I'm Rebecca from engVid. Today I'm especially excited to welcome you to a new series that I've created called: "How to Speak like a Manager". In this series you will learn how to take general English and upgrade it to business English. Okay? And we'll be doing that by looking at different verbs that you can use, adjectives, nouns, and so on. Okay? But today in this lesson we will be focusing on eight verbs. But you might be asking: "Only eight verbs and I can become a manager?" Well, yes. "Why?" Because I'm going to show you how these eight verbs, to start with, can actually be used in hundreds of ways, in different collocations or combinations of words, so therefore you'll be able to use them in all kinds of situations. Definitely in professional situations, but also in social situations or personal situations. Okay? So, let's start right now. Okay. So let's suppose what you want to say in general English or regular English is something like this: "I need to find out what's wrong." Okay? Now, on this side is all the regular English or the general English. Okay? And on this side we're going to express the same idea, but in higher English, in more advanced business English or more professional English. And you're going to help me because I didn't write the word in yet. You're going to help me because perhaps you already know some of these words, but even if you know them you might not realize how many different ways we can actually use those same words, and that's what I want you to be able to do. Okay? So suppose your idea in your mind is that: "I need to find out what's wrong." So how can we say that in more professional English? "I need to", the verb starts with "i": "I need to _______ the problem. I need to identify the problem." Okay? So, our first word today is "identify". Say it after me: "identify the problem". Good. Now, suppose the idea you're trying to convey is: "I need to fix the problem." Okay? "Fix" is a very ordinary word, so what better word could we use here? "I need to _______ the issue or the issues. I need to", you might know this word. "I need to resolve", okay? So, "resolve" is just like "solve", but usually we say: "Solve the problem", but we might say: "Resolve the issue". And "resolve" is an even higher, more advanced word. And the higher vocabulary that you use, the more professional you will sound. Okay? And that's what our goal is. Right? Okay, next: "I need to give people confidence." So what's a good word or verb for that? "To give somebody confidence" is to, something starts with "m": "I need to _______ my employees. I need to..." Do you know this word? I'm sure you've heard it. "Motivate". Okay? Say it after me: "Motivate" or "motivate". You can say the "t"; sometimes it's easier and clearer for people to understand you when you say the "t". So let's say the "t" now: "Motivate. I need to motivate my employees" or: "I need to motivate my employees." Okay? Instead of saying: "I need to give people confidence", because you see that all the verbs here are very ordinary, everyday verbs, and those are higher-level verbs. Next: "I need to give clients my attention." Again, we have a very weak verb here, so how can you say that: "I need to give my attention to my clients or give clients my attention"? The word... The verb starts with "f": "I need to _______ on our clients." What's the verb? Do you know it? "I need to focus", okay? Say it after me: "Focus". Be careful how you pronounce this word because otherwise it can sound improper. All right? "I need to focus on our clients." Sounds a lot better than saying: "I need to give my attention to my clients." Okay? "I need to focus". Next: "I need to spend as little as possible". "Spend as little" means spend as little money. So what's one word that captures that idea, to spend as little as possible? It starts with "m": "I need to _______ our expenses or our costs." Do you know what it is? Okay? So the word is "minimize". Georgia's Small Business Resources
This video illustrates how the Georgia Department of Economic Development can help a small business like Jon's learn about business licenses, labor laws, taxes and other details for starting his business. Jen discovers information about tax breaks, academic research and export assistance as she looks for ways to grow her company. Last year, the department’s director of small business, Mary Ellen McClanahan, directly assisted 1,300 companies and advised 150 communities and organizations. The Centers of Innovation connected and assisted nearly 4,000 Georgia companies during 2014, up 30 percent from the previous fiscal year. And the International Trade division received the Presidential “E Star” Award, the nation’s highest honor for excellence in providing export programs and services. More than 14,500 Georgia companies exported $37.6 billion in goods and services to 230 countries and territories in 2013. In FY 2013, GDEcD’s International Trade division worked with 1,346 companies in Georgia. Work with these companies resulted in 420 export deals that were valued at $35.9 million. These are just a few of the reasons why Georgia is consistently ranked as the top state for business.

