JavaScript Tutorial - TypeError and ReferenceError issues with object

You can access any undefined property of object and return value will be undefined. JavaScript doesn't give any error when you try to access undefined property name. Property on null or undefined is not possible. var obj = {x:1,y:2}; obj.x; //1 obj.z; //undefined obj.z.x; //TypeError var n = null; n.prop=5; //TypeError if variable y is not declared. y.x; //reference error --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/pages/WebTunings/339234242822202 Recommended JavaScript Book: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0596805527/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=0596805527&linkCode=as2&tag=webtuningscom-20 Code snippets: https://github.com/webtunings

addeventlistener and removeeventlistener in JavaScript

Sytnax for assigning event handler using addEventListener() method element.addEventListener(event, handler, phase) Sytnax for removing event handler using removeEventListener() method element.removeEventListener(event, handler, phase) Please note : The third parameter phase is usually set to false as it is not used. Example : In this example, we are passing values for all the 3 parameters including phase. [input type="button" value="Click me" id="btn"/] [script type="text/javascript"] btn.addEventListener("mouseover", changeColorOnMouseOver, false); btn.addEventListener("mouseout", changeColorOnMouseOut, false); function changeColorOnMouseOver() { this.style.background = 'red'; this.style.color = 'yellow'; } function changeColorOnMouseOut() { this.style.background = 'black'; this.style.color = 'white'; } [/script] Since the third parameter "phase" is optional you can omit it if you wish. btn.addEventListener("mouseover", changeColorOnMouseOver); btn.addEventListener("mouseout", changeColorOnMouseOut); Example : This example demonstrates removing event handlers. [input type="button" value="Click me" id="btn"/] [input type="button" value="Remove Event Handlers" onclick="removeEventHandlers()" /] [script type="text/javascript"] btn.addEventListener("mouseover", changeColorOnMouseOver); btn.addEventListener("mouseout", changeColorOnMouseOut); function changeColorOnMouseOver() { this.style.background = 'red'; this.style.color = 'yellow'; } function changeColorOnMouseOut() { this.style.background = 'black'; this.style.color = 'white'; } function removeEventHandlers() { btn.removeEventListener("mouseover", changeColorOnMouseOver); btn.removeEventListener("mouseout", changeColorOnMouseOut); } [/script] Using this approach you can assign more than one event handler method to a given event. The order in which handler methods are executed is not defined. In this example, 2 event handler methods (clickHandler1 & clickHandler3) are assigned to click event of the button control. When you click the button both the handler methods are executed. [input type="button" value="Click me" id="btn"/] [script type="text/javascript"] btn.addEventListener("click", clickHandler1); btn.addEventListener("click", clickHandler2); function clickHandler1() { alert("Handler 1"); } function clickHandler2() { alert("Handler 2"); } [/script] attachEvent() and detachEvent() methods only work in Internet Explorer 8 and earlier versions. Sytnax for assigning event handler using attachEvent() method element.attachEvent( "on"+event, handler) Sytnax for removing event handler using detachEvent() method element.detachEvent( "on"+event, handler) Example : This example will only work in Internet Explorer 8 and earlier versions. [input type="button" value="Click me" id="btn"/] [script type="text/javascript"] btn.attachEvent("onclick", clickEventHandler); function clickEventHandler() { alert("Click Handler"); } [/script] Cross browser solution : For the above example to work in all browsers, modify the script as shown below. [input type="button" value="Click me" id="btn"/] [script type="text/javascript"] if (btn.addEventListener) { btn.addEventListener("click", clickEventHandler); } else { btn.attachEvent("onclick", clickEventHandler); } function clickEventHandler() { alert("Click Handler"); } [/script]

[C#] Null Reference & Reference Types in C# | Plus Nullable Data Types & The NullReferenceException

