Building Real Time BI Systems with Kafka, Spark & Kudu: Spark Summit East talk by Ruhollah Farchtchi

30:06
One of the key challenges in working with real-time and streaming data is that the data format for capturing data is not necessarily the optimal format for ad hoc analytic queries. For example, Avro is a convenient and popular serialization service that is great for initially bringing data into HDFS. Avro has native integration with Flume and other tools that make it a good choice for landing data in Hadoop. But columnar file formats, such as Parquet and ORC, are much better optimized for ad hoc queries that aggregate over large number of similar rows.

HOW BIG DATA CAN PROVIDE REAL TIME BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE

42:06
How Big Data can Provide Real Time Business Intelligence Slides are here http://www.slideshare.net/InfiniGraph/infini-graph-sigbigdatarealtimebi021813 SVForum Business Intelligence SIG in February Tuesday, February 19, 2013 6:30PM - 9:00PM SAP - Baltic/Caribbean Rooms in Building 2 3412 Hillview Avenue Palo Alto, CA 94304 There is no way to get around it, Big Data is here to stay and businesses want to tap it. Join us to hear how two leading companies, Metamarkets and Infinigraph, create solutions to get at this critical information. Learn what approaches they use and how they see the direction then participate in an exciting panel discussion. Take a look at the abstracts of their presentation following: Abstract Metamarkets: Traditional analytic solutions are designed to support back-office groups (who, in turn support business users); while speed and volume are important the data itself is not relevant for the immediate moment. Druid fills a gap within the big-data analytics space that coincides with the broadening requirement to provide valuable, dynamic insight directly to decision makers for events as they occur. Reading into this statement exposes a set of requirements based on how data consumption has evolved -- all of which impact design, key features and architecture of the database. It's important to note Druid complements existing analytics solutions serving a specific set of requirements and all within the framework of a cloud oriented system: • ability to query on ingesting data • flexible multidimensional querying and at consistently low latencies • front-office production system In this talk, we'll expose key features and facets of the Druid architecture that make this possible. Abstract: Infinigraph Real-time Data in a Big Data World The explosion of data isn't new it's just coming in from more sources and the same problems exist. Creating innovative ways to make the data useful and more import dive business value. Using real -- time technologies give business more advantages to harness events when they happen. The use of real time and batch processing is a business driving requirement not technology. However, with real time comes real time problems where intelligence and adaptive data management is require. Real time means near to zero latency and access to information whenever it is required. The speed of today's processing systems has allowed typical data warehousing to work in real-time. The result is real-time business intelligence. Business transactions as they occur are fed to a real-time BI system that maintains the current state of the enterprise. The RTBI system not only supports the classic strategic functions of data warehousing for deriving information and knowledge from past enterprise activity, but it also provides real-time tactical support to drive enterprise actions that react immediately to events as they occur. As such, it replaces both the classic data warehouse and the enterprise application integration (EAI) functions. Such event-driven processing is a basic tenet of real-time business intelligence. In this context, "real-time" means a range from milliseconds to a few seconds (5s) after the business event has occurred. While traditional BI presents historical data for manual analysis, RTBI compares current business events with historical patterns to detect problems or opportunities automatically. This automated analysis capability enables corrective actions to be initiated and/or business rules to be adjusted to optimize business processes. RTBI is an approach in which up-to-a-minute data is analyzed, either directly from operational sources or feeding business transactions into a real time data warehouse and Business Intelligence system.

