10 Fun Facts About America Even Americans Don't Know

11:37
How much do you know about the U.S.? Were you aware that the Library of Congress could have a record of some of your social media posts? Let’s see which of these 10 little-known facts about the United States will manage to surprise you the most! For example, in fact, there were actually 6 American flags placed on the moon during the Apollo landings. It’s unknown whether all those flags are still standing, but the ones that remain have most likely been bleached completely white, from exposure to radiation from the sun. Or what do you think America’s favorite drink is? Go ahead and guess down in the comments! Tea, coffee, soda, juice? If you think soda, you wouldn’t be entirely wrong since it was the top beverage choice for Americans until recently. Now, its crown has passed to…bottled water! TIMESTAMPS: Out-of-this-world flag 1:05 Americans on the moon 2:03 The greatest of the Great Lakes 2:52 The most visited museums in America 3:49 America’s favorite drink 5:03 The Library of Congress archives 6:05 “Hollywoodland” 7:09 Halloween craze 8:04 The Empire State Building lightning strikes 9:08 The Statue of Liberty 10:05 Music by Epidemic Sound https://www.epidemicsound.com/ SUMMARY: - In the U.S., you can see the Star-Spangled Banner waving in the wind at fast food joints, standing tall in people’s yards or attached to their houses, and printed on all kinds of stuff like clothing, pillows, and coffee mugs. - If Armstrong was the first, not many people know that the last man to walk the moon was Apollo 17 Commander Eugene Cernan. - With a surface area of about 31,700 square miles, this lake is about the size of South Carolina! And with a volume of 2,900 cubic miles, Lake Superior is big enough to cover the entirety of North and South America in a foot of water. - Both museums saw around 7 million visitors in 2017, making them tied for the #3 spot on the list of the world’s most visited museums. - In 2016, Americans consumed 88.8 gallons of coffee per capita! So, now you know why your favorite coffee shop is always so crowded! - The Library of Congress is the largest library in the world, holding over 167 million items like rare books, manuscripts, photographs, recordings, and plenty of other important and historic materials. - But when it was installed back in 1923, this iconic sign actually read “Hollywoodland” instead of “Hollywood.” It was originally meant to be a real-estate ad for an upscale district that was only supposed to stand for about a year and a half. - According to the National Retail Federation, more than 175 million Americans are estimated to participate in the holiday in 2018 and will spend around $9 billion. - The tallest building in America is the One World Trade Center at 1,776 feet. But for a long time, from 1931 to 1972, it was the 1,250-foot-tall Empire State Building that held this title. - A lesser known fact is that Lady Liberty looked quite different when she first arrived in New York from Paris. When the copper statue was completed and brought to America in 1886, it was more like the color of a penny. 12 Facts That'll Change Your Perception of Time Forever

