The setting of the opera Signal at Dusk is a beach, the stretch of sand that separates sea and mainland. Roaming the beach women’s voices sing about the waves, as sources of seduction, of desire, of nourishment, of danger, destruction, loss. This opera is composed upon the sound art piece Signal-on-Sea, a spatial work that the audience can roam around in, spanning a kilometer long stretch of beach. Surrounded by an incorporeal choir, emanating from 24 loudspeakers, the voices move over the sand with desolate tones from foghorns acting as reference points. Fragments of texts, of poems about the sea lure the audience as darkness falls. Signal at Dusk connects land and sea in sound, makes them merge in the perception of the visitors, but also allow their sonic manifestations to be scattered on the wind. credits: composed and directed by Rob van Rijswijk & Jeroen Strijbos www.strijbosvanrijswijk.com Sopranos Bauwien van der Meer Linde Schinkel Els Mondelaers Michaela Riener Light Floriaan Ganzevoort Choreography Benjamin Vandewalle Codirection Joris van Midde libretto research Ilja Hijink Studiorecordings Daniëlla Buijck (alto) Kathelijn van Dongen (soprano) Leon van Egmond (trombone, horn) video Niels Groenendijk Production Strijbos & Van Rijswijk funded by The Perfroming Arts Fund NL province Noord-Brabant city of Tilburg www.strijbosvanrijswijk.com

The ocean looks like a thousand diamonds strewn across a blue blanket. I lean against the wind, pretend that i am weightless and in this moment i am happy. I wish you were here I wish you were here I wish you were here I wish you were here. I lay my head onto the sand. The sky resembles a backlit canopy with holes punched in it. I'm counting ufo's. I signal them with my lighter and in this moment i am happy, happy.

Hi guys, in this video I give an overview of Royal Enfield Classic Signals 350 Stormrider Sand. I'm not a professional vlogger so please don't expect hardcore details regarding previews or reviews. I'm just someone like you whose long cherished dream was to own a bullet one day which finally has become true and I shall be sharing my life events with my bullet with you as and when they happen. Also, I don't rehearse before the video and try to keep myself natural and on the spot. So, please spare me for the errors that I may commit while recording. Enjoy!

Calming Signals is a global term for the signals that horses give to appease a situation. Rachaël Draaisma is from Netherlands, and has spent the last four years studying the communicative and calming signals of horses. In this video, she discusses calming signals and how we as horse owners and handlers can use the signals to improve the wellbeing of our horses. For more info check out: https://calmingsignalsofhorses.com/en/ If you want to see how horses can live a natural life in a domesticated environment, check out http://blackarabians.dk Rachaël Draaisma has been working professionally with horses since 2013. She has always been a horse lover, riding horses from she was 6 years old. She has been working professionally with dogs since 2003, but shifted to horses after she met Turid Rugas, with whom she shares a passion for calming signals and horses. Owners must recognize the horses feelings — We as an owners or horse handlers must use the calming signals and start recognizing them Calming signals can be seen as something that is changing in the environment in the horse. If you look at it as a latter, it is the first signals that you see when the tension might be rising or the tension is lowering. It might be followed up by stress signals. If you see calming signals It might be a point for you to look at, if the horse coping, is he feeling all right, is he appeasing or is the stress going up. If you recognize calming signals you have a tool to recognize tension levels. Horses like harmony in their lives Horses are very social beings they like harmony in their lives. If you know about the signals, we can also use them to make the lives of the horses better. I think that we as a owner have to do that. We own them we control them, we put them in a human environment, and it would be very nice if people start to look at what is important for the horse, what does he like to do in life, what is his joy. We should not only be looking at what we want to gain, what we want to do in terms of riding, what our goals are, but also give the horse a voice in his life, and balance that out. A little bit of you and a little bit of the horse. A tool to see how the horse is coping Horse are herd members, humans are herd members, dogs are living in social groups. Maintaining the peace in the group is quite vital, for not getting injured and keeping the social relations intact. Horses are not the only ones using calming signals. Humans and dogs also use calming signals. So it is important recognizing how the horse is feeling in the human world. Horses live in a controlled domesticated world, where there are a lot of stimuli around him. If the owner recognizes his horse´s body features, the facial features, the interactions patterns, the calming signals, the displacement activities and the stress activities, he can really use it as a tool to see, how the horse is coping in this human world. If the owner sees that the horse has trouble with something, he can help the him feel better, he can step in and adjust the environment and start socializing with the horse. Mental stimulation activities for horses The study of the calming signals, and not only calming signals, but also the features of the horse, the communications and interaction patterns will continue and something that will be prolonged. All the films, Rachaël Draisma have over 400 recorded videos, will be analyzed. Another passion of Rachaëls, when working with horses, is mental stimulation, and also including the sand work. It is where we teach the horses to follow a trail of a person or of a food bag, and they love it. It is a really nice empowerment movement, it makes the horses happy and it makes the handlers happy as well. Mental stimulation and sand work is something Rachaël Draaisma wants so expand. She would like to tell people about her findings, so handlers and humans can use it as a tool in their life and work with horses. That means we can look forward to more lectures and new books from Rachaël Draaisma in the future.

