Medical device promotion is an essential component of successful product commercialization, and the FDA has broad authority over the labeling of all devices as well as the advertising of “restricted devices”. While various similarities between the FDA’s regulation of medical device and drug promotion do exist, there are numerous important distinctions and, in recent years, greater enforcement of device promotion than drug promotion. Until FDA releases additional guidance in the labeling and promotion area, manufacturers must ensure their sales and marketing teams and promotional review committees adhere to FDA’s expectations to minimize their risk exposure. Importance of Sensory Integration

Sensory Issues in Young Children A Video Series by Pathways.org #1 Understanding the Senses: Do You Know There Are More Than 5? Accompaning Handout: http://pathways.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/understandingthesenses_english.pdf Watch this video to gain an understanding of sensory integration. This video uses animation to provide information about: the 7 senses, how individuals use sensory information, and possible signs of sensory integration issues. Visit http://www.pathways.org for more information, including a sensory integration checklist useful for checking any possible sensory issues in children. (Sensory integration issues can be addressed through occupational therapy.) If you think your child may have a sensory processing disorder, please ask your pediatrician to recommend your child to an occupational therapist for a sensory integration evaluation. Then find out if your child may benefit from sensory integration therapy. The sooner the better! Most people know about five of our senses... sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch. Each of these senses brings us important information. For example, touch helps you to know the difference between the feel of a bug crawling on your arm and the feeling of a friend tapping you on the shoulder. There are also two other senses that are very important. Our sense of balance and movement, which comes from our vestibular system. This sense helps us move our body without falling, so we can do activities like walking, riding a bicycle, or even sitting correctly at a desk. It is also the sense that lets you know that you are moving very fast on a roller coaster, even if your eyes are closed. We also get important information from our body position sense, or proprioception. This sense gives you information about the position of your body parts without having to look at them. It helps you do activities like walking up stairs without having to look down at your feet. This sense also tells you how much force to usewhen doing things like picking up and cracking open an egg. Putting together information from all of these senses makes it possible for us to participate in everyday activities. By integrating, or combining all the information we get from our senses, we can 'make sense' of the world around us and successfully move through and interact in our world. Most tasks involve a number of our senses working together. For example, when playing baseball, you need your sense of body position to know how you are standing and the position of your arms holding the bat. You need your sense of touch to grip and move the bat correctly in your hands. Your sense of vision lets you follow the ball with your eyes and helps your body know when to get ready to swing the bat. ...And your balance and movement sense helps you to stay upright, hit the ball and run the bases. We all need to integrate our senses to engage in everyday activities. When everyday activities become frustrating for a child, it may be because they are having trouble organizing and using information from their senses. Sensory integration issues can show up in many different ways. Your child might seem to be over or under reactive to different types of sensory experiences, such as textures, sounds or movements. Or a child might appear clumsy, or disorganized, or have difficulty learning new motor skills. Every child is unique in both their abilities and in their possible areas of concern. The good news is that there is help for children with sensory and motor challenges. Through occupational therapy using a sensory integrative approach a child can improve their ability to use sensory information while participating in a variety of fun sensory-motor activities. Occupational therapy using this approach often takes place in a large gym that has lots of fun opportunities for children to experience movement and use their senses to play, learn, and develop. Therapy helps kids simply be kids, learning and playing alongside friends, and fully enjoying their young lives. If you think your child might have issues related to poor sensory integration, ask your pediatrician to refer you to an occupational therapist for an evaluation. And don't wait. The earlier you start, the better for your child. For more information about sensory integration, contact Pathways.org either at www.pathways.org or call 1-800-955-CHILD to help your child reach their fullest potential. All materials including videos are provided at no cost; no fees or charges may be associated with any of the Pathways.org materials without prior written approval.

