How a bad bank saved the Swiss economy
When in 2008 the financial crisis arrived, Switzerland's major bank UBS was suddenly threatened with bankruptcy. Thousands of people in Switzerland, who had mortgage loans with UBS, could lose their homes. With UBS serving almost 1 in 2 Swiss companies, small businesses were threatened to collapse causing people to lose their jobs. Not to mention the more than 26,000 people working for UBS in Switzerland. Account holders were suddenly faced with losing all their savings. So the government had to intervene. Together with the Swiss national bank they created the stability fund, a bad bank, which would absorb all the toxic assets that threatened to bring down UBS. (Michele Andina, swissinfo.ch)

Making money while sleeping soundly: Swiss 'Compounders' highly attractive
With over 25 years of experience in equity markets, Daniele Scilingo knows his native Swiss market inside out. Under the nanos investment brand, the former Head of European equities of Pictet is now solely focusing on 30-50 Swiss "compounders" he identified and follows closely. These compounders offer high return on capital employed, good cash flow generation and have a management able to allocate the capital they generate in a profitable way, or they pay it back to the investors. Many international investors perceive the Swiss stock market as a defensive market, and not as a hunting ground for compounders. For Daniele, Switzerland is much more than just watches and chocolate. The country is multilingual, multicultural, and strongly oriented towards foreign markets. Switzerland has been leading the Economist Global Innovation Index for years. The World Economic Forum gives the Swiss the top spot in competitiveness, ahead of Singapore and the US. The country is also ranked first in global talent competitiveness. Many Swiss companies have assumed global market leadership in various industries. Despite the strong currency, exports have been growing at a yearly rate of 3.3% since 2000, more than imports. From this universe of 30-50 compounders, Scilingo invests into a concentrated portfolio of ideally 10-15. Danieles strategy is available through managed accounts and an equity note - BB nanos Investment Swiss Compounders – listed on and collateralised by SIX. The note has vastly outperformed the Swiss market index not only through the compounding companies but also because of Danieles ability to create significant additional Alpha through flexible position sizing, derivatives structures around stocks, and tactical buying. The note also comes with full transparency and investor-friendly fees: 0% management fee, 5% hurdle rate per annum with high watermark and 25% performance fee above the 5% hurdle. In this Opalesque.TV BACKSTAGE video, Daniele also talks about: Why the Swiss have more "Compounders" than many other stock markets The three pillars of compounding wealth Investment Process: Three methodologies to establish a firms value The importance of having diversified investment drivers in a portfolio How to hedge out the bad seasonality effects and unpredictable binary / political events Daniele Scilingo is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charterholder and joined Crossbow Partners AG in October 2015 as partner responsible to build an offering in traditional equity products under the nanos investment brand. Before assuming this position Daniele worked for Pictet Asset Management in London and Zurich for 14 years. He was responsible as a Director for the European Equity product, as well as for the restructuring of the Analyst teams and global investment approach. He also built and expanded Pictets Swiss Equities business, which became one of the leading performers under his leadership. Daniele previously worked for eight years as a sell side analyst specialising in the Chemicals and Medical Technology sectors. He also worked for Bank Vontobel, where he was a senior member of the team responsible for implementing European sector strategy. He then joined Credit Agricole Indosuez Cheuvreux and helped to set up the Swiss Office in Zurich. Crossbow Partners AG is an independent financial advisor that specializes in tailor-made advice for sophisticated clients with institutional needs. As one of the pioneers in Switzerland, Crossbow invested in active and alternative asset managers since the 1990s. The company was founded by former senior people of renowned family offices and is wholly owned by its employees. The company is supervised by the Swiss pension fund authority OAK BV (Oberaufsichtskommission Berufliche Vorsorge), has a FINMA license as distributor for collective investment schemes and is a member of the self-regulatory association VQF. BB nanos Swiss Compounders is a collateralized listed equity note issued by Bank am Bellevue, managed by nanos investment. The note offers exposure to Swiss "compounders" with the ability to hedge up to 100% of the market exposure via SMI and SMIM futures, options or warrants.