13:31
What do you know about ur planet? Many things seem to have existed forever, and certain well-known people are associated with a specific period of time. But have you ever really sat down and considered the relationship between different events in correlation with each other? You’d be surprised how your perception of time really fools you! By the way, we’ve hidden 3 tiny light bulbs in this video. Can you find them all? If you’re the first one to find them and write the time they appear in the comments, you will get a mention from us in one of our next videos! Good luck, and let’s begin! TIMESTAMPS When the first Star Wars was released, the guillotine was still being used in France. 1:02 People born at the same moment can celebrate their birthdays on different days. 1:46 Martin Luther King Jr., Anne Frank, and Christopher Plummer were all born in the same year. 3:15 Cleopatra lived closer to the founding of McDonalds than to the building of the Great Pyramids. 4:14 Some of the whales that lived when Moby-Dick was written are still alive today. 4:58 A plane from New Zealand traveled in time. 5:40 The grandchildren of US President John Tyler, who was born in the 18th century, are still alive. 6:22 Warner Bros. Studios appeared when the Ottoman Empire still existed. 7:18 Throughout the life of Queen Elizabeth II, there have been 16 different US presidents. 8:22 Tiffany & Co. jewelry company is older than Italy. 8:44 If you could fit the entire history of Earth into 1 year, humans would appear at 11:35PM on December 31. 9:59 We are now closer to 2033 than 2000. 12:24 SUMMARY - The first Star Wars movie was released on May 25, 1977. After that, France officially abolished the use of the guillotine along with the death penalty 1981! - For example, it's still morning in the US but already the next day in Australia. Anyone who has flown westward over long distances especially gets what we’re saying. You’re travelling for hours and hours but, according to the local time, you arrive to your destination earlier than when you had left! - The famous American preacher and 1960’s civil rights leader was born in the same year as Anne Frank, a brave little Jewish teenager. - By the time Cleopatra was born in 69 B.C., the Great Pyramid of Giza had already been around for 2,471 years! - Herman Melville wrote Moby-Dick in 1851. In his book, the author described a gigantic white whale infamous for its huge size and the destruction it caused to ships. And while such whales have a lifespan of about 50-60 years, the Bowhead whale can live for as long as 200 years and more! - What happened was a Hawaiian plane took off from Auckland at 12:05AM on January 1, 2018. The passengers on the plane were happy to celebrate the New Year a second time because the plane landed in Honolulu at 10:16AM local time on December 31, 2017. - John Tyler was born in 1790; that’s over 200 years ago! Yet 2 of his grandchildren, Lyon Gardiner Tyler Junior and Harisson Raffin Tyler, are still alive. Yes, grandchildren! - In 1903 the Warner brothers opened their first movie theater called the Cascade. Their parents were originally from the Russian Empire, and out of 12 children in the family, it was actually just Harry, Albert, Sam, and Jack that started the famous company. - Elizabeth II was born in 1926 when Calvin Coolidge was President of the US. Since then, there have been 15 successors. - The Italy we know today, aka the Italian Republic, was established in 1861, and Charles Lewis Tiffany and John Young opened their first store on Broadway in 1837. But you probably wouldn’t have recognized the company in its early years. - Let's imagine the Earth’s 4.54 billion-year history is squished into one calendar year. If you crunch the numbers, you’ll see that 1 second would equal 144 years! - When you hear "10 years ago," you still think of the '90s, not the 2000s, don't you? Isn’t it crazy how so many people are guilty of this? Well, here’s a friendly reminder: it’s been 18 years since the year 2000 (and 28 since 1990!) Popularly painted as gleeful dispensers of death and torture, the truth seems to be that many executioners throughout this period usually treated the occupation with a certain reverence and exhibited an extreme dedication to duty. Beyond trying to minimize the suffering of those slated to be executed, this was, among other reasons we’ll get into, because it would often mean the life of the executioner if they ever botched an execution or otherwise weren’t extremely professional in carrying out their job. Playing the Victim | Historical Revisionism and Japan

23:53
Nazi Germany always seems to be our go-to villain whenever we depict World War 2, despite the fact that Imperial Japan killed just as many people. Japan also seems to be portrayed as a victim of the war rather than one of the main aggressors. Why is that? 30 Years of God Game History | Populous, Dungeon Keeper, Black & White, Spore and more

01:44:22
Let’s take a journey through time, from the beeps and bloops of the 1980’s to the modern day in PLAYING GOD -- a documentary covering 30 years of god simulation games. From industry legends like Peter Molyneux and Will Wright, to independent or even solo games, the God Game has been a beloved but underappreciated genre that deserves a thorough exploration. This is my 2nd feature-length video and my longest and most ambitious production to date, so I hope you enjoy the video as much as I did making it! 10 Funniest Baseball First Pitches

