Financing Options In The Mining Industry

01:05:27
How do gold companies finance themselves? The global mining industry is very capital intensive and requires hundreds of millions to take a project from exploration to production. This means that companies must be good at raising capital to develop projects and create shareholder value. The four key sources of financing are; - Equity financing; common shares & flow-through shares - Internal funds - Debt financing - Alternative financing through royalty or streaming agreements Skip ahead to the mining stage that interests you; 9:25 - Exploration Stage 28:50 - Evaluation Stage 47:15 - Development Stage 58:40 - Production Stage In this video, I cover some important question related to the financial side of the mining industry. - How do junior exploration companies finance themselves? - What are royalty agreements? What is a Net smelter royalty? - What are streaming agreements? - What are the trade-offs between royalty and streaming agreements? - What is the capital pool company program and how has it helped the mining industry? - What are earn-in JVs and how can they help junior exploration companies? David van Wyk on the Platinum Mining Industry in SA

54:15
This presentation, by David van Wyk, explains the background to the Marikana massacre in South Africa in 2012. David works with the Bench Mark Foundation which monitors and advocates the effect of the mining industries in Southern Africa. Here he talks about the role of Platinum mining in South Africa. He explains how the methods and practices of the Lonmin mining company - the richest in the world - have created havoc and devastation both in the mines and the communities engaged with mining, and how these led to the confrontations which ended in the tragic shooting of 44 members of the National Union of Mineworkers on 16 August 2012. This presentation was given to a colloquium on 'South Africa's low-wage economy held near Johannesburg between the 15th and 17th of November 2012, and organised by the journal 'Amandla'.

Canada Plans Regulation For Crypto Mining Via Excess Hydroelectric Power

01:31
Canada Plans Regulation For Crypto Mining Via Excess Hydroelectric Power Subscribe: http://bit.ly/CryptoCoinNewsYT Canada is currently in the process of drawing up regulation for cryptocurrencies. A special framework devised by Couillard government back in May of this year brought an interesting proposition, that includes the sale of Quebec’s hydroelectric plants’ excess power. If adopted, the regulations will see this power sold to crypto miners to backfill the resources needed for the activity of mining cryptos. Le Journal de Montreal‘s recent report states that Pierre Moreau, the Minister of Energy of Canada, is focussed on the crypto mining industry and, in particular, the energy usage that accompanies this sector. Hydro-Quebec, Quebec’s main supplier of hydroelectric power, turned down miners’ requests for the cheaper power back in March of this year. According to the company, the main concern is that mining could sap up to 25% of the power output since the estimated number of mining companies exceeds 100, and they all made requests seeking a reduction in the price of energy needed for mining, In a new twist, after Quebec assessed the possibility of economic benefits accompanying the mining of cryptocurrencies, a survey was launched as part of the investigation into this matter. A report issued by the Auditor General brought interesting results, stating that Hydro-Quebec produces a large amount of excess power, in the region of 13 TWh.