Why a central bank hates a safe haven
The Swiss franc has traditionally been a safe haven for investors in times of crisis. Why exactly has the Swiss National Bank been doing everything it can to sully the currency's reputation? (Michele Andina & Matthew Allen, swissinfo.ch). The banking crash of 2008 plunged several countries into stagnation or recession. Investors looked for a place that would preserve what assets they had left. People scrambled out of the euro and the US dollar and into the Swiss franc. This quickly had a dramatic effect on exchange rates. By the end of 2009 the euro had dropped below CHF1.50. Swiss exporters saw the price of their goods rise, making them less competitive in their main market of Europe. To make matters worse, the Swiss franc was also appreciating against the US dollar. In the autumn of 2010 $1 cost less than CHF1. The Swiss National Bank (SNB) decided to act. It printed Swiss francs and used them to buy up euros in an attempt to stop the franc from appreciating too strongly. This came at a cost. The SNB policy was increasingly criticized for being too unstable and risky. --- swissinfo.ch is the international branch of the Swiss Broadcasting Corporation (SBC). How to open a Swiss bank account
How do you open a Swiss bank account? And do you actually need it? It's important to understand the difference between opening an offshore account and doing your banking in Switzerland. The truth is that there are many conditions that you need to fulfill in order to qualify to have a Swiss bank account, and if you're a US citizen, you might as well forget about it. If you want to see further and find better banking options, then start by looking beyond Switzerland. There are great private banks that you can rely on in Singapore, for example, and the criteria for doing so is much easier to meet. Some of the offshore banks are found out of Switzerland, so don't limit your choices when there's no need to do so. What's more, you don't have to have a lot of money to open a bank account in those countries, you don't even have to travel there, which is a must when opening Swiss bank account. Subscribe to our channel and stay tuned for more videos and information about second passports, offshore strategy, reducing your taxes and going where you're treated best. --- ABOUT NOMAD CAPITALIST Andrew Henderson travels to nearly 30 countries every year to stay up to date on the latest legal strategies for entrepreneurs and investors to pay less tax, grow their money faster, and build their personal freedom. Andrew started Nomad Capitalist to help people like you follow his five magic words: "go where you're treated best". He has personally started foreign companies, opened offshore bank accounts, and obtained multiple second passports. He also learned the hard way that perpetual information seeking is often the biggest barrier to getting the results you want. Many entrepreneurs spend months and even years constantly researching how to pay less in tax or live overseas, but are afraid to make the jump. As a result, they get stuck and keep paying a fortune in taxes and never get the lifestyle they deserve. Nomad Capitalist's Youtube channel is based on Andrew's vision that focusing on the end result, rather than the latest shiny object, is the best way to actually obtain the benefits of the Nomad Capitalist lifestyle. How Banks Work - History of Banks Documentary - Documentary Films
CLICK HERE - http://activeterium.com/1DCR - FOR MORE FREE DOCUMENTARIES How Banks Work - History of Banks Documentary The history and purpose of the Federal Reserve Bank is not what is commonly believed to be the truth. Its function in the financial affairs of the United States carries a definite dark side to it - one that would shock the average US citizen. Here are some details about this 5-part article series exposing the real truth behind this very powerful agency and why the nation listens when it speaks. This first article lays the foundation of the history of the Federal Reserve by pointing out why there ever was an attempt to grab the controls of the reigns of agencies that produce the money in the US. Going back to England, it was shown that central banks have known for centuries that controlling the making and lending of currency to a nation ultimately means the power to control that nation. Before the Revolutionary War, the King of England, George III, working with the central Bank of England, had rejected the new currency of the Colonists in America. In its place, he wanted the Colonies to borrow English currency from the central bank of England with interest. The idea of being instantly indebted to England was quickly rejected by the Colonists - and war soon broke out. Benjamin Franklin believed that this action by the greedy money manipulators was probably the single most important reason behind the War. The War did not end the problem of the money manipulators, however, but their efforts to get control of America's money were renewed after the War. The international bankers program was to lend money with interest and to control its distribution. Through this means they would create a never-ending indebtedness of that nation to the central bankers which would continually make those bankers unbelievably wealthy. This was so much of an ongoing work by the international bankers that a number of attempts to establish a central bank in the United States had to be destroyed. Several attempts were even made in the twentieth century. At last, a situation was created that led many Americans to rush to withdraw their money from banks immediately. The false belief that it was failing, was all that was needed for the formation of a