Modern Data Warehousing: The New Approach to Azure BI with Simon Whiteley

01:23:55
Technology changes quickly – patterns and approaches less so. As people move towards the cloud, there are clear benefits of adopting a distributed cloud architecture employing a range of disparate tools. As this evolves, the patterns that were designed for single box solutions should be challenged. This session will take you through the pattern known as the Lambda architecture, a reference pattern for building data analytics systems that can handle any combination of data velocity, variety and volume. The session will outline the set of tools and integration points that can underpin the approach. Do you need to build out real-time reporting systems? Or crunch through petabytes of data? Or perhaps you are adopting a cloud architecture and simply want to make sure it can handle anything the future throws at it? Whether you’re dealing with Gigabytes or Petabyes, Daily Loads or Data Streaming – This session is for you. We will follow the movement of data through batch and speed layers via Azure Data Lake Store & Analytics, Data Factory, SQL Datawarehouse and Streaming Analytics, before looking briefly at Azure Analysis Services with PowerBI. This is a largely theory-based session to prime you for the future. Business Intelligence -- Why we need intelligent systems

01:55
The rate of increase of complexity in everyday life is astonishing. The sum total of human knowledge doubles every two to four years -- the estimates vary, but the time-frames are small whoever does the research. Whether it is air traffic control or financial markets trading -- both hugely intense processes which still involve the human brain at the core -- our brains, our mental capacity and processing did not evolve to deal with the huge volumes of knowledge and complex problems that daily life delivers us in the twenty first century. There are plenty of other examples. We have seen financial meltdowns, we have seen airplane disasters and we have seen large scale terrorist attacks. Most were foreseeable, manageable or preventable, but we didn't have the systems to do that. The human brain and the organizational and systems structures could not do the job. We can systematize the processes, but our decision support approaches are essentially linear, when complexity is developing logarithmically. We cannot build infrastructure and grow people to deal with the problem -- Malthus taught us that. Neither can we afford these solutions -- the law of diminishing returns illustrates that only too well. Moore's law says that computer power doubles every eighteen months, and there's no sign of that slowing. So, how can we harness that huge growth in power to deal with the exponential growth in the complexity of daily life? Companies like Saffron Technology are researching potential solutions with new-model artificial intelligence approaches. These are based on combining structured and unstructured data to build an associative memory base. When a learning core has access to these memories and is fed with realtime data, then predictive analytics can use that to deal with novel situations and manage complexity. As the century progresses, the human brain will retain overall control, we hope, but it is intelligent systems that will give us the leverage to manage complexity. OW2con 2011 Real Time BI is Open and Anywhere with SpagoBI, Alessandra Toninelli PART 1

10:19
Speaker: Alessandra Toninelli, SpagoBI Consultant Engineering Group, Italy Abstract: Real time business intelligence (RT BI) allows the analysis of business data as soon as they occur. Differently from traditional BI systems, where data are retrieved and analyzed offline, RT BI requires to gather relevant information by processing data on-the-fly as they flow between enterprise systems. Still, the potential of having real time data at hand remains largely unexploited unless the user has immediate access to them, regardless of where (s)he is and which device (s)he is using. Novel BI systems should support data analysis and delivery to the user not only in real time, but also at any place. SpagoBI, the 100% open source BI suite, has evolved to address these challenges. Its 3.0 version supports the real time monitoring, analysis and presentation of business data and processes. SpagoBI combines the features of Business Activity Monitoring platform with advanced data analysis and presentation capabilities, including reports, KPIs and interactive charts. In addition, it provides functionalities to allow business users to receive information on existing critical situations in real time, no matter where s/he is. Users can visualize data online on their mobile devices, such as tablets and smart phones, as well as download them for later offline analysis. This way, they can detect inefficiencies and bottlenecks in business processes, promptly react to events requiring quick decision making, and discover new business opportunities hidden in their own data.

What is ACCOUNTING INTELLIGENCE? What does ACCOUNTING INTELLIGENCE mean?

