they bother to present any arguments at all. We therefore have liberalism and its Rawslian restrictions on public debate to thank for how nihilistic and empty much political and ethical thought has become. Liberalism is nihilistic. It attempts to replace the comprehensive worldview presented by a religion like Christianity with a void called "reason" and acts surprised when the result is a decline in the quality of thinking and theorizing. This was all made possible by modernity's moving away from the old metaphysics of nature that saw the natural world as tinged with purpose. The modern conception of nature is one of objects simply being acted on by natural forces, with no final causality. This shift has made moral theorizing unavoidably sterile - unless, that is, we do lots of what law professor Steven Smith calls "smuggling." BOOKS AND ARTICLES MENTIONED 1. Bridging the Left/Right Divide - Bret Weinstein

Given the current state of discourse, how is it possible to get those on opposite sides of the political spectrum talking with one another and finding common ground. Bret Weinstein has a suggestion that involves looking at our differences with a new perspective. Is Christianity Good for American Politics?

02:03:13
Today, many argue that religious liberty is under assault while others believe that faith is meant for the private realm and its public expression stands in the way of a secular political discourse. This issue is certainly apparent in the controversy surrounding the HHS bill. This being the case, a debate over the role of Christianity in American politics could not be more pertinent. Susan Jacoby, program director at The Center for Inquiry and author of New York Times bestseller, The Age of American Unreason (2008)and Alger Hiss and The Battle for History (2009), is an independent scholar whose work focuses on American intellectual history. Jacoby has been a contributor for more than 25 years, on topics including law, religion, medicine, aging, women's rights, political dissent in the Soviet Union, and Russian literature, to a wide range of periodicals and newspapers. Her articles and essays have appeared in The New York Times Magazine, Washington Post Book World, Los Angeles Times Book Review, Newsday, Harper's, The Nation, Vogue, The American Prospect, Mother Jones, and the AARP Magazine, among other publications. Dinesh D'souza, recent author of "What's so Great About Christianity?" and president of the King's College, has been called one of the "top young public-policy makers in the country" by Investor's Business Daily. The New York Times Magazine named him one of America's most influential conservative thinkers. D'Souza's articles have appeared in virtually every major magazine and newspaper, including the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, The Atlantic Monthly, Vanity Fair, New Republic, and National Review. He has appeared on numerous television programs, including the Today Show, Nightline, The News Hour, O'Reilly Factor, Moneyline, and Hannity and Colmes.

It all just goes to show how associating exclusively with political sympathizers can backfire. An Invitation to the Intellectual Dark Web