10:14
Today you'll learn all about the Null literal and Null reference in C# We'll take a look at what a reference type is and find out what references are exactly. This is the standard Microsoft docs definition Ace. We also have a brief look at the differences between reference types and value types Then I'll explain what the 'null' literal is and discuss the 'null' reference. This features a look at the Null Reference Exception (NullReferenceException), an error you will see throughout your programming life Ace After that we'll see what a 'null-coalescing operator' (??) is. This is similar to the ternary operators we have seen before Ace, and I'll give you a quick explanation of them And finally we'll touch upon Nullable types. Here I'll give you the Microsoft docs explanation and show you examples with the 'int?' type. The Nullable type uses generics Ace, but we won't be covering those in this video. I'll also show you the 'HasValue' and 'Value' property of the type, and I'll also show you the “InvalidOperationException: Nullable object must have a value”. As always Ace, I want to thank you so much for your continued support, with your comments, ratings and subscriptions. It really means a lot to me and keeps me motivated to create these videos for you. C# Beginner to advanced - Lesson 68 - Nullable Types

08:08
Nullable Types in C#: In C# Data types are divided in to 2 categories : Value types : includes int, float, double, enums etc.. Reference types : Interface, Class, String, arrays, Delegate etc. By default : Value types: are non Nullable. Reference types: are Nullable. How to make value types Nullable : Example : int i = 0 ; // default value in value types is zero. i is non Nullable . i cannot be set to null i = null ; // will generate a compile time error To make value type Nullable , we have to use “?”. int? j = 0 ; // now j can be nullable int. j = null ; // this works now. ankpro ankpro training Asp.net MVC C# C sharp Bangalore Rajajinagar Selenium Coded UI Mobile automation testing Mobile testing JQuery JavaScript .Net Components of the .Net framework Hello World Literal Keywords Variable Data types Operators Branching Loops Arrays ArrayList Strings String Builder Structures Enums Functions Classes Inheritance Polymorphism Properties Indexers Events Nested Classes Delegates Anonymous methods Labda expressions Abstract classes Exception Handling Linq Interfaces Extension methods Anonymous types Generics Collections Garbage Collection Reflection Attributes Input and output statements Type casting Partial Methods Partial Classes Boxing and Unboxing Var vs Dynamic vs Object using Static. 12 Undefined and referenceError - JavaScript Tutorial 2018

05:37
Full #Javascript #tutorial for #beginners : http://bizanosa.com/js Learn HTML, CSS and JavaScript http://bizanosa.com/sp/learn-html-css-javascript/ JavaScript Tutorial 2018 12 Undefined and referenceError - JavaScript for Beginners. This is a Javascript tutorial from scratch for any beginner. Use the above link to watch the full JS video tutorial.. Next Video: https://youtu.be/d-wlzviLxes Previous Video: https://youtu.be/Y25cVYyiG4k Hey, and welcome back. So an undefined variable is one whereby you have the variable, you have declared the variable, but you haven't given it a value. You have not initialized the value of the variable. And then, a reference error, this is just calling for a variable that does not exist. So let's take a look at some examples with the ‘var’ keyword and the ‘let’ keyword. So if I come back to Firefox, I will open Scratchpad and you can open Scratchpad by Shift+F4 on your keyboard. So the first thing I want to do, let me declare a variable, variable ‘x’ and then alert the value of ‘x’. So this, let me just run it and you will see what it will tell me. So if I run this, you see it gives a value of ‘undefined’. So we have the variable, it has been declared but we have not initialized the value. So the next thing again or in this case you can see that the variable was declared first before we tried to use it. So let me try to use the variable before declaring the value, before declaring the variable. So if I run this, it'll give us undefined. So what's happening here is something called Variable Hoisting. So in JavaScript a variable will get hoisted the same way you will hoist a flag. That's basically raising it to the top. So it’ll get hoisted. We’re going to cover hoisting later on. So just keep that in mind. So if I undo this and now let's look at ‘reference error’. Now a reference error we said, trying to call a variable that does not exist. So if I, if I tried to call ‘y’, alert(y) and run this, you’ll see we’ll get this error. So we get an ‘Exception: ReferenceError’. So if you try to access a variable that does not exist, a variable that has not been defined yet, you’ll get a reference error. And now I want to use ‘let’. So let me see if I use let x; and then alert(x); what will happen. So if I run this, it'll give us a syntax error. Okay, this is the same thing we experience before. So let me use a different variable. Let me use ‘z’ and then alert(z). And then we run this, it'll give us ‘undefined’. So you remember in the other video, in the other example just before this, we were able to put alert before ‘let’ and we got, we got a value of ‘undefined’. What happens if we try to do the same with a variable that has been declared with ‘let’. So if you try to run this, it'll give you, okay let me use a different variable first of all. Let me say ‘a’, ‘a’. So alert(a); and then we try to declare ‘a’ with ‘let’ before we try to call it. So if I run this, it gives us a reference error unlike for ‘var’. If you were to use ‘var’, if you were to use ‘var’ here, this variable would get hoisted to the top. So if you don't want your variables to get hoisted, you will use the ‘let’ keyword. So to hoist, basically we’ll define this variable at the top of the code. All variables that are declared with ‘var’ or without the ‘var’ keyword, they’re always elevated to the top. So that’s what’s happening, what's happening in here. If you use ‘let’, it will not be elevated to the top. We’re going to cover variable hosting later on. So in this video, we've taken a look at ‘undefined’ and ‘reference error’ whereby, ‘undefined’ basically means the variable is there, yes. It has been defined but it has not been, it has not been given an initialization. It has not been given a value. And then for reference error, that’s a variable that does not exist and if you try to call it, it cannot be found in the system, in the memory. So let's continue in the next video. ASP NET control client id in JavaScript