central bank system to be created in the United States. A secret meeting in 1910 had laid the plans for the Federal Reserve Act. It was passed and signed by President Woodrow Wilson in 1913. After he learned more about the truth of what it would mean to the American people, he deeply regretted it and called himself a "most unhappy man" for having brought it about - largely because of the campaign favors that it would bring him. One of the supposed reasons that the Federal Reserve was created was that it would create a much greater stability in our banking system. The appearance of failing banks brought the illusion that people needed this stability. It would be able to control inflation, and much more. The truth, however, is that financial chaos and panic was deliberately created by their actions - and many independent banks were destroyed in an effort to bring them under its control. Swiss Franc Investment Fallout
http://www.profitableinvestingtips.com/investing/swiss-franc-investment-fallout Swiss Franc Investment Fallout By www.ProfitableInvestingTips.com If you are a European homeowner, in Eastern Europe especially, who has a mortgage denominated in Swiss francs you are up the proverbial creek without a paddle! The BBC reports that 37% of all mortgages in Poland are denominated in francs and the franc just went up in value by more than twenty percent against every other currency! It's a very worrying time for many thousands of people in Central and Eastern Europe, as they helplessly watch the Swiss franc rise against their local currencies and see their mortgage repayments go up and up. An estimated 566,000 Poles have taken out Swiss franc-denominated loans, that's about 37% of all mortgages here. By Tuesday, the Swiss franc had risen 21% against the Polish zloty, following the Swiss National Bank's decision to abandon its currency ceiling against the euro last Thursday. It's not just Poles. Many Hungarians, Croats and Austrians have taken out Swiss franc-denominated loans. Doing business in Swiss francs just became a lot more expensive. Why did this happen? Supporting the Euro Became Too Expensive The most salient aspect of the Swiss franc has always been the rock hard stability of the currency. The dollar might slide and countries like Argentina might devalue their currency but the franc was always there, safe and secure. Because of this stability the franc has traditionally been a safe haven currency. However, Switzerland does not have a large economy compared to the Euro Zone and the Swiss had pegged their currency 1.2 francs to one euro, buying euros along the way to keep their currency from being overpriced and their exports competitive. But, as the euro slides the policy simply became too expensive. Reuters reports on the Swiss franc investment fallout after the Swiss Central Bank removed the cap on the euro. The Swiss National Bank shocked financial markets on Thursday by scrapping a three-year-old cap on the franc, sending the currency soaring against the euro and stocks plunging on fears for the export-reliant Swiss economy. [This move] sent the franc nearly 30 percent higher against the euro in chaotic early trading. Coming a week before the European Central Bank is expected to unveil a bond-buying program to counter deflationary pressures, it fed speculation that this quantitative easing (QE) scheme will be so big that the SNB would have struggled to defend the cap. With more than 40 percent of Swiss exports going to the euro zone, firms across Switzerland warned of a plunge in profits, with the luxury and tourism industries most exposed. The cost to Switzerland of supporting a weakening Euro would have been a lot but the cost of scrapping the policy may have been more. The Swiss franc investment fallout is spread across the globe and within Switzerland itself. What is the Swiss franc investment fallout for offshore investing? How do currency rates figure in when you put your money in an offshore bank or invest in a business offshore? Investment and Trust In an uncertain world foreign direct investment, banking offshore or simply putting your money in a fund that invests offshore requires trust. The Guardian offers their opinion that Switzerland’s special status as a trusted asset and investment haven is gone. The abolition of the Swiss franc cap means the country is no longer a safe haven, and the consequences could be grave. We may have just witnessed the start of an entire new chapter in Swiss history. At the moment no one seems entirely capable of giving a confident prediction of precisely what the future will hold. But there is a vague consensus that Switzerland is facing a tough future. People here used to see their country as an island of tranquility in a sea of euro-crisis tears. Those days look certain to be over. We have seen money flowing out of Russia due to a worsening investment climate. Brazil ceased to be everyone’s darling when China reduced its demand for raw materials. And China is becoming questionable as the four decade long economic miracle is cooling off. Japan is in a recession and the EU is heading that way. The USA is the only major economy on the upswing and in an instant it has become a lot cheaper to invest in the USA than Switzerland. http://youtu.be/-yl2B4frLcE

Swiss gold's S.O.S - Business Middle East
