Customers have been moving towards places with healthier menus, and many traditional chains are adding items to address this. I tried eating these "healthy" fast foods for an entire week. I had every meal at McDonald's, Wendy's, Taco Bell, Burger King, Subway, Dunkin' Donuts or Chick-fil-A. But hidden in between the burgers and tacos are some "healthy" options: salads, grilled chicken, yogurts, oatmeal, power burritos. Doesn't sound too bad, right? I spent a week eating nothing but these "healthy" fast foods and I lost six-and-a-half pounds. But even though I lost about a pound a day, it didn't really go well. I live in New York City, a place with every possible food you could want. Eating healthy here, it's a breeze. But across America, there are more than 200,000 fast food joints, and they're bringing in more than $200 billion a year in sales. And no matter where you go, you're never far from a place like McDonald's or Taco Bell. But in recent years, consumers want better, healthier choices, and the traditional fast food places have been losing customers to those fast casual healthy options. The rules were pretty simple: Eat every major meal at a national fast food chain and stick to the healthy options. McDonald's, Wendy's, Burger King, Taco Bell, Dunkin' Donuts, Subway, and Chick-fil-A; nothing but them for a week. Yeah, I lost almost seven pounds, but let's take a close look at the numbers. On a normal day, I'm eating around 2,500 calories. An adult man should be having about 2,400 to 2,600 calories a day. But on this fast food plan, my calories plummeted. Most of these meals came in under 400 calories, and that was one of my first problems. I'd eat and just a couple hours later, I was starving. And I had days when I didn't eat more than 1,000 calories. Now, some of these meals were really good. My favorite was this grilled chicken market salad from Chick-fil-A. It had blueberries, strawberries, apples; it was delicious and it was actually healthy. However, a lot of the other salads from Burger King, McDonald's, and Wendy's were loaded with salt, often more than 50% of what I needed for the entire day, from a salad. In fact, excess salt was a problem the entire week. I thought I had hit the jackpot with Taco Bell's al Fresco menu. They take off all the cheese and mayo-based sauces and replace it with lettuce and pico de gallo. One night I got tacos, another night I got a power cantina burrito, and these were meals with more protein than usual. So, I felt like I was getting enough food. They were good, too good. It was all salt. In fact, just one burrito had almost as much salt as I needed in just one day. The American Heart Association says we should limit our sodium to about 2,300 milligrams a day, but the ideal is closer to 1,500 milligrams a day, especially for a person like me with high blood pressure. But if you look at my sodium intake, it was high every day, yet I was barely getting the calories I needed. If I wanted to keep the sodium down, I was starving. If I wanted to feel full, salt through the roof. You see, that's an issue in the fast food industry. Wendy's even acknowledges on their website that there's going to be a trade-off between salt and flavor. It was weird. I didn't feel healthy at all throughout the week, even though I was eating healthy foods and losing weight. And on the last day, I had this massive headache that was just infuriating. These places, they're supposed to be tasty, cheap, and convenient. But it wasn't cheap. Every healthy option was expensive, but left me hungry. For eight grilled nuggets and this tiny kale salad at Chick-fil-A, $12. For the power Mediterranean salad at Wendy's, it was almost $8, yet I could get a cheeseburger, nuggets, fries, and a soda for only $4. That brings me to another problem. Walk into McDonald's and you get hit with that sweet, sweet french fry smell, and I had to get a salad. Would I recommend this to anyone? Nope, unless you're stuck on the road with no other options. Though there was a bright spot: breakfast at Subway. They have these egg-white-and-cheese sandwiches, which I got covered in spinach and peppers. And let me tell you, it was good. But after all this, I just want a cheeseburger.

