The tonne of oil equivalent is a unit of energy defined as the amount of energy released by burning one tonne of crude oil. It is approximately 42 gigajoules, although as different crude oils have different calorific values, the exact value is defined by convention; several slightly different definitions exist. The toe is sometimes used for large amounts of energy. Multiples of the toe are used, in particular the megatoe and the gigatoe. A smaller unit of kilogram of oil equivalent is also sometimes used denoting 1/1000 toe. This video is targeted to blind users. RED SIDE SHOP STORE https://goo.gl/hVMWE9 SOURCES: https://tradingeconomics.com/country-list/gold-reserves WIKIPEDIA: A gold reserve was the gold held by a national central bank, intended mainly as a guarantee to redeem promises to pay depositors, note holders (e.g. paper money), or trading peers, during the eras of the gold standard, and also as a store of value, or to support the value of the national currency. The World Gold Council estimates that all the gold ever mined totaled 187,200 metric tons in 2017 but other independent estimates vary by as much as 20%. At a price of US\$1,250 per troy ounce, reached on 16 August 2017, one ton of gold has a value of approximately US\$40.2 million. The total value of all gold ever mined would exceed US\$7.5 trillion at that valuation and using WGC 2017 estimates. Supertankers | The Largest Ship Tankers - Geographic History. "Supertankers" are the largest tankers, including very large crude carriers (VLCC) and ULCCs with capacities over 250,000 DWT. These ships can transport 2,000,000 barrels (320,000 m3) of oil/318,000 metric tons. By way of comparison, the United Kingdom consumed about 1.6 million barrels (250,000 m3) of oil per day in 2009. ULCCs, commissioned in the 1970s, were the largest vessels ever built, but the longest ones have already been scrapped. By 2013 only a few ULCCs remain in service, none of which are more than 400 meters long. Because of their great size, supertankers often can not enter port fully loaded. These ships can take on their cargo at off-shore platforms and single-point moorings. On the other end of the journey, they often pump their cargo off to smaller tankers at designated lightering points off-coast. A supertanker's routes are generally long, requiring it to stay at sea for extended periods, up to and beyond seventy days at a time. Read More: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oil_tanker

Full-length film: http://youtu.be/RejAjfRkVuc The world gets through a lot of fossil fuels: • 7,896.4 million metric tons of coal in 2013 (21.6 million metric tons per day, 250 metric tons per second) • 91,330,895 barrels of oil per day in 2013 (168 m3 per second) • 3,347.63 billion m3 of natural gas in 2013 (9.2 km3 per day, 106,082 m3 per second) This film tries to make those numbers physically meaningful – to make the quantities ‘real’; more than ‘just numbers’. All the graphics in the film are based on real quantities. • The coal we use each day would form a pile 236 metres high and 673 metres across. We could fill a volume the size of the UN Secretariat Building with coal every 17 minutes. • At the rate we use oil, we could fill an Olympic swimming pool every 15 seconds. We could fill a volume the size of the UN Secretariat Building with oil every 30 minutes. • The rate at which we use natural gas is equivalent to gas travelling along a pipe with an internal diameter of 60 metres at hurricane speeds (135 km/h / 84 mph). We could fill a volume the size of the UN Secretariat Building with natural gas in under 3 seconds. We use a cubic kilometre of gas every 2 hours 37 minutes and a cubic mile of the stuff every 10 hours 54 minutes. The world’s use of fossil fuels is increasing, not decreasing. Renewable energy will help, but it cannot keep up with the demand for energy. The International Renewable Energy Agency’s most optimistic road-map suggests that renewables will not displace fossil fuels for decades, which is a problem because we are adding carbon dioxide to the atmosphere at an increasing rate. This film by Carbon Visuals for WBCSD graphically demonstrates how significant fossil fuel use is today and will continue to be for decades to come, and so makes a case for carbon capture and storage. All the quantities represented in the film are 'real'; the film shows the actual volume and rate of emissions, it is not merely indicative. Details, calculations and sources for all the numbers in the film are available in a methodology document: http://www.carbonvisuals.com/media/item/735/559/Methodology-CCS_a_2_degree_solution.pdf The world gets through a lot of fossil fuels: • 7,896.4 million metric tons of coal in 2013 (21.6 million metric tons per day, 250 metric tons per second) • 91,330,895 barrels of oil per day in 2013 (168 m3 per second) • 3,347.63 billion m3 of natural gas in 2013 (9.2 km3 per day, 106,082 m3 per second) This film tries to make those numbers physically meaningful – to make the quantities ‘real’; more than ‘just numbers’. • In 2012 we added over 39 billion metric tons of carbon dioxide to the atmosphere. That’s 1,237 metric tons a second. It is like a ‘bubble’ of carbon dioxide gas 108 metres across entering the atmosphere every second of every day. We could fill a volume the size of the UN Secretariat Building with our carbon dioxide emissions in less than half a second. We could fill it 133 times a minute. The pile of one metric ton spheres in the film, which represents one day’s emissions, is 3.7 km high (2.3 miles) and 7.4 km across (4.6 miles). To keep global warming below 2 °C we can afford to emit no more than 1 trillion metric tons of carbon into the atmosphere (3.66 trillion metric tons of carbon dioxide). 