Why did you choose #HR as your career? I liked to be a part of the recruitment team which can identify right people and put them into right places. An employment into recruitment slowly developed into a full fledged HR profession. The role of a human resource manager needs the person to connect with others on a human level and help them meet their aspirations while following the company's policies, structure and rules. If you want to get your dream job, it’s crucially important to make the best possible first impression on the recruiter, and everything, including your style, means a lot. There are five vital things you should know that hiring professionals use to form their opinions about you and decide if you will fit into the corporate culture and get the job or not. Sherry Maysonave, head of Empowerment Enterprises, an image consulting firm based in Austin, Texas, says that the first impression happens in less than 30 seconds and it’s based entirely on your attire. Using the color of your clothes, you can influence other people however you want. Pastel colors in clothes and makeup can help you win other people’s trust. The most important thing is not to overdo it. Blue is probably the best color choice for a job interview, unless you’re aiming for a creative job. The color red represents the life force and the inclination to be successful and efficient. Business suits are not always the best choice for a job interview because the impression you may give the employer is that you are “overqualified.” A tasteful statement dress that doesn’t reveal your neckline and ends around 1 inch above the very top of your knee will do just fine. Your attire should be as close to the company dress code as possible. People are more eager to accept other people who are like them, so the more you look like the other employees, the easier it is for an HR manager to imagine you working with them. Music: https://www.youtube.com/audiolibrary/music TIMESTAMPS What the colors of your clothes say about you 0:33 What the style of your clothes says about you 3:21 What your brands say about you 5:07 Illustrative details 5:47 How well can you fit into the corporate culture 6:52 SUMMARY -Blue is probably the best color choice for a job interview. If you choose clothes with contrasting colors, you could make a powerful and dominant impression. The worst color choice for a job interview, according to studies and opinions of specialists, is orange — it’s often associated with something unprofessional. -A business quit is the perfect choice if a manager is hiring for a senior-level position, a flower print dress won’t do in this case. But if you are looking for a job teaching children or a creative job, this type of attire is not just appropriate, but also preferable. -It’s better to impress your prospective employee with your professional achievements and attitude to work than with luxury brand logos. -Bad manicure, old clothes, and other little flaws, can make a very negative impression. Wear small and elegant pieces of jewelry like small earrings, bracelets, and watches. Your bag should have a clear shape. -Use social media to find out all about the company dress code and try to look like the other employees at the interview. The impact of human resource management (HRM) policies and practices on firm performance is an important topic in the fields of human resource management, industrial relations, and industrial and organizational psychology (Boudreau, 1991; Jones & Wright, 1992; Kleiner, 1990). An increasing body of work contains the argument that the use of High Performance Work Practices, including comprehensive employee recruitment and selection procedures, incentive compensation and performance management systems, and extensive employee involvement and training, can improve the knowledge, skills, and abilities of a firm's current and potential employees, increase their motivation, reduce shirking, and enhance retention of quality employees while encouraging nonperformers to leave the firm (Jones & Wright, 1992; U.S. Department of Labor, 1993).