The Swiss National Bank currently faces one of its biggest challenges - Save Our Swiss Gold - a referendum on its gold holdings organised by the Swiss People's Party. Politicians believe that the bank's efforts to keep the Swiss franc from getting too strong have left it holding too many devalued euros, at a time when the eurozone economy is weak. November 30 will be the decisive day that the Swiss vote on the 'Save our Swiss Gold' initiative. The referendum, which is the idea of the right-wing Swiss People's Party, could put the country's national bank under intense pressure. If it is voted through, there would be a ban on Switzerland's central bank selling any of its bullion and, within five years, at least 20 percent of its general reserve assets would have to be made up of the precious metal - right now it's just under eight percent. The Swiss National Bank would also have to start bringing back the gold it currently has stored in the vaults of the British and Canadian central banks... Philosophy of High Finance: Investment & Merchant Banking - Siegmund Warburg (2010)
Sir Siegmund George Warburg (30 September 1902 -- 22 October 1982) was a German-born English banker. He was a member of the prominent Warburg family. He played a prominent role in the development of merchant banking. About the book: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0143119400/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=0143119400&linkCode=as2&tag=tra0c7-20&linkId=8eafa2f4e4e51085cfda44a58b5a9e55 He was born in the village of Seeburg, Germany (today part of Bad Urach), the only child of Georges Siegmund Warburg and Lucie. Georges Siegmund Warburg and Lucie raised a young Siegmund Warburg on an estate (Uhenfels Castle) in Swabia in South West Germany far away from the main branch of the family, which operated the second largest bank in Hamburg, up north. Siegmund had a sincere and deep affection for his mother who taught him to have a critical and inquisitive mind. In the period immediately before the Second World War he worked under cover for the Z Organisation, a highly secret offshoot of MI6/SIS, and reported impressively from Switzerland on his regular meetings with Hjalmar Schacht, then the president of the Nazi German Reichsbank and thus the most powerful German banker. He was forced to flee the National Socialist regime of Adolf Hitler and moved to the United Kingdom in 1934 where he co-founded S. G. Warburg & Co. in 1946 with Henry Grunfeld. In the United Kingdom, Siegmund was considered an 'upstart' to the establishment in the City of London. His most famous achievement was the establishment of the EuroBond market. He firmly believed that financial integration of Europe was an essential and natural step in the development of the European economy. The firm that he created with Grunfeld, S.G. Warburg & Co., was a major British investment bank (merchant bank at the time), and Siegmund was the bank's managing director until the 1970s - when although he officially had retired and was living in Switzerland, still retained a personal secretary to draft correspondence and assist with the operations of the firm. Control of the firm S.G. Warburg and Co. was retained through a family controlled holding company called 'Mercury Securities', where stock was allocated to S.G. Warburg & Co. partners as well as his Swedish wife and children. The firm S.G. Warburg & Co. was acquired by UBS AG creating UBS Warburg, which then after a rebranding exercise was dropped, leaving only UBS AG. He was also simultaneously a partner in the U.S. investment bank Kuhn, Loeb from 1953 until 1964 through a holding company to avoid the restrictions of the Glass--Steagall Act. He died in London in 1982. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siegmund_Warburg The Warburg family is a prominent family and financial dynasty of German Jewish descent, noted for their varied accomplishments in investment banking, physics, classical music, art history, pharmacology, physiology, finance, private equity and philanthropy. They originated as the Venetian Jewish del Banco family, one of the wealthiest Venetian families in the early 1500s. Following restrictions imposed on banking and the Jewish community, they fled to Bologna, and thence to Warburg, in Germany, in the 16th century, after which they took their name. The family re-established itself in Altona, near Hamburg in the 17th century, and it was there that M. M. Warburg & Co. was established in 1798, among the oldest still existing investment banks in the world. Other banks created by members of the family include: M.M.Warburg & Co., Warburg Pincus, S. G. Warburg & Co. (becoming UBS Warburg). The family is traditionally divided into two prominent lines, the Alsterufer Warburgs and the Mittelweg Warburgs. The Alsterufer Warburgs descended from Siegmund Warburg (1835--1889) and the Mittelweg Warburgs descended from his brother Moritz M. Warburg (1838--1910). They took their nicknames from the brothers' respective addresses in Hamburg. The brothers were grandsons of Moses Marcus Warburg. Siegmund George Warburg was of the Alsterufer line; the five brothers Abraham (Aby) M., Max M., Paul M., Felix M. and Fritz Moritz Warburg were of the Mittelweg line. The brothers Moses Marcus Warburg (1763--1830) and Gerson Warburg (1765--1826) founded the M. M. Warburg & Co. banking company in 1798. Moses Warburg's great-great grandson, Siegmund George Warburg, founded the investment bank S. G. Warburg & Co in London in 1946. Siegmund's second cousin, Eric Warburg, founded Warburg Pincus in New York in 1938. Eric Warburg's son Max Warburg (not to be confused with Eric's father Max Warburg) is currently one of the three partners of M.M.Warburg & Co., Warburg. Max Warburg's elder brother Aby Warburg used his money to establish the Kulturwissenschaftliche Bibliothek Warburg in Hamburg, since 1934 The Warburg Institute in London. Paul Warburg is most famous an advocate of the US Federal Reserve System, established in 1913. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warburg_family