Make those food choices too often you'll end up paying the price with a roll of extra belly fat hanging over your waist line. But the truth of the matter is there are "Healthy Fast Food Options" available if you just go looking for them. One of our staples that we'll have at least once a week is to buy a Pre-Cooked BBQ Chicken and a Pre-Made Garden Salad. This is a great source of quality protein and veggies that will fit inline with pretty much any bodybuilding diet, even a hardcore fat loss cutting diet. Other fast food options that you can go with are eating out at Subway and ordering a Garden Salad with chicken breast or tuna fish added in for some extra protein. Pretty much any restaurant that you go to will allow you to order some grilled chicken, meat, or fish. Then you could follow that up with a garden salad and a baked potato for a well balanced meal. Even if it's not listed like that on the menu, you should be able to order it if you ask your server. Bottom line, don't fall into the excuse of thinking you have to "Eat Bad" and make "Poor Food Choices" because you are too busy and don't have time to eat right. It takes just as much time to get and eat a "Junk Food" meal as it does to get and eat a "Healthy Food Meal". You just need the self discipline to make the best choices that will support your health and fitness goals. However, sometimes you may not have the time and energy to cook and so driving through the nearest fast food joint may be your first option. Don’t fret--in this video we are going to mention some healthy fast food you can order from popular fast food places that are not loaded with extra calories and fat. The first healthiest fast food meal is: A bowl of breakfast oatmeal at McDonald's. Fortunately, Mcdonald's does have something healthier in their typically unhealthy menu and that is a medium bowl of oatmeal topped with fresh apples, dried fruits and a hint of fresh cream. You can also tell them to not put any brown sugar on top. The good thing about oats is that they are naturally rich in fiber and will make you feel fuller for longer which also leads to more balanced energy throughout the day. No 2: Taco Bell’s Veggie Bowl in Power menu. Vegans who are on the hunt for a fulfilling meal packed with good amounts of plant protein will absolutely love this. This fancy mexican style bowl features a bed of rice topped with black beans, guacamole, pico de gallo, and crispy lettuce which all amount to 16 grams of protein to keep you feeling full for longer. No 3: Starbucks Spinach, Feta, and Cage-free egg white breakfast wrap. This a very healthier low-calorie version of ordinary breakfast wraps which are sometimes loaded with bacon, heavy cream, and cheese. It is a bit salty from the fetta and the seasonings so make sure your drink enough water afterwards. No 4: Chipotle salad. Now you can enjoy your favorite mexican flavors without having to worry about too many calories and extra fat. Instead of ordering a saucy and cheesy dish simply go for a salad that has everything you want to try out like beans, corn, lettuce, and pico de gallo minus the dressing and a full portion of cheese. That way you can can have a zesty and filling meal for less than 400 calories. No 5: Grilled Chicken Cool Wrap If you don’t feel like ordering a plain sandwich, try ordering a grilled chicken wrap instead. Grilled chicken is a great source of lean protein and it comes with carrots, lettuce, a cheese for extra flavor without piling up much calories. No 6: Subway’s Oven Roasted chicken on multigrain bread. This 330-calorie chicken sandwich is packed with 23 grams of protein and 7 grams of fiber from the multigrain bread which are really good amounts for covering your daily intake of both protein and fiber. Remember, there is no need to stress when you visit fast joints now as they offer at least one menu item that is healthier than the rest. Big Macs, McNuggets, Fries. Everyone knows these McDonald's menu items. Unfortunately, these aren't their healthiest options. Maybe that's not a huge surprise, but what are the healthiest things you can get at McDonald's? We asked Samantha Pyser, a registered dietitian, for her thoughts. Let's start with breakfast. With its high-calorie count and sodium content, you should probably avoid a breakfast sandwich like the Sausage, Egg & Cheese McGriddle. Instead, try the Fruit and Maple Oatmeal w/o Brown Sugar. Or, go for the Fruit 'N Yogurt Parfait. The USDA suggests adults who are "moderately active" consume 2,000-2,800 calories a day. It's also recommended to eat less than 2,300 milligrams of sodium a day. That means eating just one Sausage, Egg & Cheese McGriddle accounts for more than half of your recommended sodium intake. Too much sodium consumption can lead to high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, or other serious medical conditions. Moving on to lunch...McDonald's is world famous for its Big Mac. "Two all-beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun." But all those ingredients add up. Instead, try the Filet-O-Fish. Or, if you're in the mood for a burger, get the plain Hamburger. Adding a slice of cheese raises the sodium content, but it's still manageable. If you're adding to your meal, you should probably skip the fries. Instead, go for the Apple Slices. Or, opt for the Side Salad. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat. add garlic and onion,stirring constantly. Add carrots broccoli and 2 tbsp water and cover until tender, about 6-8 minutes. uncover and add boiled green beans, peas, soy sauce mixed with honey and black pepper. Cook until vegetables are tender but still crisp. 3 Chickpea, spinach and egg 280 calories (1 serving) Ingredients 1 egg boiled 1 garlic 1 tsp olive oil 1 medium tomato 1/4 tsp ground cumin 1/4 tsp curry powder salt and black pepper 3 oz chickpeas, cooked 1 tsp lemon juice 1 tbsp parsley 2 oz spinach Preparation Boil the egg for 12 minutes, or until done to your liking. When cool enough to handle, shell, halve and set aside. Meanwhile, heat the oil in a large frying pan over a low heat. Add garlic, chopped tomato, cumin, curry powder, salt and black pepper and stir-fry for 1 minute. Add chickpeas, lemon juice and cook for 6–8 minutes, or until reduced and thickened, stirring often. Transfer to a plate and top with two egg halves. 4 White bean salad 210 calories (1 serving) Ingredients 2 leaves romaine lettuce 7 cherry tomatoes 1/4 medium red bell pepper, chopped 1 medium cucumber, chopped 2 oz canned white beans 2 tbsp olives 1 tsp white vinegar 1 tsp olive oil 1 tsp dijon mustard salt and black pepper Preparation In a large bowl combine, lettuce, halved cherry tomatoes, red bell pepper, cucumber, white beans, olives. As much as you can, you should avoid eating at fast food places so often. The healthier option is always to cook at home. However, life gets busy, and sometimes, we have no choice but to eat out. It doesn’t always have to be a greasy meal, though! There are healthy foods to be had at the drive-thru. Here are some of them up next! Eat Fresh If you’re a certain age, you remember those commercials that showed how much weight you could lose by regularly eating at Subway. There are probably better diets than eating sandwiches on the daily, but Subway is still definitely on the healthier end of the fast food spectrum. For people looking to shed some pounds, keep portions in mind, and only eat a six-inch sub at a time. These meals range anywhere from 290 calories to 370 calories at the most. Stay away from anything with bacon or copious amounts of cheese. Subway also offers salads where the calories do not exceed 140 and the grams up fat only go up to 3.5. Remember to be mindful of the toppings. Things like the ranch dressing, mayonnaise, and pepperoni aren’t the best for you. However, vegetables like tomatoes, avocados, banana peppers, and dressings like vinegar or mustard are a plus for your health. 3. Have It Your Way Burger King is famous for allowing you to customize your burgers as much as you want. Whenever a restaurant gives you that many options, the more likely you are to find a combination that won’t give you the gains. Burger King’s veggie burgers have as much protein as their other hamburgers but with only 240 calories as opposed to over 500. Soon, Burger King just may be launching a burger featuring the Impossible Burger patty, an option they only had in a few restaurants. The Impossible Burger, which is said to eerily mimic meat down to the texture and taste, apparently contains more nutrients that real beef and has a less harmful impact on the environment. When ordering a meal, watch out for the sodium intake, as that, along with calories, is what can kill your diet. What’s excellent about Burger King is that their classic hamburgers have half the calories compared to their more elaborate burgers but are just as satisfying to your hunger. 2. To Go Or Not To Go? Those of you who live on the west coast or have visited the west coast and love this fast food establishment, you know that feeling of the In-N-Out craving. It happens to the best of us. The smart thing to do is to pause for a second and not automatically order a double-double cheeseburger with a milkshake and animals fries. So what should you get instead? According to eatthis.com, their healthiest option is a regular hamburger with lettuce, tomato, and half the average amount of special sauce. This option will only add up to 390 calories and 19 grams of fat, 5 grams of which are saturated fats. An order with even fewer calories is their protein style burgers, which is the same thing as a regular hamburger but without the buns. Taking away those cards drops the calories down to 240, though the fat is still around 17 grams. 1...