12:14
Link for all dot net and sql server video tutorial playlists http://www.youtube.com/user/kudvenkat/playlists Link for slides, code samples and text version of the video http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2015/03/aspnet-control-client-id-in-javascript.html In this video we will discuss when to use ASP.NET control's ClientID instead of ID in JavaScript. Every ASP.NET server side control has ID property. At runtime the ID property is converted to id attribute and the resulting HTML is sent to the client browser. For example, we have an ASP.NET TextBox control with ID="TextBox1" on the page. [asp:TextBox ID="TextBox1" runat="server"][/asp:TextBox] When the webform is rendered, it would produce the following HTML [input name="TextBox1" type="text" id="TextBox1" /] Notice that the id attribute value in the generated HTML is same as the ID property value. An aspx page with the following HTML and JavaScript works as expected. When the page is rendered keyboard focus is set to TextBox1 control. [asp:TextBox ID="TextBox1" runat="server"] [/asp:TextBox] [script type="text/javascript"] document.getElementById('TextBox1').focus(); [/script] What if you have a master page In realworld, most asp.net web applications have master pages. If you have a master page and if the control is present inside a content control, the generated ID attribute value of the control will be different from ID property value 1. Add a master page to your project. Name it MyMaster.master. 2. Right click on the master page, and select "Add Content Page" from the context menu. 3. In the content page you just added, copy and paste the following HTML and JavaScript in content control with ID="Content2" [asp:TextBox ID="TextBox1" runat="server"][/asp:TextBox] [script type="text/javascript"] document.getElementById('TextBox1').focus(); [/script] When you view the content page in the browser, you will get the following JavaScript error Error: Unable to get property 'focus' of undefined or null reference Why is the JavaScript code not able to find textbox with id="TextBox1" This is because at runtime, ASP.NET has generated a different id attribute value. To see the generated id attribute value, view the page source in the browser. [input name="ctl00$ContentPlaceHolder1$TextBox1" type="text" id="ContentPlaceHolder1_TextBox1" /] [script type="text/javascript"] document.getElementById('TextBox1').focus(); [/script] If the asp.net control is present inside another container control, the generated id attribute value will be different. Here are a few examples of container controls Content control UserControl GridView There are several ways we can make this work 1. Use the computed id attribute value in the script as shown below. The downside of this approach is that, if someone changes the ContentPlaceHolder ID in the master page, your script will break again. [asp:TextBox ID="TextBox1" runat="server"][/asp:TextBox] [script type="text/javascript"] document.getElementById('ContentPlaceHolder1_TextBox1').focus(); [/script] 2. Set ClientIDMode="Static" on the TextBox control. This will ensure that the generated id attribute value matches the server side ID property. With this approach you will have to make sure that no other control on the web page has the same ID. [asp:TextBox ID="TextBox1" ClientIDMode="Static" runat="server"] [/asp:TextBox] [script type="text/javascript"] document.getElementById('TextBox1').focus(); [/script] 3. Use ClientID property of the server control in your script. [asp:TextBox ID="TextBox1" runat="server"][/asp:TextBox] [script type="text/javascript"] document.getElementById('[%=TextBox1.ClientID%]').focus(); [/script] What if the TextBox is present in the MasterPage If the TextBox is present in the MasterPage and not in the Content page, then the generated ID attribute value of the control will be the same as ID property. So in this case you can use document.getElementById('TextBox1') Summary : If the ASP.NET control is not present inside any other container control, then the generated ID attribute value of the control will be the same as ID property. So in this case you can use document.getElementById('TextBox1') If the ASP.NET control is present inside any other container control, then the generated ID attribute value of the control will be different from ID property value. So in this case you have to use document.getElementById('[%=TextBox1.ClientID%]')