Living beings communicate with the environment with their colors. ▶ SUBSCRIBE! http://bit.ly/PlanetDoc Full Documentaries every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday! ▶ Full Documentary "Survivors of Planet Earth" http://planetdoc.tv/playlist-survivors-of-planet-earth On the island of Cuba, there are a number of deep holes, caves flooded with water where light never penetrates. This dark world is home to species of blind fish. Blind because their eyes have atrophied – in this opaque atmosphere, they are no longer necessary. Some of the survivors of the Planet Earth have adapted to places like this, where, because of the lack of light, colours serve no purpose. Such beings are almost always white or transparent. However, the vast majority of animal species depend on the sun as a source of energy, through green plants. Outside marginal worlds like this one, living beings are flooded with light, and where there is light, colours and designs develop as a means of communication with the surrounding world. Living beings on this planet are dressed to suit the occasion. An entire code of colours is used to send messages to others, a sophisticated system of communication which everyone tries to employ to their advantage. Strident messages of love that may be intercepted by dangerous eyes. Clan markings, bright colours inviting you to eat them, or warning you to steer clear. Humans too, adopt colour as a means of communication. Since the beginning of time, we have used them to express our emotions and feelings. In all cultures, there are colours of love, of joy and of death. Even in the most advanced societies, colours form an important part of our identity, both as individuals and as a group. On the beaches of mud and sand that the receding sea leaves behind along the coast of Java, in Indonesia, lives an animal whose life revolves around colour: the fiddler crab. When the tide goes out, they take over the beach. It is time for the males to compete for attention, and this they do by displaying the colours of their enormous claws. It serves to attract the females, who do not have this oversized appendage. And not just any female - only those of their own species. Here on the mud flats, like rival baseball teams, each species of fiddler crab has claws of a different colour. This system works well, and is fairly widespread among very different, distant animals, such as these anoli lizards, in the West Indies. The problem is some predators have very good eyesight when it comes to intercepting the visual signals of the anolis. The secret is to broadcast just enough to get the message across; one word too much could prove fatal. Often, the important thing is not so much the colours themselves, but the patterns they form. For animals that see in black and white, such as the giraffes or the zebras, the important thing is the design and the distribution of stripes and patches on their bodies. In the north of Kenya, two species of zebra often mix: Grevy’s, with thin stripes, and Burchell’s with broader stripes. For them, the differences are as great as if the other species were buffaloes; they simply ignore each other. For the inhabitants of New Guinea, war and tribal clashes form part of their existence, and so painting yourself in the right colours can be a matter of life or death. On this large island, around 1,000 different languages are spoken, and the members of each clan use different war paints in the frequent disputes. Within each group, the dominant colours are similar, and act like the uniforms of soldiers in a battle. Any confusion and you could be speared down by someone from your own side. For a Papuan child, the colours of the enemy tribes represent terror and death, while those of its own clan embody peace and the home. Even if these clashes come to an end some day, the clan colours will live on in the stories they represent through dance. ▶ SUBSCRIBE | http://bit.ly/PlanetDoc ▶ FULL DOCUMENTARIES | http://planetdoc.tv/playlist-full-documentaries ▶ SURVIVORS OF PLANET EARTH | http://planetdoc.tv/playlist-survivors-of-planet-earth ▶ FACEBOOK | http://bit.ly/FBPDoc ▶ TWITTER | http://bit.ly/TwPDoc ▶ TUMBLR | http://bit.ly/TbPlDoc

Twinspot Signal Goby: The coloration of the Signigobius biocellatus dorsal fin is thought to mimic a crab as it hops along the bottom with its two eye spot fins erect. This fish needs a live sand bed and well populated refugium to do well in captivity. Usually it feeds off the bottom sifting through the sand for food. Often found in the wild in pairs they are thought to do poorly in captivity if kept singly. This is an advanced care peaceful species that should not be kept with aggressive species or other sand sifters. The Twinspot Signal Goby maxes out at 3 inches and requires at least a 10 gallon aquarium with a mature sand bed. This is a peaceful advanced care level reef safe-fish.

Ostrich Dust bathing (also called sand bathing) is an animal behavior characterized by the act of grooming while rolling or moving around in dust or sand, with the purpose of cleaning fur, feathers or skin, and removing parasites. Dust bathing is a maintenance behavior performed by a wide range of mammalian and avian species. For some animals, dust baths are necessary to clean the feathers, skin, or fur, similar to bathing in water or wallowing in mud. In some mammals, dust bathing may be a way of transmitting chemical signals (or pheromones) to the ground which marks an individual's territory.
