Ever since then, I’ve been doing these things: Writing books Writing articles for newspapers and magazines Going to schools, libraries and theatres and performing the poems in my books Helping children write poems and stories Making radio programmes, mostly about words, language or books Appearing on TV, either reading books, or talking about books Teaching at universities about children’s literature Running workshops for teachers about poetry In any week, I might be doing all of these things! To tell the truth, I don’t really know what I’m doing tomorrow, unless I look in my diary to see. Review of The Hypnotiser Right class 6, RIGHT CLASS 6, I'm talking, I'm talking, I want complete quiet and that includes you, David Alexander, yes you...' 'The Outing', by Michael Rosen, just one of the fantastic and hilarious poems from his short story and poetry collection The Hypnotiser. This particular poem was read to me as a young child in primary school time and time again. Each time the names in the poem were changed to the names of the pupils in my class. It never got old, or less hilarious and I wouldn't hesitate in reading this to my future classes during my teaching career. Other great poems from this collection include 'The Car Trip'; a highlight of the sibling chaos that goes on in the back of the car when Mum is driving: 'He started it. I didn't. He started it...', 'Tomato 1'; the gruelling ordeal of being given a tomato to eat by your mother and you simply just hate tomatoes, and 'Tidy Your Room'; every child's nightmare. Each and every poem and short story relates to children through typical experiences that most would have endured. This book enlightens children's love and enthusiasm for poetry, an almost forgotten about genre for most children; a runner up to fiction books. This book can have many uses in the classroom; appropriate for children in Key Stage Two it can be read by the teacher at the end of the day during story time, like in my own experience at primary school. Or, during a poetry topic in Literacy, this book could model fun, interesting, age appropriate poetry that will inspire children to write their own poems. Likewise for shared reading; this book would be fantastic to put under the visualiser and look through with the class at the how poems are written, their structure, do they rhyme? do they tell a story? All sorts of things can be addressed with the class as a whole. This book needs to be shown to children, whether at school on the class bookshelf, or online where you can find video clips of Michael Rosen performing these poems; a great filler for those odd five minutes that arise during the busy school day. Hamza Yusuf is a cofounder and current president of Zaytuna College, located in Berkeley, California. He is an advisor to Stanford University’s Program in Islamic Studies and the Center for Islamic Studies at Berkeley’s Graduate Theological Union. He also serves as vice-president for the Global Center for Guidance and Renewal, which was founded and is currently presided over by Shaykh Abdallah bin Bayyah, one of the top jurists and masters of Islamic sciences in the world. Recently, Hamza Yusuf was ranked as “the Western world’s most influential Islamic scholar” by The 500 Most Influential Muslims, edited by John Esposito and Ibrahim Kalin, (2009). Hamza Yusuf is one of the leading proponents of classical learning in Islam. He has promoted Islamic sciences and classical teaching methodologies throughout the world. He has also been a strong advocate for social justice, peace, and conviviality among peoples and places. For several years, he has argued that the “them versus us” problem is fundamentally flawed, as he considers himself one of “them” as well as one of “us.” Hamza Yusuf has served as an advisor to many organizations, leaders, and heads of state. He has been an innovator in modern Islamic education, founding the highly imitated Deen Intensives, and with Shaykh Ibrahim Osi-Afa, he started the first Rihla program in England, which has been running for over fifteen years. Dozens of young Muslims who were influenced by his call to reviving traditional Islamic studies in the West went to the Muslim lands in the nineties and early part of the current decade to study, many of who are now teachers in their own right.Hamza Yusuf's contribution to the development of Islam in England has been described as "immense", "considerable", and "enormous", by the academic Haifaa Jawad in her recent book, Towards Building a British Islam. With Eissa Bougari, Hamza Yusuf initiated a media challenge to the Arab world that resulted in a highly successful cultural religious program that he hosted for three years and was one of the most watched programs in the Arab world during Ramadan. Cambridge Media Studies stated that this program had a profound influence on subsequent religious programming in the Arab world. He has also been interviewed on BBC several times and was the subject of a BBC documentary segment The Faces of Islam, ushering in the new millennium, as it aired at 11:30pm on Dec. 31st 1999. Hamza Yusuf has been a passionate and outspoken critic of American foreign policy as well as Islamic extremist responses to those policies. He has drawn criticism from both the extreme right in the West and Muslim extremists in the East. Ed Hussain has written that Hamza Yusuf’s teachings were instrumental to his abandoning extremism. Hamza Yusuf is an American Muslim scholar, Yusuf was born as Mark Hanson to two academics in Washington State and raised in Northern California. He grew up a practicing Greek Orthodox Christian and attended prep schools on both the east and west coasts. In 1977, after a near-death experience and reading the Qur'an, he converted to Islam from Christianity. The Guardian newspaper in the United Kingdom reported that "Hamza Yusuf is arguably the west's most influential Islamic scholar." Similarly, The New Yorker magazine reported that Yusuf is "perhaps the most influential Islamic scholar in the Western world". Education: Soon after converting, Yusuf moved to England, Spain, and eventually Al Ain in the United Arab Emirates to pursue serious study of Islam. There he primarily studied Arabic and also served as a muezzin of a local mosque. There he was introduced to Mauritanian scholars and began more serious study of various Islamic disciplines including Maliki fiqh. This eventually led him to travel to Mauritania itself in order to study directly with the renowned scholar and sage of the land, Sidi Muhammad ould Fahfu al-Massumi, more famously known as Murabit al-Hajj. During his intermittent stays there, Yusuf both lived and studied directly with Murabit al-Hajj. Hamza Yusuf has also authored several encyclopedia articles and research papers. His published books include The Burda (2003), Purification of the Heart (2004), The Content of Character (2004), The Creed of Imam al-Tahawi (2007), Agenda to Change our Condition (2007), Walk on Water (2010), and The Prayer of the Oppressed (2010).

