In which John Green teaches you about the United States Constitution. During and after the American Revolutionary War, the government of the new country operated under the Articles of Confederation. While these Articles got the young nation through its war with England, they weren't of much use when it came to running a country. So, the founding fathers decided try their hand at nation-building, and they created the Constitution of the United States, which you may remember as the one that says We The People at the top. John will tell you how the convention came together, some of the compromises that had to be made to pass this thing, and why it's very lucky that the framers installed a somewhat reasonable process for making changes to the thing. You'll learn about Shays' Rebellion, the Federalist Papers, the elite vs rabble dynamic of the houses of congress, and start to find out just what an anti-federalist is. Whether it’s “Cash in the Attic” or “Pawnstars”, it seems that everyone has something that is worth some amount more than you initially expected. The birth of televised antique shows began with “Antiques Roadshow”, a British television show that aired in 1979. The original concept was a documentary about London Auction House in 1977 and was so successful that the series was borne and the format of the show has remained unchanged to this day. Antiques evaluators travel to various regions to appraise antiques brought in by local people. The hosts evaluate for authenticity, interest and an approximate valuation. Often, an in-depth historical, craft, or artistic context is given of the antique, appealing to people interested in the study of the past or some particular crafts, or certain arts. Such was the success of the show that they have travelled to many other countries and the idea has been imitated around the world. The show has seen many people make an appearance with items they have had little or no idea about, heirlooms, house clearance items, charity shop finds. Some leave disappointed whilst others depart with newly appraised “cash cows”. The most valuable item to ever appear on the show an original 1990s maquette of the Angel of the North sculpture by Antony Gormley, which was valued at £1,000,000. Glassware expert Andy McConnell later valued a collection of chandeliers at seven million pounds, however these were fixtures of the building in which the show was being filmed rather than an item that had been brought in. The two most expensive objects to be sold as a result of being discovered on the show are the 1932 Leica II Luxus camera for $600,000 and The Christofle et Cie Japonisme Jardinere which sold for £668,450. Those who bring in worthless items very rarely make it on to episodes though value is not the only criteria. Those items that come with an interesting story or perhaps reflect the history of the city or county the show is being hosted in will make it on to the show despite their value and the occasional counterfeit object has even been included in order to help educate and inform aspiring and existing antiques dealers, with experts explaining the difference between real and fake items. The collection of evaluators appear regularly or intermittently on the show include experts in Nautical Antiques, Japanese and Chinese Artefacts, Gems and Jewellery, Furniture, Clocks and Watches, Fine Art, Books and Manuscripts, Ceramics and Pottery. Antiques tend to be collectable items that are admired for their age, beauty, rarity, condition, or unique features. The suggested definition of an antique is to objects that are at least 100 years old and tend to show some degree of craftsmanship. The show has produced several specials and spin offs, including, 20th Century Roadshow, which focused on modern collectables. The show is going strong to this day and enjoys international versions in Australia, Canada, Germany and The United States, amongst others. A once popular television show from the 1980s “Jim’ll Fix it” allowed the public to write in requests to the shows host Jimmy Savile who would, in turn, attempt to grant their request. One girl wrote in asking if she could go on to Antiques Roadshow and “accidently” break a seemingly valuable vase. The request was granted and the episode was aired much to the astonishment of the audience but their concerns were quelled when it was explained to them that it was a ruse.