10:16
Subscribe to TheSportster http://goo.gl/mZKUfd For copyright matters please contact us at: [email protected] Baseball first pitches are a silly thing. They mean nothing, are there just for show and you just know that 99 percent of the time the person throwing it is going to look like a complete idiot. When signing up to take on this gig, you think that these people would practice heavily to avoid being featured on a funny sports bloopers compilation. Apparently not though as time after time celebrities, politicians, animals and freaking fictional characters (yup Darth Vader is on this list, didn’t see that one coming on a sports channel did ya?) make fools of themselves trying to pitch a baseball. The mistakes can often be repeated in these pitches. People like Michael Jordan, 50 Cent and Snoop Dogg release their balls too early and that causes the ball to go careening off to the side of the plate like a swerving car. Other times people like Carly Rae Jepsen will release the ball too late so that it hits the dirt so fast you may not even see it. But the worst of the worst have to be the ones who just didn’t care. The ones who didn’t put one iota of thought into their throw and disrespecting the sacred tradition of baseball ceremonial first pitches. Yes we’re looking at you Mariah Carey with your ridiculous high heels to throw a baseball in Japan. How dare you. With all that out of the way, here are the 15 funniest first pitches in Baseball history. Enjoy! For more videos and articles visit: http://www.TheSportster.com

It was beat by the Lincoln Cathedral in the UK in 1311, which was topped by the Washington Monument, then the Eiffel Tower, and then the Chrysler Building in 1929. North America saw the next wave of world-record skyscrapers, with the Empire State Building, the World Trade Center, and the Sears Tower. Then Asia had their turn with the Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur, then the Taipei 101 Building. The next and current tallest building is the Burj Khalifa, but it may soon be topped by the Jeddah Tower in Saudi Arabia, or the Burj Mubarak al-Kabir in Kuwait, or the Dubai Creek Tower, solidifying the Middle East as the current epicenter of supertall buildings in the world. Designs for vertical cities of the future include Ultima Tower, the Tokyo Sky Mile Tower, and the Shimizu Mega City Pyramid. But the tallest building ever designed is the X-Seed 4000 building which would stretch 4 kilometers into the sky and house up to a million people. 04:31
In case you forgot the horrible crimes your favorite stars committed! Subscribe: https://goo.gl/Hnoaw3 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Description: Celebrities rarely fail to make headlines, and while some boast them as humanitarian do-gooders, others show a side of them we’d probably rather turn a blind eye to. Like it or not, some of our favourite stars have fallen guilty to crimes that are less than glamorous. From violent assaults to drug use, from attempted to convicted murders, some of our most beloved movie, television, sports and reality stars have made some criminally bad decisions. Celebrities are humans just like us, so it’s not surprising that they’ve had some slip ups, but when you’re always in the limelight, those mistakes can put a major damper on your career. While some committed crimes before their golden years, others fell short when their stars were shining. And of course, there are those who went off the deep end after their fame hit its peak. But no matter the timing, celebrities have always managed to get away with shortened sentences or dismissed cases, even for the most heinous crimes. If any one can get away with murder, it is indeed our dear celebs. In today’s video we take a look back at 10 celebrities that you may not remember have committed unforgivable crimes. Or perhaps you just erased it from your memory. But no one’s perfect, and as this list shows, especially not celebs. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Our Social Media: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TheTalko Twitter: https://twitter.com/thetalko Instagram: https://instagram.com/the_talko ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Featuring: Mark Wahlberg Jay Z Matthew Broderick Khloe Kardashian Oscar Pistorius Jian Ghomeshi Robert Downey Jr. Chris Brown Brandy Norwood Will Smith ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- For more videos and articles visit: http://www.thetalko.com/ TheTalko is everything you ever wanted to know about fashion, celebrity lifestyle, fitness, health, relationships and the most interesting random occurrences in 5 minutes or less. If you give them any thought at all, you probably associate them with sewers, cargo ships and maybe animated movies about animals that want to become French chefs. But for almost 200 years, tens of millions of rats have played a central role in science, performing a job they did not volunteer for, and one that almost always results in a premature death. Here at SciShow we explore the big questions like, "Why the rat?". Like SciShow? Want to help support us, and also get things to put on your walls, cover your torso and hold your liquids? Twin Strangers - Unrelated Identical People

