From Photo to FreeCAD: 3D printing a derailleur hanger
Upshot: Anyone can learn to CAD. In this one, I re-bumble my way through modeling a bike component (rear derailleur hanger) and 3D printing a mock up, based on a photo. Some further development and testing will happen at a later date. Here's sliptonic's (Brad Collette) demo on sketching from images. If you watch through to part 3, he even demonstrates using the Path workbench to generate the gcode to mill the parts. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SUkjk--WlE8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7yV_lO73Su4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aif-bTEMuWY This is the other guy who printed one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7KfmWe_PaA8&t=3s After sliptonic's channel, this is probably the next best set of tutorials I've seen. It's using an older FreeCAD, and hasn't had any new content in a while, but it'll get you started. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC_9HwDkwxllq5lFGkYBIH9g/ I found this guy's stuff after publishing my video, and he has a bunch of good ones too, both for FreeCAD and a few other open source CAD programs. Especially look at the "CAD Challenge" series ones. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCnxMaGMCrWAQgwF61ISRpGw And as I briefly referenced in the video, if you know Python, I strongly encourage you to take a look at the CadQuery API: https://dcowden.github.io/cadquery/index.html That's what I use for making 95% of the stuff I print. (Basically all functional parts; not much in the way of art.) And here's the Thingiverse page where you can find the FCStd file created in this video: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3537755

Final from 3D Foundations
So this is my final product of the first month of core classes in the Computer Animation (3D Foundations). This is the result of the second time I've ever messed with Maya, and I think the project came out great. We were limited to a 6 second video. Everything had to be between 300-500 polygons and the character between 500-800 polygons. The entire scene had to be quads, and there were many other requirements. I had a lot of fun in this class and I'm ready to move on to harder things.
