Using and Connecting Network Switches to Share Resources

05:19
A network switch is a hardware device that joins multiple computers together on a single local area network (LAN). Network switches are almost identical to network hubs, but a switch usually contains more intelligence and a slightly higher cost than a hub. Network switches are capable of inspecting data packets as they are received by determining the source and destination device of each packet, and forwarding them appropriately on the network unlike a hub. Switches can also be connected together to create even larger arrays of computer communications. Also how to open the case on a Linksys E2SX16W switch and how to connect one internet to multiple computers.

01:12
Learn more at https://kirkpatrickprice.com/video/pci-requirement-10-track-and-monitor-all-access-to-network-resources-and-cardholder-data/ If data was compromised at your organization, how would you determine the cause? PCI Requirement 10 focuses on a critical aspect of data protection: logging and tracking. Implementing logging mechanisms at your organization gives you the ability to track user activities, which is crucial in preventing, detecting, and minimizing the consequences of a data breach. Without logging and tracking, it’s even more difficult to find the source of the data breach. This is why PCI Requirement 10 requires, “Track and monitor all access to network resources and cardholder data.” To ensure that organization implement logging and tracking mechanisms, PCI Requirement 10 details 33 sub-requirements. A server can be an expensive Windows 2008 Server, or a simple Windows XP Home computer with a shared printer. Operating System Server Operating Systems are more stable and secure then Desktop operating Systems Server Operating Systems and their Software are generally much more expensive then Desktop counterparts Server Operating Systems are generally not as easy to administer as Desktop Operating Systems Hardware A Server can use ANY hardware to operate, but Server Hardware is made to be more reliable then desktop hardware. Xeon Processors are standard processors used in servers Redundant Power Supply allow one power Supply to Fail while the Server is Still Running RAID -- Allows for a Hard Drive to fail without crashing the Server ECC RAM is RAM that does a self test. It is more stable then regular RAM, but much more expensive. Types of Servers Software features -- multiple features can be on one box Security and Authentication gives access to network resources Print Servers share printers on a network File Servers share files on a network Web/ FTP Servers provide websites on a network Mail Servers provide email routing for an organization Database Servers store data for outside applications Remote Access Servers allow Internet users to access the internal network. Usually a VPN connection. Final Thoughts... Buy what you need... Many people buy a $5000 server when all they need is a Dell bargain bin system.

The Future of Internet Infrastructure

06:36
With worldwide traffic projected to triple by 2021, we examine the near-term future of Internet Infrastructure—from 5G to prefabricated data centers to robotically-maintained server farms. Subscribe to TDC: https://www.youtube.com/TheDailyConversation/ More information: Study on future internet traffic: http://bit.ly/295hnsl The Internet of Things: https://www.globalxfunds.com/what-the-future-might-hold-for-the-internet-of-things/ Harald Haas' Li-Fi TED talk: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iHWIZsIBj3Q 5G explained: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GEx_d0SjvS0 Video researched, written, narrated, and directed by Bryce Plank Visualization and editing by Robin West Music from Motion Array Script: From 4k video, to 3-D, to virtual reality and beyond, we’re in love with rich, immersive media. As content on the Internet has become more dynamic, the amount of bandwidth we consume has skyrocketed, driving innovation in delivery and storage technology. This is a look at the future of Internet infrastructure. The activity you’re engaged in right now — streaming a video — is driving massive growth in the amount of data that’s being transferred. For perspective on how much data we’re consuming, 853 1.2 megabyte 5.25 inch floppy disks — like what Oregon Trail used to come on — equals 1 gigabyte. And there are 1,000 gigabytes in the 1 terabyte hard drives many of us have in our computers. In 2016, global IP traffic passed a zettabyte for the first time. That’s one billion terabytes. Internet video accounted for half that bandwidth. But in 2021, total worldwide traffic is projected to nearly triple to 3.3 zettabytes—that’s 3.3 trillion gigabytes of data. More than two thirds of that traffic will be Internet video, with IPTV like netflix taking up another 22%. To keep up with the increasing demand for data and high-speed connections, service providers have been driven to expand their network infrastructures and initiate projects like Google Fiber, heating up the competition. As a result, installation of large capacity 100Gb ethernet equipment grew 450% year-over-year in 2016. Google is also planning to use wireless alternatives that can deliver gigabit per second speeds to reach remote areas where it’s too expensive to set up Fiber. The other advancement we’ll see is the development of ultrafast 5G networks. In 2016 the Obama administration announced a $400m, seven year public-private partnership — spearheaded by the National Science Foundation — to jumpstart the effort. 5G will handle 1,000 times the traffic at 10 times the speed of existing 4G and LTE networks. Not only will you be able to download an HD movie in under 1 second, but it will free up bandwidth to make room for what’s on the horizon. Virtual Reality is incredibly data intensive, and soon millions of driverless cars will hit the road as billions of additional Internet connected devices come online. The Internet of Things is an absolute game-changer. Nearly every machine and many objects that aren’t — like our clothes — will be connected to the Internet. [John Volakis] “They’re washable, they can be embedded in electronics. I think eventually what we look forward to is to have circuitry, memory, as well as computer functionality to be embedded within wearable circuits.” You’ll be able to monitor your household appliances from your smartphone, buildings will be able to self monitor to detect wear and tear and factories will anticipate when its machinery — or more accurately, it’s robots — will break down, utility grids will communicate with energy providers and customers in real time, and cities will become smart as traffic lights, trash cans, water and gas lines will all be able to send service and condition updates, saving people valuable time and resources. This explosion of data-producing devices will lead to a revolution in how all that data is stored. The data center industry is one of the world’s most competitive markets. In addition to investing in adequate security measures, companies big and small must make their facilities run as efficiently as possible. The widespread adoption of uninterrupted power supply and cooling systems are driving energy reductions that weren’t possible even five years ago. Thermal management units and an expanded use of free cooling technology is creating energy savings of up to 70%. And by harvesting the power of our natural environments like higher altitude locations, night-time coldness, deep sea or lakewater, and subterranean geothermal energy, data centers are proving that the push to create a better tomorrow doesn’t have to doom future generations. In 2014 data centers in the United States were responsible for 2% of national energy consumption, but thanks to new technology that figure that won’t grow significantly—even as the amount of storage facilities does.

