This course will help you understand the necessary competencies and certifications for HR professionals. The combination of observable and measurable knowledge, skills, abilities and personal attributes that contribute to enhanced employee performance and ultimately result in human resource success. The Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM), the leading professional association for HR, recently developed a list of competencies that are arranged in a new model. Here is a summary of the SHRM competency framework. The model was developed based on advice given by more than 1,200 practitioners who participated in focus groups; survey responses provided by more than 32,000 other professionals; and analysis of multiple performance outcomes that were linked back to the competencies. Ideally, awareness and consideration of these competencies should guide the professional development of HR leaders. In addition, individuals’ application of these competencies will often vary as they progress through their HR careers, from the early and middle levels to the senior and executive levels. The broad range of issues faced by HR professionals has made involvement in professional associations and organizations important. Certifying knowledge and competency is a trend in many professions, and HR illustrates the importance of certification by making many types available. Given that some people enter HR jobs with limited formal HR training, certifications help both individuals and their employers ensure that appropriate HR practices are implemented to improve the performance of their organizations.

http://www.teamjaynorman.com - Is Human Resources a Good Job? Yes If you are looking at the HR field, you’ll certainly ask the question: “is human resources a good job?” In my opinion, the short answer is “yes.” The field is growing, not just in numbers, but also in importance as a business function. The pay levels are competitive, and you have a chance to work closely with people and have an impact on their career development. There is one important factor that you need to research carefully when looking into “is human resources a good job.” Before taking a job, you need to understand the organization’s culture and the level at which its top management values its employees. You definitely do not want to get involved with an employer that does not put a high value on employee development and career growth. If management does not support human capital development, HR most likely will be caught in an uncomfortable position trying to juggle top management priorities and the needs of unhappy rank-in-file employees. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1smuV5rCnds

However, we must move forward and evolve, we have to move to build a career plan. Pick the best opportunities to find a job that matches your real expectations. How to make career? For a career, you must: open up to better horizons for better orientation and fulfilling professional life. To do this, there will be several components: * your training, short or long course: hence will depend on your first position taking; * your integration into the company; * mobility: international career generally follows the expatriation; * your professional assessment will be used to regularly determine your professional skills through assessment interviews; * retraining, therefore change jobs if necessary. Your career development will depend on all these criteria. Define a professional project So you will set yourself a goal. Hence, you will put in place a strategy that will include: * objective = vocational activity you wish to exercise; * action plans: resources and means to identify and mobilize for a successful professional career; - your personal qualities = life skills, - your Knowledge = general culture, - your technical skills = expertise, - your professional and relational network; * a provisional schedule defining your various actions in time. To succeed in your career plan, requires that it will be defined and precise in order to have more chances to succeed. Throughout your career, you can develop your professional project as opportunities may arise, experiences, meetings and/or the job market. Make one or more professional projects avoids the risk of being wrong in orientation and rectifies your choice if necessary. This will also bounce back. So take the time to think, before setting it, so that it is: motivating, achievable and realistic according to your personality and your skills. Finally, build one or more professional projects, that is: - to know what you want, - to present and argue what you want in an interview (hiring or when you ask for a promotion), - be useful in the creation or resumption of activity, or in a career transition. Build a professional project, not inaction, as any well-conducted and targeted action will be decisive and more effective to achieve the realization of a successful professional career. A skills inventory helps organizations and employees understand the skills they have versus the skills they need. While simple enough in concept, as competitive pressures force organizations to optimize the productivity of existing staff and attempt to retain top talent with reduced budgets, a well-defined and readily-available skills framework and inventory is critical to business survival. Different than a talent review, a skills inventory conversation creates a comfortable environment for managers and employees to discuss knowledge, skills and ability with honesty and without fear of reprisal. An honest view of ‘skills reality’ provides the necessary baseline for business planning and development. Soft skills, technical skills, innovative skills, digital skills - understanding the unique combination of skills required across jobs and how employees measure against them allows HR, managers and employees themselves to understand role fit. Do team members have the required skills to drive success? Whether employees need development or have mastered success, the same skills framework provides a plan for growth – a virtual career GPS to guide them. Join us as experts from Cornerstone OnDemand and IBM Talent Management Solutions explain how to facilitate skills inventory conversations separately from talent reviews, develop skill enhancement plans for today and design skill strategies for tomorrow.

When we think of traditional HR functions we typically think about hiring, firing, policies, training and rules/regulations. But in the future of work we need a shift in the role that HR plays in the organization. We need HR to not be like HR. I know we cannot ignore the traditional HR duties, but I think those duties should make up a small percentage of time compared to how much time is spent on driving change in the organization. That is what HR should be focusing on. It should be called Human Transformation instead of Human Resources. Why? Because their role should be centered on helping the organization grow, evolve and move forward. HR should be a part of the company, not because legally it has to be there, but because the organization wants and needs transformational growth. ---------------------------------------------- ABOUT THE FUTURE IN FIVE Will AI take over the world? Today, we’re going to discuss how to become more persuasive during interview situations. By doing so, you can learn how to better interview with recruiters, HR representatives, managers and C-level personnel. Here are some tricks how interviewees can become more persuasive and effective during their job search. Know your audience. In order to persuade an interviewer, you must have a firm grasp on what makes that person tick. For instance, a CEO is going to have a different agenda than a mid-level human resources representative. Therefore, an interview with a human resources employee should be approached completely differently. Where as a CEO will want to hear creative ideas regarding revenue generation tactics, a human resource representative will be more keen on whether a job seeker has the necessary skills to get that job done. In order to prepare for the meeting, sit down and think about what your priorities, concerns and points of interest would be if you were in the interviewee’s position. By formulating a list, you can more effectively persuade your interviewer whether they be a recruiter, HR representative, C-level executive or other. Know the traits that interviewers admire and indirectly show you possess these qualities. You can never convince an interviewer that you are “great” by claiming you are great. It must be done indirectly. To become more persuasive while interviewing, take some time to write down the traits that will make these individuals think you’re great. Interviewees will quickly find out that qualities such as optimism, resiliency, intelligence and confidence will show the interviewer you are a perfect fit for the job. Think about some indirect stories in which you’ve displayed these traits and convey them during the interview. The Fall 2015 UCWHRE Webinar was conducted online from 4:00 pm - 5:15 pm (ET) on October 28, 2015 with a mediated presentation followed by a QA session. Speaker: Dr. Jay Rojewski, Professor, Department of Career and Information Studies (Workforce Education), University of Georgia. Jay is the recipient of the 2015 University Council Meritorious Service Award. Topic: The World Is Changing. Are We Ready? The Emergent Role of Workforce Education in Preparing for the Rapidly Changing Nature and Uncertain Future of Work Précis: Workforce preparation and support — including secondary Career and Technical Education (CTE), postsecondary vocational skills training, and human resources (HR) development and education — provides opportunities for people to be successful participants in the rapidly evolving, global workplace of the 21st century. To accomplish this purpose, people must be equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to fulfill personal interests and goals, develop leadership skills, and become qualified and competent members of the workforce. Workforce and HR educators are challenged with determining the best ways to prepare or support people for work when, in many cases, the types of work those people will perform does not yet exist. To successfully negotiate this scenario, a framework is needed that will shape and guide research and curriculum development within an increasingly volatile and uncertain future. This webinar will describe and explain such a framework. Three key components—career navigation, work ethic, and innovation—are seen as the foundation to support educational and vocational outcomes that will be lasting and durable in the 21st century workplace.