01:25:31
I spoke today with author Gregg Hurwitz (more information about him below). Hurwitz is currently working to rebrand the Democratic party, working to produce an issues-oriented, anti-corruption, practical mainstream narrative and to identify promising Democratic candidates who can hold their own in long form political discussions. This is all in an attempt to end the dangerous polarization and concentration on ever more extreme ideology that seems to be destabilizing political discussion. The video is in large part an invitation to the long-form discussion providers of the so-called Intellectual Dark Web to engage with such candidates, so that the public can see beyond the sound bites and spin and impression management and message crafting that has become an integral but pathological part of our traditional low-bandwidth media communication technology. Let's see if we can find political candidates who can shine in a three hour discussion. We're done with the oversimplifications of the traditional media forms. Background: Gregg Hurwitz is the New York Times, #1 internationally bestselling author of 20 thrillers, including OUT OF THE DARK (2019), and two award-winning thriller novels for teens. His novels have won numerous literary awards, graced top ten lists, and have been published in 30 languages. Gregg has written screenplays for or sold spec scripts to many of the major studios (including THE BOOK OF HENRY), and written, developed, and produced television for various networks. He is also a New York Times Bestselling comic book writer, having penned stories for Marvel (Wolverine, Punisher) and DC (Batman, Penguin). He has published numerous academic articles on Shakespeare, taught fiction writing in the USC English Department, and guest lectured for UCLA, and for Harvard in the United States and internationally. In the course of researching his thrillers, he has sneaked onto demolition ranges with Navy SEALs, swum with sharks in the Galápagos, and gone undercover into mind-control cults. Hurwitz grew up in the Bay Area. While completing a BA from Harvard and a master’s from Trinity College, Oxford in Shakespearean tragedy, he wrote his first novel. He was the undergraduate scholar-athlete of the year at Harvard for his pole-vaulting exploits, and played college soccer in England, where he was a Knox fellow. He has increasingly turned his attention to the political sphere, in an effort to end polarizing discourse: · Rebranding the entire Democratic party · Working with a number of candidates and entities, from senators to the DNC/DCCC/DLCC · Effort to get away from gridlock and into solutions Links relevant to my work: My new book: 12 Rules for Life: An Antidote to Chaos: https://jordanbpeterson.com/12-rules-for-life/ 12 Rules for Life Tour: Dates, Cities and Venues: https://jordanbpeterson.com/events/ My first book: Maps of Meaning: The Architecture of Belief: https://jordanbpeterson.com/maps-of-meaning/ (audio version, now a NY Times Bestseller (audio), available since June 12, 2018: my recording) Dr Jordan B Peterson Website: http://jordanbpeterson.com/ Self Authoring Suite: http://selfauthoring.com/ Understand Myself personality test: http://understandmyself.com/ Blog: https://jordanbpeterson.com/blog/ Podcast: https://jordanbpeterson.com/jordan-b-peterson-podcast/ Reading List: https://jordanbpeterson.com/2017/10/great-books/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/jordanbpeterson Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/jordanbpeterson

Academics expose corruption in Grievance Studies

UPDATE: Peter Boghossian is now under attack from his own colleagues at Portland State University. WATCH: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kG3QYbDeZso Support the feature-length documentary on The Grievance Studies Affair here - https://www.patreon.com/mikenayna The first video in the behind-the-scenes story of how a trio of concerned left-wing academics (James Lindsay, Peter Boghossian and Helen Pluckrose) published seven intentionally absurd papers in leading scholarly journals in what has become known as 'The Grievance Studies Affair'. This series is associated with a feature-length documentary I'm working on. My plan is to play around with some of the footage I gather and upload it here to gauge interest and have a creative outlet while I learn about the complicated subject matter. If You Want To Have Liberty, Have Fewer Arguments and Tell More Stories – A Lesson From History

27:33
Robin Koerner, The Art of Political Persuasion http://robinkoerner.com The Advance of Liberty Depends on Stories, Not Just Arguments If you tell the right story to enough people, you don’t have to argue with them. There are deep reasons why logical arguments change few minds, whereas the right kind of human story can change many more. Most society-scale changes in the direction of liberty have been triggered by the harnessing of the imagination and empathy of a large number of people in response to a) the mass-popularization of b) a “concrete” story about c) (usually) an injustice done to d) specific individuals. This video is based on the article https://fee.org/articles/the-advance-of-liberty-depends-on-stories-not-just-arguments/ About the Art of Political Persuasion The Art of Political Persuasion is a unique way for candidates, activists, or anyone engaged in political discourse to attract support for their candidacy, cause of position……and do so without having to make better arguments. Paddy McQueen gives an introductory talk to Butler's work on feminism, gender, identity and power at Queen's University Belfast. Judith Butler is perhaps one of the most well-known post-structuralist feminist philosophers in the Western world. She is associated with continental feminism, work in queer theory, gender identity, power and ethics, as well as being known for her political activism. Paddy McQueen is (at time of writing) a PhD candidate at Queen's University Belfast in Political Theory and the author of several articles on identity and recognition. For more on his work, check out: -http://www.qub.ac.uk/schools/SchoolofPoliticsInternationalStudiesandPhilosophy/Research/ResearchStudents/McQueen/ -http://paddymcqueen.co.uk/ The talk starts with a short introduction to feminism before turning most of its attention toward Judith Butler's work. For the past forty years Noam Chomsky's writings on politics and language have established him as a preeminent public intellectual and as one of the most original and wide-ranging political and social critics of our time. Among the seminal figures in linguistic theory over the past century, since the 1960s Chomsky has also secured a place as perhaps the leading dissident voice in the United States. In this talk from Google Cambridge in May of 2017 Professor Chomsky discusses wide ranging topics from the development of his personal political views to the control of information and media with Googler Hasan Khalil.

