Mobile Exploration Learning Service for Elementary Schools is an innovative learning model launched by the National Museum of Natural Science (NMNS); it combines digital learning resources with actual exhibitions and closely follows school curriculums. With tablets as a learning tool, this service targets elementary school students and teachers to meet the curriculum requirements for grades 1 to 9 as well as elementary schools. By combining the Museum’s digital archives with e-learning results, and exhibiting resources of science education activities, a series of thematic mobile exploration learning services was launched. Contents of the Mobile Exploration Learning Service for School Field Trip are available before, during, and after the field trip. Prior to the trip, teachers can access virtually integrated and animated teaching material on the Elementary Learning Resource Network for teaching classes; reservations for various Mobile Exploration Learning activities can also be made via the Network. During the trip, after teachers and students listen to the instructions provided by museum staff, they can use tablets at designated booths to observe and explore the display by using the “Mobile Exploration Learning Packs” provided by the Museum. Thematic missions motivate students’ inquiry, observation, critical thinking, deductive reasoning abilities, and feedback, which also help to develop their independent/collaborative problem-solving abilities. Through innovative technologies, this service will enhance students’ ability in applying digital technology and their information literacy. After the trip, teachers may browse and download students’ learning portfolios from the Elementary Learning Resource Network, to share and discuss the results during class to complete a full learning experience that combined school education with a trip to the Museum, and also formed a sustainable operation mode with integrated real and virtual activities which allowed the Museum to support school education.