Mood Toolbox: Strategies To Empower Children

01:48
Mood toolbox is a practical intervention for parents, teachers and counselors that will positively support children with learning how to effectively regulate their moods and emotions. This program was developed by Natalie Clarke with the assistance from her friend, a behaviour specialist (40 years experience) to help Natalie’s son with ASD. The intervention assists Ben in understanding his own emotions and has empowered him to select strategies from the toolbox to use when needed. He has become more independent in his choices of how he regulates his emotions. Natalie has three degrees, including a Masters in Special Education and over 30 years experience teaching in Public, State and Autistic Schools. Over the years, Natalie has assisted many children in learning how to regulate their own emotions. Mood toolbox is a practical approach and can be used individually or in the whole class environment. It is especially helpful for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Social Emotional Disorder (SED). A fun character affectionately called Moodzie helps to encourage children to recognize their own moods. Each Moodzie has a color that represents different moods, such as red for anger, blue for sadness etc. Learning to navigate the emotional roads of children can be challenging, but for the impacted children, discerning and working through their own moods can be even more trying. Some children may not know how to communicate their feelings, but with the Mood Tool Box, their moods can be explored through Moodzie’s various adventure stories and other support materials. Visit our website to learn all about additional strategies from experts around the world that can help with emotional regulation and moods. Also discover where to download our free books and apps. Additional materials such as certificates, activities and stickers are available from our site to further help children choose happy. www.lifelearningapps.com/mood-toolbox/

The OTC Markets Group Best Practices On Stock Promotion Guidelines

07:41
The OTC Markets Group Best Practices on Stock Promotion Guidelines- As in its separate stock promotion policy, the OTC Markets Group best practices on stock promotion guidelines reiterate the core principle that the timely disclosure of material information is key, which includes the duty to dispel unfounded rumors, misinformation or false statements. OTC Markets Group suggests that companies perform due diligence on investor relations firms and their principals prior to engaging services. This is advice I am constantly giving to my clients. Basic due diligence includes reviewing other represented clients and doing basic searches for regulatory issues or negative news. Companies should also be very clear on what services an investor relations firm will perform and what compensation will be paid for those services. Very vague service descriptions often indicate an improper promotional campaign. OTC Markets Group also warns of red flags, including a request that payment be split among various individuals or groups. A company that hires or sponsors investor relations is responsible for the content of communications made by that company and must ensure that all information is materially current and accurate. In addition, a company should retain editorial control and review all information before it is disseminated. Investor relations materials should not use language that makes assumptions, is speculative or misleading, or brazenly hypes the stock. Communications should not cover new material information that has not been previously disclosed, and should not extend beyond providing factual information to investors and shareholders. The disclosures required by Section 17(b) must always be properly made, and OTC Markets Group specifically requires that any relationship between the investor relations individuals and entities and the company be fully disclosed. Since third parties often engage in stock promotional activities without the knowledge or consent of a company, it is important for a company to know its investors, including the people behind any entities or investor groups. Investors that desire anonymity or utilize offshore entities raise a red flag. Furthermore, companies should be wary of shareholders that own significant control or investor groups that will qualify to remove restrictive legends on stock. Investor groups often change the name of their investment vehicle entity and, as such, due diligence should include prior entities. OTC Markets Group warns against toxic or death spiral financing. Toxic or death spiral financing generally involves an investment in the form of a convertible promissory note or preferred stock that converts into common stock at a discount to market with no floor on the conversion price. As I have written about many times, there are quality investors and others that are not quality in the microcap space. The use of convertible instruments as a method to invest in public companies is perfectly legal and acceptable. However, like any other aspect of the securities marketplace, it can be abused. Further examples of abusive or improper activity could include: (i) backdating of notes or failure to provide the funding associated with the note; (ii) improper undisclosed affiliations between investors and the company or its officers and directors; (iii) manipulative trading practices; (iv) improper stock promotion; or (v) trading on insider information...

The Fed and Bank Regulatory Agencies: Finance, Banking - Alan Greenspan (1994)