03:49
What is ACCOUNTING INTELLIGENCE? What does ACCOUNTING INTELLIGENCE mean? ACCOUNTING INTELLIGENCE meaning - ACCOUNTING INTELLIGENCE definition - ACCOUNTING INTELLIGENCE explanation. Source: Wikipedia.org article, adapted under https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ license. SUBSCRIBE to our Google Earth flights channel - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6UuCPh7GrXznZi0Hz2YQnQ A specialist form of business intelligence, accounting intelligence is the general name for the set of technologies used to extract, analyse and present information from accounting and ERP applications such as JD Edwards, Oracle E-Business Suite or SAP. Accounting intelligence differs from standard business intelligence in some key ways:- Accounting intelligence applications are specifically designed to analyse data from specific ERP systems. Business intelligence is a more general tool that can be applied to any application that uses a database. In an accounting intelligence, there is no staggering of data in a data warehouse or OLAP cube. Information is extracted directly from the ERP at the time that a query is run. A Business Intelligence application typically involves a batch process to extract data from the live database, and store it in a denormalised form. This process is normally referred to as extract, transform, load, or ETL. Typically around 75-80% of the development cost expended when creating a business intelligence system, goes into the design and development of the ETL process. Accounting intelligence applications leverage the structure of the chart of accounts and other dimensions, so for example dimension structures can be automatically created based on inbuilt hierarchies, level of detail or account category codes. Time-based functions specifically allow for Year to Date, Cumulative, Period, rolling average and year on year analysis. Querying an accounts database directly means the information returned is up to the second real time data. Discrepancies in the accounts can be corrected and a fresh trial balance, P&L or Balance Sheet viewed immediately. Some aggregation in accounting systems is performed by the ERP when new journal entries are posted, so there is no need to use a cube to aggregate every journal entry from scratch. As there is no ETL process, accounting intelligence solutions are typically much simpler to install, implement and maintain than traditional business intelligence solutions. Inquiries and reports typically created by end users rather than software developers. Accounting intelligence solutions can make SOX compliance easier for many companies, as there is no need to separately audit both the accounts themselves and a separate data warehouse and ETL process. Key advantages compared to business intelligence: Accounting intelligence system ensures that an enterprise resource planning (ERP) system is the single source of all operational reporting and analysis, and that it can be relied upon to give accurate and secure information. Out of the box solution, much quicker to implement than a standard BI solution. As there is no data warehouse, there is no need to separately audit the staged data. Data returned is real time, live data, not a snapshot. Key disadvantages compared to business intelligence: Can only be applied to specific ERP systems, such as JDE, Oracle E-Business and SAP. Can not integrate data from outside the ERP system.

Marketing intelligence is necessary when entering a foreign market. Marketing intelligence determines the intelligence needed, collects it by searching environment and delivers it to marketing managers who need it. Marketing intelligence software can be deployed using an on-premises or software as a service (SaaS, or cloud-based) model. These systems take data from disparate data sources, like web analytics, business intelligence, call center and sales data, which often come separate reports, and put them into a single environment. In order to collect marketing intelligence, marketing managers must be in constant touch with relevant books, newspapers and trade publications. They must talk to various stakeholders like customers, distributors, and suppliers. In addition to this, they must also monitor social media and carry out online discussions. Marketing managers can design reports that correlate and visualize data coming from a variety of departments and sources (even, in some cases, external data.) This allows them to see current key performance indicators in real time (or as quickly as sources provide data) and analyze trends, rather than wait for analysts to deliver periodic reports. Marketing intelligence systems are designed to be used by marketing managers and often viewed by employees throughout an organization. Notable systems on the market include Leadtime, Pardot, Marketo, and Hubspot. They may have user interfaces that closely resemble consumer software than the software around individual data sources, which are designed for use by analysts. Business intelligence, for example, can collect highly accurate, timely, granular data, but often requires IT support to build and edit custom reports. Organizationally, marketing intelligence can be the name of the department that performs both the market intelligence and competitor analysis roles. Business intelligence of any kind may also be their responsibility, in tandem with (or solely performed by) the Finance department, for measuring market share and setting growth targets, the mergers and acquisitions group for exploring acquisition opportunities, the legal department to protect the organization's assets or research and development for cross-company comparison of innovation trends and the discovery of opportunities through innovative differentiation. Steps to be taken by a Company to improve its Marketing Intelligence (1) Train and Motivate Sales Force: A company's sales force can be an excellent source of information about the current trends in the market. They are the "intelligence gatherers" for the company. The acquired facts can be regarding the company's market offerings, whether any improvements are required or not or is there any opportunity for new products, etc. It can also provide a credible source to know about competitor activities, consumers, distributors, and retailers. (2) Motivate Distributors, retailers, and other intermediaries to pass along important intelligence: Specialists are hired by companies to gather marketing intelligence. In order to measure the quality of production, the way the employees are behaving with customers, quality of facilities being provided; retailers and service providers send mystery shoppers. Firms can also assess the quality of customer experience with the shops with the use of mystery shoppers. .....