http://www.engvid.com/ Having trouble writing an email? In this video, I will teach you five useful email expressions that will help you to write better emails. I will also teach some email vocabulary such as forward, attachment, and cc, along with some ways to end emails. Is it okay to use cc as a verb? Watch this class and find out! And don't forget to take the quiz: http://www.engvid.com/5-useful-email-expressions/ TRANSCRIPT: Hi. My name is Emma, and today we are going to look at some very useful email expressions. So we're going to look at five in total, and these email expressions can be used in formal email writing. So I've had a lot of students in the past tell me that they spend hours writing very simple, short emails. These expressions will help you to improve your email writing, and to write emails a lot quicker. So let's get started. Okay, so our first expression, very common: "Please find attached _________." Okay? "Please find attached _________." So, what do I mean by "attached"? So, in this case, "attached" is a verb, but "an attachment", which is the same thing but in the noun form, is an added computer file. So it's a computer file we add to an email. So, what are some examples of attachments? Well: "Please find attached my resume." This may be an added computer file. "Please find attached photos from the conference." So it's a very simple phrase. It's very polite. Notice we have "please". "Please find attached _________." And then you just fill in the blank with the computer file you're adding to the email. Okay? So that's our first expression. Now let's look at our second expression. "I've forwarded _________ to you." Or alternatively, we can also say: "I'm forwarding _________ to you." So, first of all, what do I mean by "forward"? Okay? Well, a forward... "Forwarding" is a verb, but it can also be a noun, as in "forward". So a "forward" is when you get an email and you decide you want to resend the email to someone else, so you forward it to them. So, again, it's when you want to resend an email and you send it to a different email address. So that's a forward. So what can I forward? Well, we've used resume already; we can use it again. "I've forwarded..." Maybe you're forwarding someone else's resume, so: "Bill's resume to you.", "I'm forwarding John's email." Maybe there was a good email he sent, so you want to forward it to someone else to you. So that covers forwarding. K, now let's look at some more expressions. Okay, so expression number three: "I've cc'd/cc'ed/copied _________"-and then you write the name of the person-"on this email." So, what does this mean? Well, sometimes maybe you've written an email to someone, but you want someone else to see what you've written. So the email isn't directed to this person; you just want them to know what's going on, so you might cc them or copy them. Okay? So there are three different ways to write this. Remember, in business writing and in formal writing for emails, we really want emails to be short and to the point. We want them to be concise, so that's why you may see "cc'd", not as a word but just with an apostrophe "d", meaning the past participle. "Cc'ed" or "copied". All of these are correct to use. So I could say: "I've cc'd Umar on this email." Meaning the email goes to someone, but Umar can also see the email too. So the email isn't directed to Umar; he can just see it too. So why might we cc someone? Well, to keep a person, so someone, in the loop. So this is another common expression you may hear. When you keep someone in the loop, it means you want them to know what is going on, so you keep them in the loop. Meaning now they know what is happening. Okay? Expression number four: "If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me." So, first of all, what does "hesitate" mean? This might be a word you don't know. It means to wait. So, this can also sound like: "If you have any questions, please don't wait to contact me." "Hesitate" is, of course, more formal and it's the one that is commonly used. So this is a great way to actually end an email. Towards the end, before you say: "Sincerely", or: "Kind regards, Vanessa", or: "Emma", or: "Umar", or: "John", this is a good thing to write before the very end of the email.

http://www.engvid.com The paragraph is the most important unit of a well-written essay. The paragraph has a specific structure and standards that make it effective and enjoyable to read. In this writing lesson we will look at how to construct good paragraphs and improve writing with better flow and clarity. After the lesson, take the quiz: http://www.engvid.com/writing-skills-paragraph/ TRANSCRIPT Hi, welcome again to www.engvid.com. I'm Adam. Today's lesson is about the paragraph. It's a writing lesson, and I want to show people what a paragraph is and how to construct one, what to do, what not to do so you can write very clear, very tight paragraphs. This is especially important for IELTS, TOEFL, SAT students but everybody has to follow the exact same rules. Now before I even begin, I must say that I'm talking mostly about academic writing or even business writing. Creative writing like novels or short stories, anything fiction, you can do anything you want. Only always remember: somebody has to read what you wrote so it has to be clear. But academic essays, for example, certain rules you have to follow; you have to be very careful about them. So let's begin. In terms of like the actual way a paragraph looks: you have to indent or skip a line. So let me just make sure you understand what an indent is. This is an indent, the first line a little bit pushed in or you can make sure you skip a line between paragraphs. But don't do both. If you skip a line, don't indent. Okay? That's the main thing. Now, that's in terms of the way it looks. In terms of content -- and this, I can't stress this enough -- very, very, very important: one central idea in one paragraph. Okay? I've seen many people, I've seen many essays where you start a paragraph talking about one thing, and then you go off on a tangent and talk about something completely unrelated. So for example: if you start a paragraph and you're talking about apples, continue to talk about apples. If you go to oranges, that's maybe okay because you're still talking about fruit. But if you start with apples, go to oranges, go to bananas, and then end up with monkeys in space there's a bit of a problem; the reader has no idea what you're talking about. One paragraph, one central idea. Now, make sure that you tell the reader what this central idea is. This is your thesis statement. Okay? It's a very general sentence. All it does is introduce the topic of the paragraph, nothing else. All the details comes after. So speaking of details, we'll talk about details in detail, but all other ideas, all the other sentences, all your sentences with the details must directly relate back to the main