01:25:55
Bank regulation in the United States is highly fragmented compared with other G10 countries, where most countries have only one bank regulator. In the U.S., banking is regulated at both the federal and state level. Depending on the type of charter a banking organization has and on its organizational structure, it may be subject to numerous federal and state banking regulations. Unlike Japan and the United Kingdom (where regulatory authority over the banking, securities and insurance industries is combined into one single financial-service agency), the U.S. maintains separate securities, commodities, and insurance regulatory agencies—separate from the bank regulatory agencies—at the federal and state level.[1] U.S. banking regulation addresses privacy, disclosure, fraud prevention, anti-money laundering, anti-terrorism, anti-usury lending, and the promotion of lending to lower-income populations. Some individual cities also enact their own financial regulation laws (for example, defining what constitutes usurious lending). A bank's primary federal regulator could be the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, the Federal Reserve Board, or the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency. Within the Federal Reserve Board are 12 districts centered around 12 regional Federal Reserve Banks, each of which carries out the Federal Reserve Board's regulatory responsibilities in its respective district. Credit unions are subject to most bank regulations and are supervised by the National Credit Union Administration. The Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council (FFIEC) establishes uniform principles, standards, and report forms for the other agencies. State-chartered banks are also subject to the regulation and supervision of the state regulatory agency of the state in which they were chartered. State regulation of state-chartered banks applies, in addition to federal regulation. For example, a California state bank that is not a member of the Federal Reserve System would be regulated by both the California Department of Financial Institutions and the FDIC. Likewise, a Nevada state bank that is a member of the Federal Reserve System would be jointly regulated by the Nevada Division of Financial Institutions and the Federal Reserve. State banking laws apply to state-chartered banks and certain non-bank affiliates of federally chartered banks. By statute, and in accordance with judicial interpretation of statutes and the United States Constitution, federal banking statutes (and the regulations and other guidance issued by federal banking regulatory agencies) often preempt state laws regulating certain activities of nationally chartered banking institutions and their subsidiaries. Specific exceptions to the general rule of federal preemption exist such as some contract law, escheat law, and insurance law. One example of Office of Thrift Supervision preemption begins with Section 550.136(a) of the OTS Regulations, providing that “...OTS occupies the field of the regulation of the fiduciary activities of Federal savings associations...Accordingly, Federal savings associations may exercise fiduciary powers as authorized under Federal law, including this part, without regard to State laws that purport to regulate or otherwise affect their fiduciary activities, except to the extent provided in 12 U.S.C. § 1464(n)...or in paragraph (c) of this section.” 12 U.S.C. § 1464(n) authorizes fiduciary activities for federal savings associations, and specifies certain state law requirements that are applicable to federal savings associations. Section 550.136(c) lists six types of state laws that, in certain specified circumstances, are not preempted with respect to federal savings associations. At its core, financial transparency requires financial institutions to implement certain basic controls:[5] they must know who their customers are (so-called know your customer rules); they must understand their customers' normal and expected transactions; and they must keep the necessary records and make the necessary reports on their customers. The Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) requires financial institutions to assist government agencies to detect and prevent money laundering. Specifically, the act requires financial institutions to keep records of cash purchases of negotiable instruments, file reports of cash transactions exceeding $10,000 (daily aggregate amount), and to report suspicious activity that might signify money laundering, tax evasion or other criminal activities. Section 326 of the USA PATRIOT Act allows financial institutions to place limits on new accounts until the account holder's identity has been verified. Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) sanctions apply to all U.S. entities including banks. The FFIEC provides guidelines to financial regulators for verifying compliance with the sanctions. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bank_regulation_in_the_United_States

The giant companies are adopting the cryptocurrency as a payment gateway. The only risk with the adoption of cryptocurrency is its anonymity. The only solution to the anonymous transaction is proper regulations. AML is one of the most discussed factors in terms of cryptocurrency regulation. 2015 The Art of Co-regulation: a neuro-developmentally informed approach to parenting

01:18:50
Dr. George Davis, New Mexico CYFD and Juvenile Justice Services and Robbyn Peters Bennett, VP, US Alliance to End the Hitting of Children PRESENT at the 2015 International Summit & Training on Violence, Abuse, & Truama: NEURODEVELOPMENTALLY INFORMED PARENTING Early neurodevelopment is a sensitive process largely coordinated by the quality of the primary care taking. Abuse and neglect interrupt normal early brain development, and harsh parenting has been proven to have similar detriments. This damage is prevented by caretaking that emphasizes relational regulation of the young child by the caretaker. Understanding the mechanism of regulation, dysregulation, and co-regulation and its effect on both the caregiver and child provides an informed framework for responding to and healing early brain disorganization. Self-regulatory disorganization (dysregulation) underlies a broad range of behavioral problems, often initially recognized as chronic tantrums, hyperarousal, and attentional problems that can then cascade into more resistant behavioral problems and even delinquency later on. Understanding the neurodevelopmental process of co-regulation underscores the importance of sensory sensitive, sequentially appropriate, relationally based clinical and parenting practices in working with mainstream and at-risk children.