These occasions can reaffirm our belief in a higher power, and make our day immensely better. However, sometimes we lose the food lottery in an epic way. We have all experienced the pain and anguish that occurs when you realize you got a bag of burnt chips, or that your banana is secretly bruised. The people in this video wish that those were their worst problems. Bruised bananas are bad, but they are certainly better than finding a live scorpion mixed in with the bananas you purchased from your local Costco. We all know that fast food isn’t good for us, but one man got more than just a mouthful of grease when he bit into some chicken from KFC. Initially, he thought it was a brain, but thankfully KFC reassured him that it was just a harmless kidney. If you prefer to go for some healthy food, you could try ordering a salad. Just make sure that it doesn’t include any lizard heads like the one a woman from New York found in hers. Frozen veggies can be great as well, unless there is a frozen frog lurking in the bag along with the peas, carrots, and corn. Thankfully, most of these people noticed something was amiss before they bit in, but the man who found a frog in his Diet Pepsi wasn’t quite so lucky. I Ate One Meal a Day For a Month, See What Happened to Me
Can you eat just one meal a day? The human body can survive without a bite of food for up to 3 weeks. Of course, it’s a different story with water; you wouldn’t last more than 3 or 4 days without it! You and I both know that people are expected to eat 3 full meals a day: breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Depending on how filling those meals are, you may squeeze in a few snacks here and there. It usually takes about 4 hours after each meal for your belly to start making those too-often-than-not embarrassingly monstrous growls, reminding you that it’s time for your next meal! But with different diets and fasting gaining popularity, I couldn’t help but wonder what would happen to my body if I ate just one meal every day for 30 days. I did it, and here’s what I got out of it! There aren’t too many strict guidelines to this diet. You can essentially eat any foods you want and as much as you want, as long as it’s during your one singular meal of the day. - Unlike a lot of other diets, there are no special ingredients involved and no annoying calorie counting. If you want French fries, have French fries! If you’re craving a big bowl of spaghetti, go for it! - If weight loss is a goal of yours, it’s important not to overeat during your one meal since it can disrupt the diet’s ability to help you maintain a steady drop in pounds. - After trying it for a couple of days, I found that my body quickly adjusted to this way of eating, and my appetite really wasn’t that raging. This must be because my stomach probably shrank after a few days, so I felt satisfied with just one meal a day. - For the first couple days, my stomach was definitely feeling hunger pangs. It started with stomach growls and ended with painful cramping. - For the first week, I just wanted to lie on the couch and Netflix and chill all day long. My energy was super low, and I felt so lethargic. - After the 30 days, I found that I’d actually dropped a few pounds! I felt pretty awesome not only because I’d gotten leaner and felt healthier, but I was also really proud of myself for sticking to a diet that I easily could’ve given up on. - One of the main concerns I found online was the fact that women and men respond differently to this type of intermittent fasting. Women have a stronger need for iron in their diet. - I also read up on different studies. One of them was conducted in 2017 by researchers at the University of Saskatchewan. They found that the one meal a day diet can be helpful for people suffering from type 2 diabetes since it helps with weight loss and reducing blood sugar levels. - Other studies have shown that it can really help increase the lifespan in people with obesity. - It just a super specific thing that each person should check with their doctor to see if they can do it safely. A lot of people swear by it, and I’m happy with the weight loss results I got. EGG-SHELLENT HACKS Eggs are easy to cook! They're cheap. I'm pretty sure you have them in the fridge right now. But how to make sure each time you cook eggs you can create a little masterpiece?! These egg hacks will surely help you with that! Some people put the eggs in cold water others put water to boiling then drop in the egg. Both methods have advantages and disadvantages. The difference is in how fast you heat up the egg. Starting