04:02
Amazing stories of twin strangers who found each other randomly or through the Internet! Subscribe: https://goo.gl/Hnoaw3 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Description: Have you ever been in a conversation with someone and they mention, “You look so familiar. Have we met before?” Maybe you have been walking down the street, watching TV or flipping through a magazine and you spot someone makes you do a double take because they look similar to you. Like really similar. You may have just found your doppelgänger. A doppelgänger is an apparition or double of a living person. A person you have never met and who is not related, but looks exactly like you. According to researchers, the chances of finding your real-life double are very slim. A PhD student at the University of Adelaide School of Medicine, Teghan Lucas, conducted a study using a combination of facial metrics and found that the probability of finding two faces in the same measurements in the general population was less than one in a trillion. However, it is reported that each person has an average of seven people in the world that could be their unrelated twin. Posts on social media of people coincidentally running into their doppelgänger have received a large amount of attention. Just like Neil Douglas who met his spitting image mistakenly sitting in the plane seat he was assigned on a flight to Ireland. Social media has also served as a convenient source for those around the globe to come across someone with similar features. This has snowballed into sites like Instagram, Facebook and YouTube being used intentionally for people seeking their doubles. Projects like Irish TV host Niamh Geaney’s “Twin Strangers” used the power of the interwebs to seek her closest match to win a month-long challenge between her and her friends. This project invited people around the globe, who thought they looked similar to the three friends, to submit their photos. Niamh came across two women who shared strikingly similar characteristics to her own. They had things like the same hair color, smile and eye shape. She documented meeting her first lookalike and said, “Karen probably looks more like me than my sisters do.” The “Twin Strangers” project became a globally viral sensation in a very short period of time. People seemed to be fascinated with the idea that there was someone out there that wasn’t genetically related at all but looked very similar to them. Niamh took notice of how the popular the video had become and made TwinStrangers.com to help others find their doppelgänger anywhere in the world. In fact, they have documented a few stories of these lookalike matches that have been made on the site. Have you ever been interested in finding your own doppelgänger? In this video, we will share the stories of a handful of strangers who met their unrelated twin. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Our Social Media: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TheTalko Twitter: https://twitter.com/thetalko Instagram: https://instagram.com/the_talko ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Featuring: Amanda Fisher & Meredith Pond Ciara Murphy & Cordelia Roberts Sophie Robehmed & Lauren Hatcher Niamh Geaney & Karen Branigan Jennifer & Ambra Neil Richardson & John Jemison Robert Stirling & Neil Douglas ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- For more videos and articles visit: http://www.thetalko.com/ TheTalko is everything you ever wanted to know about fashion, celebrity lifestyle, fitness, health, relationships and the most interesting random occurrences in 5 minutes or less. How To Make a 3 Penny Battery

04:11
Is there energy hidden inside your pocket change? Convert pennies into make-shift batteries that can drive small current devices like LED's and calculators. Many people have asked how long the green LED stayed on. Surprisingly, it was bright for 2-1/2 weeks before finally fizzling out! The federal law states that there are exceptions made for use as "educational, amusement, novelty, jewelry, and similar purposes as long as the volumes treated and the nature of the treatment make it clear that such treatment is not intended as a means by which to profit solely from the value of the metal content of the coins." For more information, see: https://www.federalregister.gov/articles/2007/04/16/E7-7088/prohibition-on-the-exportation-melting-or-treatment-of-5-cent-and-one-cent-coins This is a wet-cell battery. Pennies newer than 1982 are nearly 98% Zinc. The redox reaction between the copper and zinc metals allow electrons to flow and each cell provides around 0.6 volts of electric potential. Here is how to light up an LED and power a calculator using some loose pocket change! I found this link that helps explain the reaction and why it works: http://www.science.uwaterloo.ca/~cchieh/cact/c123/battery.html Basically, a galvanic cell consists of at least two half cells, a reduction cell and an oxidation cell. Chemical reactions in the two half cells provide the electrons for the galvanic cell operations. Copper ions gain electrons (reduced) while zinc ions give them up (oxidized). = (redox) An electrolyte like salt water or vinegar helps get the metals into ions. Electrons flow through the electric conductors connecting the electrodes, as ions flow through the salt bridge. The overall reaction of the galvanic cell is: Zn + Cu2+ = Zn2+ + Cu

Burning Stuff With 2000ºF Solar Power!!