Link for all dot net and sql server video tutorial playlists https://www.youtube.com/user/kudvenkat/playlists?sort=dd&view=1 Link for slides, code samples and text version of the video http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2015/04/convert-json-string-to-net-object.html In this video we will discuss 1. How to convert .NET object to JSON string 2. How to convert a JSON string to .NET object We will be using the following Employee class public class Employee { public string firstName { get; set; } public string lastName { get; set; } public string gender { get; set; } public int salary { get; set; } } Replace < with LESSTHAN symbol and > with GREATERTHAN symbol The following example converts List<Employee> objects to a JSON string. Serialize() method of JavaScriptSerializer class converts a .NET object to a JSON string. JavaScriptSerializer class is present in System.Web.Script.Serialization namespace. using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Web.Script.Serialization; namespace Demo { public partial class WebForm1 : System.Web.UI.Page { protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { Employee employee1 = new Employee { firstName = "Todd", lastName = "Grover", gender = "Male", salary = 50000 }; Employee employee2 = new Employee { firstName = "Sara", lastName = "Baker", gender = "Female", salary = 40000 }; List<Employee> listEmployee = new List<Employee>(); listEmployee.Add(employee1); listEmployee.Add(employee2); JavaScriptSerializer javaScriptSerializer = new JavaScriptSerializer(); string JSONString = javaScriptSerializer.Serialize(listEmployee); Response.Write(JSONString); } } } Output : [{"firstName":"Todd","lastName":"Grover","gender":"Male","salary":50000},{"firstName":"Sara","lastName":"Baker","gender":"Female","salary":40000}] The following example converts a JSON string to List<Employee> objects. Deserialize() method of JavaScriptSerializer class converts a JSON string to List<Employee> objects. string jsonString = "[{\"firstName\":\"Todd\",\"lastName\":\"Grover\",\"gender\":\"Male\",\"salary\":50000},{\"firstName\":\"Sara\",\"lastName\":\"Baker\",\"gender\":\"Female\",\"salary\":40000}]"; JavaScriptSerializer javaScriptSerializer = new JavaScriptSerializer(); List<Employee> employees = (List<Employee>)javaScriptSerializer.Deserialize(jsonString, typeof(List<Employee>)); foreach(Employee employee in employees) { Response.Write("First Name = " + employee.firstName + "<br/>"); Response.Write("Last Name = " + employee.lastName + "<br/>"); Response.Write("Gender = " + employee.gender + "<br/>"); Response.Write("Salary = " + employee.salary + "<br/><br/>"); }

Please watch Part 34 before proceeding. To have the "IT" department selected, when the departments are loaded from tblDepartment table, use the following overloaded constructor of "SelectList" class. Notice that we are passing a value of "1" for "selectedValue" parameter. ViewBag.Departments = new SelectList(db.Departments, "Id", "Name", "1"); If you run the application at this point, "IT" department will be selected, when the dropdownlist is rendered. The downside of hardcoding the "selectedValue" in code is that, application code needs to be modified, if we want "HR" department to be selected instead of "IT". Let's now discuss, the steps required to drive the selection of an item in the dropdownlist using a column in tblDepartment table. Step 1: Add "IsSelected" bit column to tblDepartment table ALTER TABLE tblDepartment ADD IsSelected BIT Step 2: At this point, this column will be null for all the rows in tblDepartment table. If we want IT department to be selected by default when the dropdownlist is loaded, set "IsSelected=1" for the "IT" department row. Update tblDepartment Set IsSelected = 1 Where Id = 2 Step 3: Refresh ADO.NET Entity Data Model Step 4: Finally, make the following changes to the "Index()" action method in "HomeController" class. public ActionResult Index() { SampleDBContext db = new SampleDBContext(); List[SelectListItem] selectListItems = new List[SelectListItem](); foreach (Department department in db.Departments) { SelectListItem selectListItem = new SelectListItem { Text = department.Name, Value = department.Id.ToString(), Selected = department.IsSelected.HasValue ? department.IsSelected.Value : false }; selectListItems.Add(selectListItem); } ViewBag.Departments = selectListItems; return View(); } Run the application and notice that, "IT" department is selected, when the dropdownlist is loaded. If you now want "HR" department to be selected, instead of "IT", set "IsSelected=1" for "HR" department and "IsSelected=0" for "IT" department. Update tblDepartment Set IsSelected = 1 Where Id = 2 Update tblDepartment Set IsSelected = 0 Where Id = 1

