From the way we study differential equations, we tend to think that all differential equations fit into one of these neat categories. In fact, these special cases are the exception, not the rule. The vast majority of differential equations don’t fit these formats, and we don’t have a convenient way to solve them with calculus. When that’s the case, we can use a numerical method instead to approximate the value of the solution. Euler’s method is one of the most common numerical methods, and gives us a way to approximate the solution to a differential equation initial value problem. It helps you 'get rid of' unnecessary parameters, and lets you zero in on what's important. Terence Tao (born 17 July 1975) is an Australian-American mathematician who has worked in various areas of mathematics. He currently focuses on harmonic analysis, partial differential equations, algebraic combinatorics, arithmetic combinatorics, geometric combinatorics, compressed sensing and analytic number theory. As of 2015, he holds the James and Carol Collins chair in mathematics at the University of California, Los Angeles. Tao was a co-recipient of the 2006 Fields Medal and the 2014 Breakthrough Prize in Mathematics. Terence Tao: "I am a Professor at the Department of Mathematics, UCLA. I work in a number of mathematical areas, but primarily in harmonic analysis, PDE, geometric combinatorics, arithmetic combinatorics, analytic number theory, compressed sensing, and algebraic combinatorics. We show that the answer is armative if the curve consists of two Lipschitz graphs of constant less than 1 using an integration by parts technique, and give some related problems which look more tractable.
