Video on the use of the open educational resources (OER) available on the Learning Resource Exchange (LRE), produced by bm:ukk, the Austrian Federal Ministry for Education, Arts and Culture (Bundesministerium für Unterricht, Kunst und Kultur). The Learning Resource Exchange (LRE) from European Schoolnet is a service that enables schools to find open educational resources from many different countries and providers. It was developed in order to provide Ministries of Education with access to a network of learning content repositories and associated tools that allow them to more easily exchange high quality learning resources that 'travel well' and can be used by teachers in different countries. Mobile Exploration Learning Service for Elementary Schools is an innovative learning model launched by the National Museum of Natural Science (NMNS); it combines digital learning resources with actual exhibitions and closely follows school curriculums. With tablets as a learning tool, this service targets elementary school students and teachers to meet the curriculum requirements for grades 1 to 9 as well as elementary schools. By combining the Museum’s digital archives with e-learning results, and exhibiting resources of science education activities, a series of thematic mobile exploration learning services was launched. Contents of the Mobile Exploration Learning Service for School Field Trip are available before, during, and after the field trip. Prior to the trip, teachers can access virtually integrated and animated teaching material on the Elementary Learning Resource Network for teaching classes; reservations for various Mobile Exploration Learning activities can also be made via the Network. During the trip, after teachers and students listen to the instructions provided by museum staff, they can use tablets at designated booths to observe and explore the display by using the “Mobile Exploration Learning Packs” provided by the Museum. Thematic missions motivate students’ inquiry, observation, critical thinking, deductive reasoning abilities, and feedback, which also help to develop their independent/collaborative problem-solving abilities. Through innovative technologies, this service will enhance students’ ability in applying digital technology and their information literacy. After the trip, teachers may browse and download students’ learning portfolios from the Elementary Learning Resource Network, to share and discuss the results during class to complete a full learning experience that combined school education with a trip to the Museum, and also formed a sustainable operation mode with integrated real and virtual activities which allowed the Museum to support school education.

This innovation, Sharebility, is an Educational Digital Resource-Sharing System for Ugandan Schools. There is a great demand for digital resources such as PowerPoint presentations because many Ugandan schools are shifting to the use of ICT in education. Existing e-learning systems have many limitations that hinder OPEN access, sharing, viewing and discussion of digital resources. It is upon this background that we undertook this project with the objective of developing a web system to connect the various stakeholders in schools and develop a culture of sharing open digital resources to promote education in Uganda. Sharebility is different from other related innovations in that the resources on the system are freely accessible, and there are quality assurance measures like ratings, reporting and comments features. The teachers with accounts on the system can easily contact each other for further collaboration. The teachers are encouraged to generously upload the digital resources in their possession to the pool. Sharebility maximizes the utilization of available e-learning resources for academic purposes through a give-and-take paradigm. FULL TRANSCRIPT: Hello there, my name is Mukalele Rogers, I’m one of the developers of the sharebility system. The sharebility system is our innovation, that we have brought forward in the area of Education. It is an online platform aimed at promoting education in Uganda through pooling digital teaching and learning resources by teachers across the country. You see, in this digital era, teachers can be able to use digital materials, more of e-learning, to supplement the libraries and hard copies (textbooks) that they have. Currently the system is being embraced by many teachers. According to the statistics, and usage, so far 181 users have registered and they have uploaded 366 resources over time, and the way we are designing it is that it has a back end where we look at the trends of how resources are being applied, and people sending views and complaints accordingly. On the system, for example this is a resource known as Cellular Respiration - when a resource has been uploaded, it opens within and then someone can be able to come and access it. Like this is a PowerPoint presentation – You can read from within the system or you can download it and then have a copy on the computer. So, by having such, schools can use ICT to devices like projectors to teach instead of using the black board, accordingly. So this the presentation. You can find past papers. This is an exam that has been uploaded by a gentleman known as Tibigambwa Kenneth. And if you come here you can have comments about the resource and can have ratings about the resource. Now in terms of usage, you have people in different parts of the country. We have put some map in the system where we track all the users of the system. You find that Kampala has the highest number of users, we have around 30 users in Kampala, In Namayingo we have only one person, in Jinja we have 15 people, In Kaabong we have only 1 user, in Moyo we have 1 user, Koboko we have 2, Gulu we have 4 users, Hoima we have 5, Kabarole 2 users, Ntungamo 6 and Kabale 3. So we have a number of people currently who are registering and we have their data here when they register into the system. Now, how are we engaging teachers? In addition to this system,we have integrated in social media platforms. Like this is a Facebook page. When someone uploads a paper like here, we share an update such that people can be able to follow this and then they go to that particular page. We also have a Twitter page for Sharebility Uganda, where we are having tweets when whenever someone uploads. We also have a group on WhatsApp that we are managing. Whenever a resource is uploaded, we share updates under this group such that people can check it out. They are encouraged to generously upload in a give and take paradigm. They are encouraged to upload their papers, marking guides, resources, notes, such that other teachers who are teaching the same syllabus can discuss them and advise. I want to thank you for listening to me. My Name is Mukalele once again, and our system is Sharebility Uganda, the Educational Digital resource sharing system for Ugandan Schools. CONCLUSION: ICTs provide an array of powerful tools that can help in transforming the present isolated, teacher-centered and text-bound classrooms into rich, student-focused, interactive knowledge environments. Sharebility is a system that is designed to enhance the traditional educational approaches since it can overcome many of the challenges involved in reaching underserved students in Uganda. By promoting the culture of sharing and receiving open digital educational resources, the vision of this project will be realized.