idea. So let's say here is your thesis statement; very general, every sentence after must relate back to that thesis statement. Okay? You can't go off to another idea. Everything must support this, must talk about the same topic. Very important. Okay? How long should your paragraph be? Technically, a paragraph could be one sentence, but in an academic essay that rarely happens. But it could be any length you want, as long as you're still on that one topic, as long as you still have things to write and things to say about that topic, say it. If you have four sentences, fine; if you have 10 sentences, also okay. Again, for IELTS, TOEFL, SAT students: four, five sentences should be your limit. You can't be too long because you don't have time and you're going to start making mistakes. So now, the details. Very important to have lots of details. Why is this topic important to your overall idea of your essay? Not only tell me what is the topic, what is the thesis statement of the paragraph, make sure you explain to me why this is important to the general idea of the essay. Give me your reasons. Now, why is it important? And then reasons, why you think what you're saying supports this idea. Examples, always use examples because giving me the reasons is okay; examples make me see exactly what you're trying to say. Very easy for me to understand what you're trying to say. Now, in terms of flow, in terms of the way the reader can approach the paragraph, you have to have bridges. What is, what do bridges mean? Basically, when you have one idea in this sentence, you must connect it to the next sentence, you must connect it to the next sentence. Every sentence must have a link to the next sentence. This creates flow, makes it much easier to read and understand, and it keeps you on the one topic. Now, key terms. If you're talking about something specific and you have to use a key term, use it as many times as you need to. Otherwise, avoid repetition. Try not to use the same word more than once in one paragraph. Okay? For example: if you're using the word "moreover" in the paragraph, don't use it, don't use "moreover" again -- use "in addition to", use "furthermore", "another", etc. Try to avoid using one word more than once, especially in the same paragraph.

Does your job involve speaking with customers in English? If you want to speak clearly and politely to customers, this lesson is for you! You'll hear a model conversation full of polite expressions you can use at work. I'll teach you the correct way to greet customers, and how to ask common questions that come up in customer service and sales jobs in call centers. This is a great way to improve your job performance or to prepare for a call center interview. I'll also teach you a secret that all the top customer service agents know. Beyond call center training, this lesson will help anyone who wants to communicate more professionally and politely in the workplace. http://www.engvid.com/learn-english-for-call-centers-and-customer-service-jobs/ TRANSCRIPT Hi. I'm Rebecca from engVid. Being polite is always important, but it's especially important if you have a job in a call centre or in any customer service oriented position. So, let's look at what it sounds like when we meet a polite employee and a rude employee, whether it's on the phone or in person. But this dialogue that we're going to go through is actually on the phone. So, let's listen. Okay, so we have here two employees, Rude Robert and Polite Patricia, and they speak very differently. So let's listen to Robert. Robert answers the phone, and he says; "Yes? Huh?" Patricia says: "Hello. Good morning." Robert goes on: "What do you want?" Patricia says: "May I help you? How can I assist you?" Then Robert says: "Wait a minute." Patricia says: "Just a moment, please." Then Robert can't hear, so he says: "What? Huh? Can't hear you." Patricia says: "I'm afraid I didn't hear what you said. Could you speak a little louder, please?" Now, in this case, we were listening to both people. Right? Let's just go and listen to Robert by himself and see what he sounds like. "Yes. Huh? What do you want? Wait a minute. What? Huh? Can't hear you." Now let's listen to Patricia. "Hello. Good morning. May I help you? How can I assist you? Just a moment, please. I'm afraid I didn't hear what you said. Could you speak a little louder, please?" Who would you rather meet on the phone? Let's continue this dialogue. And Robert continues. Let's listen in. "What else? Is that it?" Patricia says: "Will there be anything else? Will that be all? Is there anything else I can help you with today?" Robert says: "Gimme yer email." Now, you see, I wrote here: "Gimme your email." Okay? That is not proper English; that is not correct English. Don't write like that. But I wrote it like that because when people speak really fast and they speak very casually and very, very, very informally, then it sounds like that. But it's only proper in certain informal situations with your friends or something like that; not in the workplace. Okay? And certainly not in a customer service kind of position. So, you will see some things like that here, but don't try to talk like that or write like that if you have a customer service job. So, Robert says: "Gimme your email." Patricia says: "May I have your email please?" Robert says: "How many boxes do ya want?" Patricia says: "How many boxes would you like?" Now, that's something to really pay attention to. When we change: "Do you want" to "Would you like", it makes a world of difference. "Would you like" is very, very polite, and "Do you want" is very ordinary. So make sure that you use: "Would you like", even if you don't have a customer service job. It's just a much more polite way of speaking. Let's continue. So, Robert says: "How do you wanna pay?" And Patricia says: "How would you like to pay?" Again, we see: "Do you want" or "wanna" and "Would you like". Right? "How will you be paying today?" And Robert says: "Okay. Bye!" And Patricia says: "Thank you very much. Have a nice day. Now, did you notice that when I was reading Patricia's part, I was smiling; when I was reading Robert's part, I wasn't smiling? So, most call centres and customer service positions train their employees to smile while they're speaking, because they say that we can hear your smile. All right? And it's true. And if you go back and listen to this video, you might hear my smile even if you're not looking at the video. So try that yourself. If you want to sound friendlier, if you want to sound more polite, if you want to sound warmer - then smile, especially when you're on the phone. And even though people can't see you, they can hear your smile and your warmth. Okay? So, keep these points in mind. They can make or break your career. All right? If you'd like to do some practice on this, please go to our website: www.engvid.com. Thanks very much for watching. Bye for now.