Sharing data and resources to gain a better understanding of child growth and development

29:47
Foundation for the National Institutes of Health: THE MAL-ED NETWORK - Sharing data and resources to gain a better understanding of child growth and development Children in resource-constrained areas of the world are more likely to suffer physical and cognitive development shortfalls than children in more affluent regions. The factors contributing to such shortfalls are complex, multi-factorial, and not completely elucidated. The MAL-ED Network, an observational birth cohort study conducted at eight sites in Asia, Africa, and South America, seeks to determine the effects of exposure to enteric infections, malnutrition, and gut dysfunction on subsequent physical and cognitive development and on immune responses to childhood vaccines. The strength and compelling feature of the MAL-ED Network is the willingness of the collaborators to work together to share protocols, data, and biospecimens and to work together on multisite analyses. Out of the Trenches: A Linked Open Data Project

06:51
Partners of the Pan-Canadian Documentary Heritage Network (PCDHN) have developed a "proof-of-concept" to showcase a sampling of the network's wealth of digital resources using "linked open data" and principles of the semantic web. The underlying premise is to expose the metadata for these resources using RDF/XML and existing/published ontologies (element sets) and vocabularies, maximizing discovery by a broad user community. The partners selected the First World War as the topic for the digital resources to be contributed to the proof-of-concept. The metadata for these digital resources was provided by five partner institutions.

Useful Resources and Websites: TokenData the news, data and analytics for all ICO’s and tokens

04:40
Useful Resources and Websites: TokenData the news, data and analytics for all ICO’s and tokens Website link: https://www.tokendata.io/ This is NOT a sponsored video even though it might look like one. What is it? TokenData is a website that lists the past, present and upcoming ICOs. However unlike most of the ICO related websites TokeData also analyses the past ICOs and allows the users to see the returns of the past ICOs when compred against fiat, BTC or ETH The aim of the website is to track the future ICOs but also analyse the performance of the past ICOs to try to predict how the future ICOs will perform. This is also the best way to track howe much each ICO has raised. Why is it useful? Analysing the past trends in the ICOs can be useful to predict whether the ICO can generate returns once listed on exchanges. There's a feature that shows the returns when compared to USD, Bitcoin and Ethereum. This can be used to analyse general trends in ICO investment and also how the hype level or the type of the ICO affects the returns. The amount of money raised can be used to see how that affects the valuation of the project later. You can see the trends of how USD raised is connected to Returns. Quite often if ICO raises too much money the tokens are later dumped. The analytics feature is also super useful because if shows all of the social media connected to the cryptocurrency which can be useful for news and analysing trends. There's also feature that tracks NEO ICOs only which is great since NEO investors still lack ICO investment options. NEO ICOs also often perform better since they are less 'mainstream'. NOTE: You can see where that data that is collected from these devices goes on our CLOUD DATA NETWORK by clicking the video below: http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=jobforce#p/u/30/VfKI2Av_9yw Payroll processing and accurately keeping track of participants time sheets are a thing of the past for smart training providers and employment agencies accustomed to handling large numbers of applicants and participants in Summer Youth Employment Programs. David Hoffman shows what technology his agency uses to make sure arrival and departure time is automatically captured from applicants, participants, and workers in the Summer Youth Employment Program. Hoffman uses various methods to efficiently capture data at participating worksites, and from supervisors in the field. The workers names, ID numbers, as well as their arrival and departure times are then sent instantaneously to the Cloud Data Center via an software as a service (SaaS) application that is hosted on the Cloud. Any program administrator can see in 'real-time' the exact location of each participant, as well as the actual cost of running the program in terms of labor hours budgeted versus the amount being spent & 'obligated to pay. A hard copy time receipt is also printed out at the jobsite using the mobile waistband printer for the participant to reconcile their hours at the end of each week at the job site. Problems are quickly identified, and adjustments are made at the job site immediately and NOT AT THE SPONSORING MUNICIPAL AGENCY! This strategy was first developed in 2007, and has been used by Hoffman and his affiliates ever since.