Self service Business Intelligence for Multi-Centers Healthcare systems

24:44
This project is about ability to create Web Applications, which can be used as interfaces to submit data, as those web-applications are accessible online, so we have overcome the geographical limitations, thus we can use it in organizations that extend over several cities and several countries, which would be a perfect tool to use in gathering data in a multi-branch organization like the ministry of health, so in simple words, we have designed a module that created endless number of applications that can be used to collect data from all areas of a hospital or a polyclinic setting, and as we can access from anywhere to input data, we also can access from anywhere to retrieve and analyze the data (but of course with the right permission level and data security measures) Our main tool of development is the Microsoft Sharepoint site, and the development that is going to be shown in the attached video has costed our organization zero cost, except of the time of it's own employees , we hope that this system will help thousands of physicians and their patients, and we also hope that this system will help us save millions of dollars in development costs, because if it has costed our organization nothing, it will definitely cost any other organization that adopts this module nothing as well

Business Intelligence & Analytics -- #MetroStarMinute, ep. 19

01:30
Between "smart data”, “big data” and “data-driven" business approaches, the simple need for Business Intelligence and Analytics can be lost in the noise. If the following 3 pain points sound familiar to you, it’s time to further explore BI and Analytics. Number One: You have data, but no real information. Don’t just be a record Keeper. Collect and start analyzing data in order to leverage it into actionable information. Number Two: Excel overload. Your data collection is always growing, so it doesn’t take long to accumulate data far beyond Excel’s capacity. Don’t stunt your analytic growth by using the wrong tools. Unify your data to enable real-time sharing and reduce human error from your current environment. Number Three: Where’s my report and what am I looking at? Reports are crucial as a starting point for any analysis. KPIs give you the ability to display core metrics that guide business decisions. By using a centralized BI system for reporting and analytics you’re able to spend more time analyzing and measuring objectives and ensuring KPIs are useful and relevant. **************************** Learn more about MetroStar Systems: http://www.metrostarsystems.com **************************** Follow us on Social: @Metrostarsystem  Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/MetroStar-Systems-102800971034/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/metrostarsystem Instagram: http://instagram.com/metrostarsystems LinkedIn: http://bit.ly/29KSBA0 Blog: http://blog.metrostarsystems.com/ Snapchat: https://www.snapchat.com/add/metrostarsystem **************************** MetroStar Careers: http://www.metrostarsystems.com/careers/

Business Analyst Interview Questions and Answers – How to Really Sell Your BA Skills

08:19
If you are preparing for your first business analyst job interview or if it’s been awhile since you’ve interviewed, you are probably wondering what questions you can expect and how to answer them. Interviewing for a business analyst job is very different than interviewing for a more technical or domain-focused role. In particular, what’s different is how you answer questions to position your skills to a potential employer. I’ve been on both sides of the business analyst job interview process multiple times – I’ve hired several BAs and, while I was contracting, I interviewed for several BA positions. In this video, I share my insider tips on how to prove you have the business analysis skills your employer wants to see in an interview. And here is the link to the free Interview Prep Guide I mention in the video: http://www.bridging-the-gap.com/prepare-for-ba-job-interview/ Read more on the blog now: http://www.bridging-the-gap.com/ba-interview-sell-skills/