2 °C is a significant figure because if warming is more than this ‘positive feedback’ effects will make it increasingly hard to control the temperature. For instance, beyond 2 °C, there will be considerably less ice on Earth. Because it is white, ice reflects energy from the sun back out to space. If the ice goes, more energy from the sun will be absorbed by the Earth. We have already added more than half the threshold quantity of 1 trillion metric tons of carbon (up to mid-2014, we have emitted about 582 billion metric tons). If carbon dioxide from fossil fuels continues to enter the atmosphere we will reach 2 °C threshold in a few years. The projected emissions illustrated in the film are based on RCP 4.5, which is one of the four ‘Representative Concentration Pathways’ used in the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s Fifth Assessment Report. Carbon capture and storage means we can use the energy of fossil fuels without adding carbon to the atmosphere. Because fossil fuels will remain a significant part of the world’s energy economy for decades to come, carbon capture and storage is an essential part of any plan to keep global warming below 2 °C. RESTRICTIONS: Broadcast: NO USE JAPAN, NO USE TAIWAN Digital: NO USE JAPAN, NO USE TAIWAN BP discovered a billion barrels of oil as well as two new oilfields in the Gulf of Mexico, the company said in a press release on Tuesday. The British multinational oil and gas company found a billion barrels of oil at the offshore Thunder Horse oil field in the Gulf of Mexico using a new seismic imaging technique known as Full Waveform Inversion. Full Waveform Inversion uses advanced algorithms to create improved models of the Earth's subsurface by generating seismic wave simulations and comparing these with existing recorded data, BP explained in a press release in April of 2017. These models are used to create high-quality images of oil and gas reservoirs. The company also announced the approval of Atlantis Phase 3, a US\$1.3 billion project that includes the construction of a new subsea production system located 150 miles south of New Orleans and covering roughly 2 kilometers. According to Tuesday's statement by BP, the company has expanded its production in the Gulf of Mexico by more than 60 percent. It aims to grow its production from 300,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day to 400,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day over the next decade. BP has been the biggest investor in the Deepwater Gulf of Mexico for the past 10 years, the company said. RUNDOWN SHOWS: 1. Representation of Thunder Horse oil field location 2. Denbury is using CO2 Enhanced Oil Recovery (CO2 EOR) to produce more domestic energy and is able to sequester CO2 in the process. CO2 EOR has the potential to store billions of metric tons of CO2 and produce 39 to 48 billion barrels of American oil that are not recoverable today, representing twice the current U.S. proven reserves. This would partially offset oil supplies from foreign countries, which currently represent over one-half of U.S. consumption. As policy makers search for ways to capture and sequester CO2 from industrial sources, it is clear that utilizing depleted American oil fields is the best proven opportunity to safely make carbon capture and sequestration ("CCS") a reality in the near term. In 2006, the U.S. Department of Energy ("DOE") estimated that in the Gulf Coast region (Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana and southeast Texas), originally contained approximately 78.9 billion barrels of oil in place. In the Rocky Mountain region (Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wyoming), it is estimated that the original oil in place was approximately 35.6 billion barrels. Assuming that sufficient supplies of CO2 are captured and delivered to the oil fields in these regions, the DOE estimates that there are up to 7.5 billion barrels of recoverable oil in the Gulf Coast region and up to 3.2 billion barrels of recoverable oil in the Rocky Mountain region that could be recovered through CO2 EOR. SOUNDBITE (English) Vicky Bailey, Assistant US Energy Secretary "The Caspian pipeline consortium will strenghten international energy security. When it reaches capacity, more than one (M) million barrels of oil a day will be added to global supply, the biggest single addition in some 30 years. And it couldn't come at the better time." 10. International dignitaries pose by the oil terminal 12. SOUNDBITE (English) Vicky Bailey, Assistant US Energy Secretary "The trust built over nine years of planning and difficult labour will serve us well. It has already served to build a foundation of cooperation that was there when we needed it, on September 11th. It will serve us well in the future as we look to expanding partnership in the energy field." 