human rights vs citizens rites discourse (FYI) 101

28:42
this is an ecclesiastical (religious & political) view of the sovereign Emperor of Ethiopia's international political position as a universal human rights ambassador for humanity. for this is the divine law that comes from Zion (Empire of Ethiopia) and will not give in, until it bears diplomatic results from the common human being. this international political discourse between universal human rights (diplomatic privileges) under the UDHR, which are secured and protected under international law, and involuntary debtor citizen taxpayer corporate serf status in global commerce, under constitutional (mind & body) debt bondage superimposed through jesuit supremacy (imf globalization policies), which is fraud. for in our wonderful modern world of social democracy (political choices) today, without mutual consent conferred from the voice of the governed peoples in political unity,, then there is no international political legitimacy for global jesuit tyranny (legal inequality), under an unlawul jesuit financial system superimposed by thieves (human rights violators). Deuteronomy 30:15-20, revised in Ethiopian spectacles for real ecclesiastical change (choosing humanity a new global economy) Choose a debt free diplomatic humanitarian Life (living in full equality) over eternal civil death (debtor taxpaying citizen status) 15 “See, I an I have set before you today a debt free diplomatic humanitarian life (living in full equality) and international political prosperity, and civil death (debtor taxpayer victim status) and jesuit financial adversaries (human rights violators); 16 in that I an I command you today to love (trust & obey) the sovereign LORD (political master) your Elect of God the Father Majesty of Ethiopia (UN lawgiver of the 20th century, to ecclesiastically walk in His debt free diplomatic ways and to faithfully keep His human rights commandments (30 articles) and His statutes and His judgments (decision making), that you may live and multiply, and that the sovereign LORD (political master) your sovereign and Elect of God the Father Majesty may diplomatically bless you in the land where you are entering to possess it. 17 “But if your heart turns away from the Emperors UDHR law of equality for all and you will not obey 30 articles, but are drawn away and worship other jesuit gods and service their astronomical national debts that can never be repaid, 18 I an I declare to you today that you shall surely perish under global jesuit imperialism under the papacys dirty feet (corrupt jurisdiction), politically. You will not prolong your days as a corporate victim (debtor taxpaying serf) in the land where you are crossing the Jordan to enter and possess it. 19 “I an I call heaven (EMPIRE OF ETHIOPIA) and earth (193 MEMBER NATION STATES) to diplomatically witness against you today, that I an I have set before you a divine political choice between a debt free diplomatic humanitarian life (living in full equality). and civil death (debtor taxpaying slaves status), the human rights blessing (diplomatic immunity) and the global jesuit supremacy curse (imf globalization policies). So choose a debt free international humanitarian life in order that you may diplomatically live, you and your descendants, 20 by loving the sovereign LORD (political master) your Elect of God the Son to come, by obeying His sovereign voice, and by holding fast to His Imperial Majesty's UDHR principles of fundamental equality for all; for this is your debt free diplomatic humanitarian life and the length of your days, that you may diplomatically live in the land which the sovereign LORD swore to your fathers, (Ethiopian bishops) to Abraham (family head - Emperor of Ethiopia), Father Isaac (Abuna Yesehaq), and modern day Jacob (21st century younger generation, to give them.” rest assured, that just as sure as there is a global financial crisis violating humanity, there is a universal redeemer (Lion of Judah world banker) here on earth (193 member nation states), seeking a diplomatic way to expose this insanity. for the seeds of global financial slavery have created international political mustard seeds (human rights defenders), who are the diplomatic countermeasure to global financial calamity, and unquenchable jesuit greed.