with cold water, lets you heat the egg more slowly, which keeps the whites from getting rubbery. This method takes longer and gives you less control over the cooking time. Besides the egg will be harder to peel. In boiling water, the egg heats up really fast, making it much easier to control cooking time. But this method has a . Because the egg heats up so fast the shell can crack. And how to get that perfectly peeled egg each time?! Place your eggs in boiling water and cook for a certain amount of time. Then place your eggs into an ice bath and leave them there for about 10 - 15 minutes. After that peeling the egg is very easy. Just tap it at the table, roll it a few times and the shell will go off by itself. Perfect! How long should you cook the eggs? If you cook the eggs in the already boiling water you will always be able to control the result, you'll see in the video how the yolk looks like depending on the cooking time! Pick those to your liking! We’re done with boiled eggs. Let’s get on to fried ones. We have the pan on medium heat. Let’s add some butter. Now break your egg carefully. The heat should be sufficient but not to high, so that white cooks but doesn’t bubble. And here comes the egg hack – adding a bit of water and now we put the lid on. This creates a kind of a steam bath for an egg. Which results in a beautiful bright egg yolk and a cooked through white. And last but not the least way of cooking the eggs- scrambled eggs. First let’s crack the eggs into the bowl. Oops, a piece of the shell fell right in! If you don’t like your scrambled eggs with a shell. Then get a shell from a broken egg and use it to get broken piece out of the bowl. To cook those perfect scrambled eggs, you need to beat them in a bowl. Then seize in with salt and pepper to taste. Now melt some butter in the pan. There should be quite a lot of it. Next, pour the eggs in and wait. Make sure to keep the heat pretty low. When the eggs start to settle on the edge, take your spatula and start stirring the eggs from the outside in. When the eggs are about 2/3 cooked, we need to use another egg hack and a little bit more butter. Melt the butter and it will get our scrambled eggs a wonderful creamy taste. When you think the eggs need little bit more cooking, remove them from the heat. When you take a bit of sev puri, the entire little disc will explode with delicious flavors, and it’s all about that chutney! 4. Pav Bhaji - Originally made from leftover vegetables that were mashed up, mixed with some butter and spices, and served with bread to mop it all up, pav bhaji is pretty much exactly that today, and it’s an Indian street food known for being popular in Mumbai. At some of the famous pav bhaji stalls, the mixture of potatoes and tomatoes is mashed up on a big hot plate, mixed with spices and butter, and then served with buttered fluffy buns. 5. Kebabs and Rolls - For any meat lovers, kebabs and rolls are one of the best things to eat in Mumbai. I especially enjoyed the bhuna roll in Mumbai, a wonderfully flavorful chicken curry packed into a thin rumali roti. 6. Chai - It’s not a food, but it is one of the joys of being in India, and that is drinking cups of hot chai on the side of the street. You don’t want to miss it when you’re in Mumbai. 7. Pani Puri - Popular as a street food snack across India, pani puri is the combination of little puris (hollow sphere chips) filled with potatoes and chickpeas, and then filled with chutney and flavored water. Each bite is a burst of incredible flavor and water. 8. Bombay Duck Fry - Although it’s commonly eaten at indoor restaurant, because of it’s importance in Mumbai, and since it’s served at local restaurants, I had to include it on this list of Mumbai food. Known at Bombay duck or bombil, it’s actually a type of lizardfish which is often deep fried and served with rice and side curries. It’s something you should try when you’re in Mumbai. 9. Mumbai Sandwich (Bombay Sandwich) - You don’t usually think of sandwiches when you think of Indian street food, but in Mumbai, the sandwich is one of the most popular roadside snacks. Often times pure vegetarian, a combination of masala potatoes, tomatoes, onions, beetroot, cheese, and chutney is pressed between bread, and grilled over fired. The result is a fascinating street sandwich you’ll never forget. 10. Dosa - Although from South India, Mumbai is a hub of Indian food, and you’ll find dosas all over Mumbai as well. The classic traditional version is a masala dosa, but there are also fusion types of dosas, including the paneer tikka dosa, which is absolutely magical.