SHAZAM! - Only in theaters April 2019 ----- http://ShazamMovie.com https://www.facebook.com/ShazamMovie/ https://twitter.com/ShazamMovie/ https://www.instagram.com/ShazamMovie/ ---- David F. Sandberg (“Annabelle: Creation”) directs New Line Cinema’s “Shazam!,” the origin story that stars Zachary Levi (TV’s “Chuck”) as the titular DC Super Hero, along with Asher Angel (TV’s “Andi Mack”) as Billy Batson, and Mark Strong (the “Kingsman” movies) in the role of Super-Villain Dr. Thaddeus Sivana. Peter Safran (“Aquaman,” “The Conjuring” and “Annabelle” films) serves as the film’s producer. We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard. Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Strong). “Shazam!” also stars Jack Dylan Grazer (“IT”) as Billy’s best friend and ultimate superhero enthusiast, Freddy, part of the foster family that includes Mary, played by Grace Fulton (“Annabelle: Creation”); Darla, played by Faithe Herman (TV’s “This is Us”); Eugene, played by Ian Chen (TV’s “Fresh Off the Boat”); and Pedro, played by Jovan Armand (TV’s “Hawaii Five-O”). Cooper Andrews (TV’s “The Walking Dead”) and Marta Milans (TV’s “Killer Women”) play foster parents Victor and Rosa Vasquez, with Oscar nominee Djimon Hounsou (“Blood Diamond”) as the Wizard. Firmly set in the DC universe but with his own distinctly fun, family-centric tone, the screenplay is by Henry Gayden, story by Gayden and Darren Lemke. Shazam was created by Bill Parker and C.C. Beck. Christopher Godsick, Jeffrey Chernov, Dwayne Johnson, Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia serve as executive producers. Sandberg’s creative team includes his “Annabelle: Creation” director of photography Maxime Alexandre, production designer Jennifer Spence, editor Michel Aller and costume designer Leah Butler. A New Line Cinema production, “Shazam!” is set for release on April 5, 2019. It will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

How to design a successful logo? How to build a famous brand for your business? Some of the most well-known logos in the world were purposefully designed to indicate something much more than simple beauty. In fact, it seems that in some cases, every line, curve, and color has meaning behind it. Adidas, Apple, BMW, Coca-Cola, Toyota… We see these famous brands everywhere but never consider what their logos exactly mean. Curious to know the secret? Watch the 16 famous logos with a hidden meaning you've never noticed. #logomeaning #logosecret # Hyundai 0:33 The letter ’Н’ symbolizes two people – a client and a representative of the company – shaking hands. Adidas 0:52 The current logo is three stripes at an angle which together form a triangle. This symbolizes a mountain, which in turn represents the challenges that all sportsmen have to overcome day after day. Apple 1:21 Rob Janoff, the designer who came up with the world-famous Apple company logo, explained his idea in one of his interviews. He bought a bag of apples, placed them in a bowl, and spent time drawing them for a week, trying to break the image down into something simple. Vaio 1:58 The first two letters of the Vaio logo symbolize an analogue wave. The last two are similar to the numbers 1 and 0 — that is, symbols of a digital signal. Amazon 2:14 The orange arrow is similar to a smile because the company wants its customers to be satisfied. The arrow is also stretched between the letters ’A’ and ’Z’, in a hint that the company sells absolutely every product you can imagine. Baskin Robbins 2:40 The pink-colored parts of the "BR" section make up the number 31, which is how many ice cream flavors Baskin Robbins used to famously sell. Toyota 2:56 The logo represents a stylized image of a needle eye with a thread passing through it. This is a hint at the company’s past – they used to produce weaving machines. Continental 3:28 Continental, a famous car tire producer, has a logo in which the first two letters depict a car wheel. Formula 1 3:41 If you look carefully at the white space between the letter ’F’ and the red stripes, you can see the number 1. Pinterest 3:59 On Pinterest, people collect images they like from across the Internet and ’pin’ them to their