One of the BEST RESOURCES for Your ENGLISH | Learn English
In this video, I discuss why phrasebooks are a great investment for your English - Free Book ➜ https://www.tofluency.com/5-step-plan/ ▼ Get Notifications of my latest videos ➜ http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=tofluency ▼ //////// TRANSCRIPT //////// Hello. This is Jack from tofluency.com. Now, I got an email the other day from somebody who asked me to make more videos about phrases to use when traveling. Now, I am going to introduce more of these videos soon, but i thought this would be a great time to introduce one of my favorite resources for learning a language. Now, this is a guide to Florence. My wife and I went to Italy about six years ago and I decided to take a quick course on Italian before going there because I wanted to be able to use a few phrases while I was there. now I also got this guide and another phrase book. - I highly recommend phrase books when it comes to learning English both for specific situations when you're traveling but also to help you learn English in general. Now, phrase books are normally very accurate and what's more, they give you the phrases you need to know in specific situations. So, this obviously helps when you're traveling, when you're going to your hotel or ordering coffee and things like that. But it's also going to help you learn grammar and the correct phrases to know in lots of different situations. Now, to get the most out of something like a phrase book, what I recommend you do is to take the phrases and the sentences that are useful for you and learn them. Now, I have a very specific method for this called the sentence method, and you might have heard me talk about this before. And if you have, then i highly recommend checking out the article that I wrote on how to use this method. In summary, what you do is you take sentences that are useful for you, enter them into software, and then go through the sentences on your phone or on your computer in a variety of ways so that you can internalize the words and phrases but also internalize grammar - so, check out the description where there is a link to that article. My question for you is this do you use phrase books to help you learn English and if you do, do you have a recommendation for other learners? If you have a recommendation, then please share it below. Thank you for watching and I'll speak to you soon! ---------- Please share this video if you found it useful. Small Business Resources: 5 Valuable Tips
Please watch: "The no BS Entrepreneur Definition" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FghvKiBuKo0 -~-~~-~~~-~~-~- Brad Adams, founder of www.RenegadeEntrepreneurs.com reveals 5 small business resources that every entrepreneur, business owner or executive should be using. These small business resources are tools which allow entrepreneurs or executives to get more stuff done and create more time in their day. And creating more time means having more freedom to do the things you like. The first small business resource is an often-misunderstood service. While many think of it as “goofy”, it is actually a very valuable service that will do tasks for you…fast and inexpensively. The second tool is used superficially by many. But most just scratch the surface of the powerful features and miss out on the power. This great business resource will greatly help you to retain information and find easily find it when needed. The third small business resource revealed solves one of the great puzzles of all people who spend time online. It will help you to vastly improve your computer security while simplifying your life. The fourth tool solves probably the single most vexing problem facing entrepreneurs and executives today…too many emails. We are all overloaded with emails and don’t have effective ways to filter and organize the mass of information that comes in to our inbox. This business resource simply and elegantly solves that problem. Here’s a hint: it helps you to regain your sanity. In this video, Brad Adams emphasizes that there are many more than 5 tools, so the selection of just 5 was very difficult…and certainly not all encompassing. After deliberation, the fifth and final small business resource recommended is a data storage solution. As with some others, it is commonly used. But few use it properly and get the full power from the tool. This resource will help you to store your information so that you can access it from all your devices. And you won’t be trying to find a needle in a haystack when you go looking for something. Used correctly, this tool will allow you to easily find your files any time you want. As technology changes all the time, viewers are urged to sign up at www.RenegadeEntrepreneurs.com to learn about more small business resources and keep on top of the latest developments.

Telephone English - BEP 69A: Answering the Telephone in English | Business English Conversation
This business English telephone lesson is part of our Business English conversation course: http://www.businessenglishpod.com/about-bep/about-business-english-pod/kickstart-your-business-english/ Talking on the telephone in has become an extremely important part of business English. You need to be able to answer a call in English professionally and create a good image of yourself and your company with only your voice. Having effective business English telephone skills leaves a good impression on your customers, clients, and colleagues. People are busy, so you want to be very clear, polite and organized. In this business English lesson, we’ll begin by looking at a bad example of answering a call and taking message. We’ll discuss why it’s a bad example, and then we’ll go into a good example of answering a call. I’m sure you’ll see a clear difference. Before we listen, let’s talk a bit about the basics of handling a call in English. Our tone of voice needs to be pleasant and positive. We don’t want to make people feel like they are bothering us. Some people try smiling when they speak even though the other person can’t see them. This trick helps you to maintain a good tone. Second, we should always be prepared. Whether you’re receiving or making a call, you need to be ready. We also need to make it clear from the beginning who the person is talking to. This means identifying ourselves and our company. From there, we need to lead the conversation and find out how we can help the caller. The caller should not have to ask for help. And finally, we need to remember that listening is half of a conversation. We need to listen and respond to what the other person is saying.