With a single line of code you can these transformations without worrying about the exact details or changes in the data models. Gson does everything for you. Gson works either on Android or any Java project. The example project we're going to work in will always be in Java, but it doesn't mean you can't use on Android. It works on both platforms the same way. Here we have our Java example project. I've also already added the gradle dependency here. If you want to use Gson in your project you just simply add this line to your gradle build. The UserSimple class has four properties. It has two strings: the name and the email. It has an integer value: the age, so in sense of 27, and it has a boolean value isDeveloper, which is true or false. For everyone who didn't work with JSON before, let's create a quick JSON object, which is appropriate for this class. JSON objects are alway indicated by the curly brackets {}. This would be an appropriate JSON representation of one of these objects. When we want to transform from a Java object, we need to have that Java objects. Let's use the same value we've just used before: Norman, my email, 27, and true. How do we create a JSON out of this [Java] object? We need a Gson instance. What we can now call on this Gson instance is toJson(). The parameter for the toJson() is simply the object we've just created. If you make this to a String we've this JSON object here. Actually it's a String object, which contains a JSON. We have a JSON result. As you can see we've added whitespaces and line breaks to make it look a little nicer, so we humans can read it. Gson actually, by default, makes it as small as possible. So no whitespaces, no line breaks. If you format this the same way, you'll see it's the exact same result. The values are the same, the property keys are the same, everything is identical. That with just one line of code, fantastic! Let's do the other direction, when we have a JSON and want to make Java objects out of it. This process is called deserialization. The process is fairly similar. We take a Gson instance and on the Gson instance, we call fromJson(). We can pass a string so we'll just pass the userJson string. Here we have a second parameter. As you can see when you look at the JSON objects they're as minimal as possible by just stating the values. You need to know what kind of object is incoming. Here we would say this is of the type UserSimple.class. Now Gson can tell, you have this incoming JSON and we're going to map it to this UserSimple class and can set the properties correctly. Let's make a user object out of and run the same thing. What we would expect that the email, the [is]Developer, the name are all the same, but the age is 26 now. As you can see everything worked, we've the name correctly, we've the email correctly, the age is 26 because the JSON says 26, and we have the isDeveloper, which is true. What you've seen in this short example is how you can use Gson to transform automatically from JSON to Java objects and the other way around. Obviously, there is a lot more to explore. In the next video, we'll look at how you can map nested objects with Gson.

Script: http://www.developphp.com/video/JavaScript/setAttribute-removeAttribute-Methods-Tutorial Learn to apply the setAttribute and removeAttribute methods of Javascript. Since Javascript has become a necessary running component of the web and HTML5 relies heavily upon it we can lean on it more and more to reduce our HTML markup cosiderably much the same way we ruduce our HTML markup by separating out the CSS styling from it. There are also times when in mid flow while a user is using your application, you may have to set or remove an HTML attribute from a tag at runtime. Which makes this a necessary set of methods for Javascript application authors to know. This tutorial is for people that have a good understanding and working knowledge of HTML attributes, and they wish to enhance their Javascript skills in regards to HTML5 dynamic attribute handling. THis also applies to HTML4 attributes. If you are not aware of all of the HTML and HTML5 attributes, web search a list of them.