online boards. That’s why the image of a pin is hidden in the letter P. Beats 4:17 Beats, an audio equipment producer based in the USA, uses a logo in which the letter ’B’ looks like headphones on a person’s head. Toblerone 4:32 The famous chocolate company based in Bern, Switzerland, has a silhouette of a bear in its logo. That's because Bern is sometimes called a city of bears. BMW 4:55 The logo is simply a part of the Bavarian flag, the area of Germany where the company originated. LG 5:18 The logo is a stylized image of a person’s face. According to the company, this represents its aspiration to have human relations with their customers. Evernote 5:34 The corner of the elephant’s ear is folded over in a similar way how people fold the corner of a page to make notes. Coca-Cola 5:57 In the space between the letters ’O’ and ’L’, you can see the Danish flag. It’s purely a coincidence. Nevertheless, Coca-Cola has used this as part of its marketing campaigns in the Scandinavian country. If you’ve enjoyed this video, hit that thumbs up button! #edc #bushcraft #outdoors The UK Knife laws are currently being updated and there are some significant changes coming. It's also worth anybody carrying a knife as a tool for outdoor activities being aware of what they carry, where and how. The first section of the video deals with the UK knife laws in a very basic way, and the second part is Richard Prideaux's opinion of them. It is down to the individual to ensure that they are aware of the UK knife laws, and that they do their own research (not just listening to a hairy man on an internet video). https://www.gov.uk/buying-carrying-knives https://www.police.uk/crime-prevention-advice/possession-of-weapons/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knife_legislation#United_Kingdom ***************************** Original Outdoors is an established outdoor skills training business based in the U.K. - specialising in wilderness skills, bushcraft, foraging, mountain safety, survival skills and private events. Trapped in a rom-com like…😱 Watch the new trailer for #IsntItRomantic, only in theaters February 13! http://www.facebook.com/IsntItRomantic http://twitter.com/IsntItRomantic http://www.instagram.com/isntitromantic http://www.isntitromantic.com From New Line Cinema comes the romantic comedy “Isn’t It Romantic,” starring Rebel Wilson (“How to Be Single,” the “Pitch Perfect” films), Liam Hemsworth (the “Hunger Games” films), Adam Devine (“The Intern,” the “Pitch Perfect” films) and Priyanka Chopra (“Quantico,” “Baywatch”), under the direction of Todd Strauss-Schulson (“A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas,” “The Final Girls”). New York City architect Natalie works hard to get noticed at her job but is more likely to be asked to deliver coffee and bagels than to design the city’s next skyscraper. And if things weren’t bad enough, Natalie, a lifelong cynic when it comes to love, has an encounter with a mugger that renders her unconscious, waking to discover that her life has suddenly become her worst nightmare—a romantic comedy—and she is the leading lady. Wilson stars as Natalie, alongside Liam Hemsworth as Blake, a handsome client; Adam Devine as her earnest best friend, Josh; and Priyanka Chopra as yoga ambassador Isabella. Strauss-Schulson directs from a screenplay by Erin Cardillo and Dana Fox & Katie Silberman. Todd Garner (“Paul Blart: Mall Cop,” “Tag”), Gina Matthews and Grant Scharbo (“13 Going on 30,” “What Women Want”) are producing, with Marty Ewing (“IT,” “The Accountant”) and Rebel Wilson executive producing. Collaborating with Strauss-Schulson behind the scenes are director of photography Simon Duggan (“The Great Gatsby,” “Hacksaw Ridge”), production designer Sharon Seymour (“Argo,” “The Town”), editor Andrew Marcus (“Begin Again,” “Sing Street”), and costume designer Leah Katznelson (“How to Be Single,” “Sleeping with Other People”). New Line Cinema presents, in association with Bron Creative, a Broken Road/Little Engine Production, “Isn’t It Romantic.” Slated for release on February 13, 2019, and will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company. The film has been rated PG-13.