03:16
Melt a stack of pennies, burst a glass bottle, damage various food items, and incinerate wood using the power of the Sun! This 4 foot magnifying lens will melt concrete, and nearly anything else that gets in its way. Some quick links to a few of the materials I used: [✓] Small Fresnel Lens: http://amzn.to/2cEa9Sy [✓] Apple beer: http://amzn.to/2cVKC3C [✓] Bottle Top Stoppers: http://amzn.to/2cEcJrS For other project videos, check out http://www.thekingofrandom.com Endcard Links: Solar Scorcher: https://goo.gl/lbDdce Scorcher Frame: https://goo.gl/OFCaEr Water Explodes: http://bit.ly/H2OExplode Rocket Fuel: https://goo.gl/eOTH8Q See What Else I’m Up To: Instagram: https://goo.gl/C0Q1YU Facebook: http://bit.ly/FBTheKingOfRandom Pinterest: http://bit.ly/pingrant Business Inquiries: For business and sponsorship inquiries please contact us directly: http://www.youtube.com/thekingofrandom/about WARNING: This project should not be attempted without adult supervision and adequate training. Misuse, or careless use, of tools or projects may result in serious injury property damage, or death. Concentrated solar energy can start fires and cause personal and property damage. Concentrated UV radiation may cause blindness. Do not look directly at focal point without eye protection like welding goggles. Burning of metals like zinc, may release toxic gasses that can be harmful if inhaled. Extreme caution is advised. Use of this video content is at your own risk. Music By: http://www.danosongs.com (Crazy from the message) Project Inspired By: This "Solar Scorcher" project was originally inspired by Dan Rojas of GreenPowerScience: http://youtu.be/JkgFk15uBxw (Fresnel Lens Giant "Big Daddy") Project History & More Info: LEGALITIES: Some people have asked about the legality of treating pennies in this manner. The federal law states that there are exceptions made for use as "educational, amusement, novelty, jewelry, and similar purposes as long as the volumes treated and the nature of the treatment make it clear that such treatment is not intended as a means by which to profit solely from the value of the metal content of the coins." Putting that statement to the test with various items was the purpose of this project. I'm impressed at the results, and excited at the power available through this Fresnel lens that I've nicknamed my "Solar Scorcher". In the summer, the sunlight at this spot is around 2000ºF, maybe more. Enough to melt spots of concrete into glowing orange liquid. I'm curious to see what I can do with all this heat so I've filled a glass bottle with water and I'll punch a hole in the cap. It's incredible to see that the instant I focus my lens on the bottle, it starts smoking. Just a few moments later this water is so hot it's boiling, and I'm a little nervous the bottle might blow. Yep, there it goes. I'll try burning a penny, and, wow, it melted. How about a stack of pennies? Yep, they're nothing but liquid metal now, and I'm thinking that slag in the mixture must be what's left of the copper coating. It's only taking about 4 seconds to melt these. Well, I'm convinced there's an insane amount of power behind these lenses. If you'd like to see where I got this one, take a look at my video on how I hacked it out of an old TV. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XFw7U7V1Hok This one boiled water in less than a minute, welded a nickel to concrete, and instantly torched any piece of wood in it's way. It was brought to my attention that Kipkay did a project like a couple of years ago that he called the "Solar Death Ray". Check out his awesome video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sAT6IRBK_uE