Hans goes behind the scenes to find out what being a Human Resource Officer entails. Check out more information about a career in Human Resources here: https://studentedge.org/career-life/find-a-career/human-resources-officer Want to see more career videos from Student Edge? ↓ Click here http://s-edg.com/careervideos G'day, Hans here. Now look there are two types of people in this world, those that organize things and the rest of us are just kind of do what they say but if you think you're good with people and you like organizing things maybe human resources could be a career for you. We're here at the Department of Mines to find out what it's all about. You hear the term human resources all the time but it's a pretty obscure and confusing job title. All i know is that it involves dealing with lots of people which is why I'm here at one of the biggest people machines in WA, the Department of Mines and Petroleum to find out exactly what a human resources officer does. Great to meet you Alyce. Well let's start with everything, I need to know if you're working in Human Resources what do you do? So pretty much we work with the employees right through from application to retirement and that could be anything from looking after their safety to training to providing wellness programs or diversity events. So you follow someone's career basically from the beginning right through the end. Yeah while they're in that specific organization. Sure and ok well let's start at the beginning how you came to be in the job. What was your particular path? Where did you study how are you here today? I studied the ECU I studied a bachelor of business and I did a major in human resource management and from that I engaged in lots of different work experience, internship placements I put my name on the templates here at this department and they asked me to come back and work on my initial project. Okay, talk me through a day a typical day of yours when you turn up what do you get up to? First thing I do is look at my emails to make sure there's no employees that are concerned about any issues. That's the first thing you need to get to you need to reply to them quickly. I also because I'm the wellness coordinator I do a lot of events and presentations so i might be one day I might be booking in a presentation I'm checking that staff have RSVP'd properly that kind of thing. We also organize occupational safety and health inductions for new staff so i might be sending out invites. Okay, it's time for you to give us the edge. Can you do that? Absolutely question number one, just quickly from school to what you do now what's the process? Definitely finish high school and an excellent way to increase your opportunities then enroll in either a human resource management course at there's a number of different institutions that offer it or you could do a degree in business and get a a major in human resources or even a psychology degree. Question 2 if I want to be really successful in human resources what characteristics do i need? Definitely a good people person, you need to love working with people, also excellent communication skills that's a big one you need to always be talking with people and also being able to say the same thing to everybody being consistent with your advice to give throughout the organization. And question number three, if you could have done one thing differently but still end up exactly where you are today what would you have done there? Good question i'm quite happy with the path I took but I will say definitely being a little bit more comfortable about asking questions and seeking advice. Well Alyce, thank you so much for talking me through it I now know what it means to work in human resources. Thank you very much it's been really fun. Well there you go that's just the tip of the iceberg of what it means to work in human resources. If you want to get involved you want more info you gotta get onto https://studentedge.org and don't forget if you really keen about it get out there network and meet people.

Effective Employee Conflict Resolution Learn how to Mediate Employee Conflict http://turnkeydoc.com/human-resources/performance-management/conflict-resolution/ So you are not an expert in Human Resources, its ok we are here to help. We can all probably agree that employee conflict in the workplace takes a high toll all around. One research study claims that 42% of a manager's time goes to mediating employee conflict. Without a solid guide for employee conflict resolution correctly, this could have disastrous results. But before we can navigate how to properly resolve conflict we have to understand why they arise in the first place. So, what creates conflict in the workplace? • Opposing Positions • Power Struggles • Ego • Pride • Jealousy • Performance Discrepancies • Compensation Issues or • Just someone having a bad day But the reality is that the root of most employee conflict is either born out of poor communication or the inability to control one's emotions. Countless times otherwise smart capable people place the need for emotional superiority ahead of achieving the collective company mission. Mediating employee conflict effectively can be done! But don't worry, in this video we will share some guidelines to keep in mind when you resolve conflict. Employee Conflict Resolution can be tricky so follow these steps. First - Talk to each employee conflict participant privately to piece together a story. When talking to each person involved, keep an objective but concerned tone. Do not agree or disagree, just listen. This is key to mediating employee conflict Second - Research each version of events and then write down the employee conflict or disagreement in a few sentences, what caused it and a possible solution for the problem. This is the second step in conflict resolution which will lead to mediating employee conflict successfully Third -Meet with the main employees involved in the conflict together in a private room. Keep a cordial and optimistic tone from the very beginning of the meeting and request the same from each person. Fourth - Objectively recite the conflict back to participants, telling both sides how you understand it. Verify with each person that what you've said is accurate. Allow each person to add or correct any details and propose solutions. Fifth - Reach a final solution based on participants' proposed solutions and ones you've come up with as the objective party. Employee Conflict Resolution is key to keeping up morale Lastly - Log the conflict--both sides of the story--and resolution into a document. Print out a copy for each party to the employee conflict and have them sign a master copy to verify the information is correct. File the document with human resources for future reference if the conflict ever arises again. This can ensure that mediating employee conflict does not need to repeat itself. Remember the worst thing you can do is avoid the conflict, hoping it will go away. This, too, shall pass, is not an option - EVER. Learning effective conflict resolution is your best option.