13. Audience applauds 14. Terminal control room 15. Operator 16. Control panel 17. Screen 18. Pipe 19. Oil tanker on the horizon with flags ashore STORYLINE: Energy officials from the US, Russia, Kazakstan and Oman joined international oil executives for the official opening of the pipeline connecting Kazakstan's Tengiz oil field with an export terminal in the southern Russian port of Anapa. Tuesday's ceremony to inaugurate the two point 65 (B) billion US dollars pipeline, the largest foreign investment in Russia to date, came amid a slump in world oil prices and demands by the OPEC that producers cut back. US companies have invested more than one (B) billion dollars in the consortium, which is running a one thousand and 580-kilometre (987 miles) pipeline from Tengiz Anapa, some 800 kilometres (500 miles) south of Moscow. The consortium includes the Russian, Kazak and Oman governments, Chevron, Arco, Shell, Mobil and Agip, as well as smaller firms. The Tengiz field is believed to be the world's sixth-largest oil field. The pipeline has an initial capacity of 28 (M) million tons per year (600-thousand barrels a day) and, if upgraded, it will ultimately have an annual capacity of 67 (M) million tons (one and a half (M) million barrels a day). This according to ChevronTexaco, which funded 30 percent of the project and which will be the biggest customer for the pipeline. Oil from other Kazak and Russian fields is also expected to be shipped through the Caspian pipeline. Russia's first deputy energy minister, Ivan Matlashov, said that one-third of Russian oil exports would come through the terminal. The pipeline was originally scheduled to begin full operations in August, but the opening was postponed over customs and oil quality disputes. It started working in October and 300-thousand metric tons (two point two (M) million barrels) have already been loaded onto tankers. A tanker was moored off Anapa during Tuesday's ceremony, but it could not approach the port for loading because of windy weather whipping up high waves that crashed against the shore. US Energy Secretary Spencer Abraham had to cancel his participation in the ceremony because the pilots of his US Air Force plane decided "the weather was not quite appropriate". Russia expects to collect more than 20 (B) billion dollars in taxes over the next four decades from the pipeline. The pipeline is also expected to give Moscow political clout in the strategic and mineral-rich Caspian region. Energy shares are higher in mid-day trading as crude oil futures--which lost momentum yesterday--regain their legs to move off \$91 a barrel. Crude oil for February delivery is trading up \$0.39, or 0.43%, to \$91.39 a barrel. In other energy futures, heating oil is up 0.19% to \$2.52 a gallon while natural gas rose 2.75%, to \$4.22 per million British thermal units. The U.S Dollar Index (DXY) is down 0.15% to \$80.24. In sector news, shares of China Petroleum & Chemical Corp. (SNP) are down 2% at mid-day after it received state approval to expand its Yangzi plant in eastern China, Bloomberg reported, citing two refinery officials. The approval comes in order for the refiner to meet local fuel demand. The refiner, also known as Sinopec, is looking to raise the plant's annual oil processing capacity to 13 million metric tons a year. Sinopec shares are down 2.04%, or \$1.92, to \$92.38.

Every day, the world burns 88 million barrels of oil. If all that oil were a river, it would look like Iceland’s famous Dettifoss. Throw in all the coal and natural gas we use and we burn almost twice again as much. And all of it gets turned into carbon dioxide that goes into our atmosphere and oceans: Together, it's equivalent to 37 billion metric tons of CO2 per year 1200 tons per second. That’s like vaporizing a World War II-era destroyer every second of every day of every year. Want to do something about climate change? An Iranian official says available evidence indicates that all crew members on board an Iranian oil tanker that has been burning for a week near China’s eastern coast died soon after it collided with another vessel and a powerful blast ensued. Iranian oil tanker Sanchi caught fire last Saturday night after it collided with the CF Crystal, a Hong Kong-registered bulk freighter carrying wheat from the US, about 160 nautical miles east of the Yangtze estuary. It has been burning ever since despite international rescue efforts. Those efforts have been hampered because of the scale of the fire and heat. The tanker was carrying 136,000 metric tons (nearly one million barrels) of condensate, a type of ultra-light oil, which kept on exploding. Thirty two crew members were also on board, comprising 30 Iranians and two Bangladeshis. Biggest Oil & Gas Project: The RAPID Pengerang, Johor - progress as 20 April 2018 About RAPID Project: RAPID: Refinery and petrochemical integrated development project. Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS), Malaysia’s national oil and gas company, is developing the \$27 billion Pengerang Integrated Complex (PIC) in Johor, Malaysia – one of the largest of the kind in the world constructed at a single time. At the heart of PIC is the Refinery and Petrochemical Integrated Development (RAPID) project with a 300,000 barrels-per-day (BPD) refinery and a petrochemical complex with a combined 3.609 million metric tons-per-year production capacity. Associated PIC facilities include a 1,220 megawatt cogeneration plant, 3.5 million metric tons-per-year regasification terminal, deep water terminal, air separation unit and raw water supply. Fluor, in a joint venture with Technip, is performing engineering, procurement, construction management and commissioning of the Utilities, Interconnecting and Offsites (UIO). The Pengerang Integrated Complex is the largest project ever undertaken by PETRONAS and the largest single construction project in the country of Malaysia. It will occupy an area of approximately 6,242 acres and require an estimated 70,000 craft workers at peak. The various process units are being executed by numerous contractors based in Malaysia, Taiwan, China, Japan, India, South Korea, Spain and Italy with a workforce originating from over 40 nations.
