Why go on Exchange? ........Benefits of Exchange!
Give your students a true education abroad experience, the most enjoyable and by far the best way to learn is to do so on an immersion program. In this way, the students gets totally immersed in the language, community, culture and settings of visiting places, which greatly speeds up the learning process. This excellent learning opportunity typically leaves the student with better understanding for people of all sorts, and can really make young people feel as though they have become “Citizens of the World.” While on an International Exchange Program students have the opportunity to learn at an international school, experience another culture, immerse themselves in the language and become a member of the host family. Cultural difference in business | Valerie Hoeks | TEDxHaarlem
This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. One of the elements of the cultural difference between Europe and China is the importance that is given to relationships. In the West you would assume the importance to be the same, but there is a significant distinction. In China connections with the right people help you to get things done, to survive and to succeed. Whereas in the West content is predominant, in China the way people interact with each other strongly influences the working environment. 'Face' and long-term effects are taken into consideration. Valérie Hoeks (1982) studied Sinology at the Leiden University and has been active in China for over a decade as a traveller, a student and later as an entrepreneur. As soon as she set foot on Chinese soil she knew she would come back many times. In 2010 Valérie co-founded China Inroads in collaboration with with her Dutch and Chinese business partner. China Inroads provides a strong foothold for innovative companies that want to expand their business to the Chinese market. The Columbian Exchange: Crash Course World History #23
In which John Green teaches you about the changes wrought by contact between the Old World and the New. John does this by exploring the totally awesome history book "The Columbian Exchange" by Alfred Cosby, Jr. After Columbus "discovered" the Americas, European conquerors, traders, and settlers brought all manner of changes to the formerly isolated continents. Disease and invasive plant and animal species remade the New World, usually in negative ways. While native people, plants, and animals were being displaced in the Americas, the rest of the world was benefitting from American imports, especially foods like maize, tomatoes, potatoes, pineapple, blueberries, sweet potatoes, and manioc. Was the Columbian Exchange a net positive? It's debatable. So debate. English Language and Cultural Exchange Program
This is the summary project video of an English language and cultural exchange pilot project which took place in May 2009 and went on for 6 weeks. Two native English teachers, Holly and Jan, in Europe were asked to teach 17 Chinese teens in a 6 week pilot for 40min a week. 17 Chinese students, 6 weeks and 40min per week allows for 14min speaking time at the most. This does not include even any teacher talking time nor any microphone passing. So, what can be done? This project nicely demonstrates that by combining a variety of methods and above all by connecting the learners with other learners in other countries, the outcome of the project exceeded all expectations. A lively exchange on the NING site http://huangpu.ning.com, an active chat during the synchronous sessions, recordings by the students, recordings of virtual classroom activity and lastly the presentations during the final meeting, which were diligently prepared speak for itself. 115 slides of presentations, 105 of Word pages of text chat, 405 images, 6h 49min of recordings and countless comments on the NING site by the learners in English are the impressive result. Sadly 3 weeks prior to the final ceremony the NING site was banned by the Chinese government (youtube is banned too and so is blip.tv). In order for the students in China to be able to see their work, teachertube.com was being used to upload all the outcomes.

Recovery seen in S. Korea-China cultural exchange; S. Korean FM expected to visit China in late Nov.
중국 '금한령' 슬슬 풀리나... 강경화 이르면 이달 중 방중 More signs of Seoul and Beijing's bilateral relations returning to normal. Recently there have been visible improvements in cultural exchanges. To ensure this trend continues, Korea's foreign minister could be making her way to China as early as this month. Oh Jung-hee reports. After South Korea decided to deploy the THAAD missile defense system in July 2016,... China's retaliatory measures were most visible... in the culture and entertainment sectors. Concerts and fan meetings were cancelled... and Korean celebrities couldn't star in China's TV programs,... nor could their video clips be distributed online. But as the two countries promised this week, to rebuild their relations as soon as possible,... changes are already being seen. On Tuesday, a K-pop group named Mamamoo was spotted arriving in China,... and according to industry insiders, they have performed for a TV music program in Sichuan province. Mid and small sized online video platforms are getting ready to resume importing South Korean dramas. And a couple of Chinese broadcasters, including the state-run CCTV,... have aired programs about the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics and the torch relay... which they never did during the over-one-year-long THAAD row. To keep up this somewhat-improved atmosphere,... Seoul's foreign minister is expected to visit Beijing this month. If it happens, it will be the first visit to China for Minister Kang Kyung-hwa, though she has already met her Chinese counterpart Wang Yi twice on the sidelines of international events. The two top diplomats are expected to discuss follow-up measures on mending bilateral relations,... President Moon Jae-in's possible visit to China later this year,... and ways to restrain North Korea's provocations and bring stability in the region. The visit could possibly take place in mid or late November... after Kang's tour to three Southeast Asian nations from November 8th to 15th. Oh Jung-hee, Arirang News. One of the Many Benefits of Being an Exchange Student in Thailand...
Being an exchange student means a lot of things. Specifically, it means you are an ambassadorial representation of your country. With that comes the struggle to understand a new language, a completely different culture, and a whole new set of customs. But this is all stuff they tell you before you leave. What they don't tell you is that you will be a FOREIGNER: also known as an amazing, pale-skinned, light-haired and light-eyed beauty. And you will be praised for it. And you will also be coerced into wearing several layers of makeup, too much hairspray, and ugly, poofy dresses while dancing in front of large groups of people against your own will. :) Because, you're an exchange student, and you'll definitely try anything.

Cultural exchange boosts connectivity (7.12.2015)
Secretary for Home Affairs Lau Kong-wah:  We firmly believe that, through cultural exchange and co-operation, we will be able to understand and appreciate each other's culture better and our friendships and connectivity will be strengthened. The forum this year is also very timely as our Central Government is taking forward the Belt & Road initiative. This grand and visionary initiative will expand connectivity, with a view to promoting economic, political and cultural co-operation among 60-plus economies. Through the Belt & Road initiative, we expect to see opportunities in expanding trade, finance and the building of people-to-people bonds on a global scale. Hong Kong, sharing the same language and cultural origins with Mainland China while benefiting from our long-standing connectedness with the rest of the world, still strives for an even broader, deeper, and more cultural co-operation by cultivating connectivity through promoting extensive cultural, academic and personnel exchanges. With our unique advantages, Hong Kong has all it takes to expand friendship and enrich the development of Asian culture and arts among countries along the Belt & Road. (http://j.mp/1lnsOls)