Today, I’m analyzing the healthiest menu options and the worst belly busting menu options at KFC, also known as Kentucky Fried Chicken. So lets get right into it and check out the healthiest foods at KFC. If you’re looking for the healthiest foods at KFC, order the: - Kentucky grilled chicken breast - House salad - Light Italian dressing (if you need it) - Side of green beans - Oatmeal cookie (if you want dessert) I’m not sure why, but KFC doesn’t offer a grilled chicken salad. They do have a house salad, however it doesn’t sound like much of a salad as the only ingredients are lettuce and tomato. How to make a grilled chicken salad at KFC: 1. Buy one Kentucky grilled chicken breast. 2. Break it up into bite sized pieces. 3. Add it to the house salad. 4. Eat the green beans on the side. Is KFC chicken healthy? I have to let you know up front, there are a lot of preservatives and other ingredients in the chicken that you should not eat every day, including: Soy and MSG. The green beans also have MSG. What is the healthiest KFC salad dressing? KFC doesn’t really offer a healthy salad dressing. If you need salad dressing, the healthiest KFC salad dressing would be the Marzetti Light Italian dressing. However, this salad dressing is full of preservatives and chemicals. What is the healthiest KFC beverage? Go with the 12 oz unsweetened iced tea. What is the healthiest KFC dessert? If you need a dessert, stick with the oatmeal raisin cookie. 2019 nutrition facts for this meal: Calories: 410 Protein: 42g (41% of calories) Carbohydrates: 31g (30% of calories) Fiber: 5g Sugar: 17g Fat: 14g (31% of calories) Sodium: 1,580mg If you look at the macronutrient breakdown of this meal, it’s pretty good. But once again, I’m not excited about the ingredients that are added to these foods. Worst foods at KFC: If you want to eat the unhealthiest foods at KFC, order the: - KFC Famous Bowl - Side of potato wedges - Finger Lickin’ Good dipping sauce - 30oz Code Red Mountain Dew - For dessert, the mini chocolate chip cake - 30oz Code Red Mountain Dew. And don’t be fooled if you think the Tropicana Twister Orange drink is any healthier. Just like all the other sodas, it’s loaded with sugar. 2019 nutrition facts for this meal: Calories: 1,850 Protein: 34g (7% of calories) Carbohydrates: 282g (61% of calories) Fiber: 10g Sugar: 158g Fat: 70g (34% of calories) Sodium: 3,560mg Based on the macronutrient breakdown of this meal, it’s way out of whack. Plus, the 3,560mg of sodium is more than you need in an entire day. These were the healthiest and worst foods on the KFC menu analyzed. Are the KFC chicken sandwiches healthy? If you’re thinking the KFC sandwiches are any healthier, they’re not. The buns are made with soybean oil and high fructose corn syrup. So let me first give Chipotle a shout out for having an excellent website to showcase the nutrition of their food. Chipotle’s website is easy to follow and is filled with information showing the ingredients, and the calories and macronutrients of each food. Then we look at the ingredients that make up the food, and then finally the calorie, sodium, and macronutrient make up (fat, carbs, and protein). How did you think Chipotle did? Lets start with the best. Healthiest foods at Chipotle: Here’s what I want you to focus on ordering at Chipotle. Chicken salad with fajita vegetables, tomatillo green-chili salsa, and guacamole I want you to get the chicken salad, with romaine lettuce, fajita vegetables, tomatillo green-chili salsa, and guacamole. The guacamole at Chipotle is really good since it’s made with all fresh ingredients, and it’s a great source of healthy fat.