Game-changing drones come with new risks/ evolving regulation - A.M. Best.

04:09
The commercial use of drones is expected to grow rapidly as companies like Amazon and UPS look to use drones to support their activities. Drones can potentially change business models for a number of industries, including insurance. Here, A.M. Best AVP Henry Witmer discusses the use of drones, related liability exposures and the underwriting challenges insurers face. Less than two dozen companies are writing coverage for drones, but Mr. Witmer expects that to increase. There is very little history or data on drones, therefore becomes more a risk management issue than an actuarial issue. Risk Managers need to identify the potential risk and costs from a liability standpoint. Mr. Witmer says insurance companies are also looking to use drones to manage claims and do some of the work done by adjusters. The data could be transmitted electronically to an adjuster in another location, so claims can be processed quickly. Mr. Witmer identified several issues that need to be addressed before the use of drones becomes “fully effective.” He says “You’ll need a qualified, certified operator of the drone, You’ll also need FAA clearance and permission from property owners….drone operator will (also) need to make sure that the drone is in line of sight and that they have full use of the drone. “ There are strong long term benefits to using drones, Mr. Witmer says, “although the approach will have to be in a very careful systematic manner.” We’d like to thank A.M. Best for their contribution to our program. If you’d like to see more of the First Monday Series, visit the A.M. Best website.

The Need for National Shea tree Policy to Regulate the Shea Industry -Prof Dittoh 16

02:48
A senior lecturer at the University of Development Studies (UDS) Prof. Saa Dittoh, has called on government to initiate a national policy to plan and organize activities of the Shea industry. According to him, a national policy will empower Assemblies to manage and organize the Shea markets at the local level. VO The Shea industry offers employment and revenue potential to about 85 percent of women in the Northern region on a seasonal and part-time basis, as pickers. However, the industry is not properly organized leading to buyers now determining the prices at which they will buy the Shea products, depriving the suppliers of much needed profit. Besides the potential revenue being lost to the state as a result of lack of regulation of the shea industry, shea dealers are losing their livelihoods due to the felling of shea trees in the Northern regions. Now a senior lecturer at the University for Development Studies (UDS), Prof. Saa Dittoh, is calling on government to institute a national policy to plan and organize activities of the shea industry. SOT 1: Prof. Saa Dittoh, Senior lecturer, University for Development Studies( UDS) Prof. Dittoh further called for the organization of women engaged in the shea value chain into groups to manage Shea plantations. He urged the women groups to domesticate the shea tree to improve their revenue mobilization in the communities. From Tamale, Noah Nash for Viasat 1 News

Reducing Corruption In Government & The Banking Industry

Andrew Stoltmann and Frank Vogl discuss the corruption in government and the banking industry. Both agree that corruption is the reason for the current American financial situation. Andrew indicates the only way to clean up the banking industry is more banking regulation. Regulation will discourage sr executives from engaging in illegal activities. Frank takes the opposite position by saying that the industry is does not need over regulation because it can lead to corruption in government. http://www.investmentfraud.pro/

Big Pharma Cash Cow pt.3/6

09:27
The companies that make up the pharmaceutical industry are among the largest corporations in the world. In 2004 their combined global sales were over half a trillion dollars, with Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson leading the pack. Together, these businesses have come to be known as Big Pharma. In the US, the core of Big Pharmas immense profits is from sales of prescription medication. And since these drugs can only be prescribed by medical professionals, most of the industrys promotional and marketing activities are directed at doctors, pharmacists and other health care providers. The companies of Big Pharma hope these campaigns will lead to new prescriptions for their brands. In recent years, Big Pharma has pushed its way into the traditional doctor/patient relationship and found a new way to increase sales - by targeting patients directly and independently, largely through television advertising. Between 1996 and 2004, industry spending on Direct to Consumer Advertising (or DTC) rose over 500 percent. Now, even before walking into their doctors offices, patients have already been exposed to millions of dollars worth of persuasive advertising that encourages them to ask their doctor how a particular brand of drug might help them. In this new landscape, the most vital question for American consumers is this: How might the influence of one of the most powerful for-profit industries in the world affect the way we think about our health and well-being? http://www.mediaed.org/cgi-bin/commerce.cgi?preadd=action&key=224