Monads and Gonads

49:48
Google Tech Talk January 15, 2013 (more info below) Presented by Douglas Crockford ABSTRACT The wonders of monads are finally revealed without resorting to Category Theory or Haskell. It turns out that monads are trivially expressed in JavaScript, and are one of the key enablers of Ajax. Monads are amazing. They are simple things, almost trivially implemented, with enormous power to manage complexity. But understanding them is surprisingly difficult, and most people, once they have that ah-ha moment, seem to lose the ability to explain them to others.

21- Types of Attributes In Entity Relationship Data Model In DBMS In HINDI

06:52
Types of Attributes In Entity Relationship Data Model In DBMS In HINDI : Single valued Attributes : An attribute, that has a single value for a particular entity. For example, age of a employee entity. Multi valued Attributes : An attributes that may have multiple values for the same entity. For example colors of a car entity. Compound /Composite Attribute : Attribute can be subdivided into two or more other Attribute. For Example, Name can be divided into First name, Middle name and Last name. Simple/Atomic Attributes : The attributes which cannot be divided into smaller sub parts are called simple or atomic attributes. For example, age of employee entity Stored Attribute : An attribute, which cannot be derived from other attribute, is known as stored attribute. For example, BirthDate of employee. Derived Attribute : Attributes derived from other stored attribute. For example age from Date of Birth and Today’s date. Complex Attributes : If an attribute of an entity, is built using composite and multi valued attributes, then these attributes are called complex attributes. For example, a person can have more than one residence and each residence can have multiple phones, an addressphone for a person entity can be specified as – {Addressphone (phone {(Area Code, Phone Number)}, Address(Sector Address (Sector Number,House Number), City, State, Pin))} Here {} are used to enclose multivalued attributes and () are used to enclose composite attributes with comma separating individual attributes. Key Attribute : represents primary key. (main characteristics of an entity). It is an attribute, that has distinct value for each entity/element in an entity set. For example, Roll number in a Student Entity Type. Non Key Attributes : These are attributes other than candidate key attributes in a table. For example Firstname is a non key attribute as it does not represent the main characteristics of the entity. Required Attribute : A required attribute is an attribute that must have a data value. These attributes are required because they describe what is important in the entity. For example, In a STUDENT entity, firstname and lastname is a required attribute. Optional Attribute/Null Value Attribute – An optional attribute may not have a value in it and can be left blank. For example, In a STUDENT entity, Middlename or email address is an optional attribute. as some students may not have middlename or email address. JavaScript: The Good Parts

01:03:48
Google Tech Talks Web Exponents presented by Doug Crockford February 27, 2009 blog post: http://google-code-updates.blogspot.com/2009/03/doug-crockford-javascript-good-parts.html JavaScript is a language with more than its share of bad parts. It went from non-existence to global adoption in an alarmingly short period of time. It never had an interval in the lab when it could be tried out and polished. JavaScript has some extraordinarily good parts. In JavaScript there is a beautiful, highly expressive language that is buried under a steaming pile of good intentions and blunders. The best nature of JavaScript was so effectively hidden that for many years the prevailing opinion of JavaScript was that it was an unsightly, incompetent abomination. This session will expose the goodness in JavaScript, an outstanding dynamic programming language. Within the language is an elegant subset that is vastly superior to the language as a whole, being more reliable, readable and maintainable. Speaker: Douglas Crockford Douglas Crockford is a product of our public education system. A registered voter, he owns his own car. He has developed office automation systems. He did research in games and music at Atari. He was Director of Technology at Lucasfilm. He was Director of New Media at Paramount. He was the founder and CEO of Electric Communities/Communities.com. He was founder and CTO of State Software, where he discovered JSON. He is interested in Blissymbolics, a graphical, symbolic language. He is developing a secure programming language. He is now an architect at Yahoo! and the world's foremost living authority on JavaScript.

Node.js: JavaScript on the Server

59:59
Google Tech Talk July 28, 2010 ABSTRACT Presented by Ryan Dahl, the creator of the node.JS open source project. It is well known that event loops rather than threads are required for high-performance servers. Javascript is a language unencumbered of threads and designed specifically to be used with synchronous evented I/O, making it an attractive means of programming server software. Node.js ties together the V8 Javascript compiler with an event loop, a thread pool for making blocking system calls, and a carefully designed HTTP parser to provide a browser-like interface to creating fast server-side software. This talk will explain Node's design and how to get started with it.
