Foundations: The value of block play

29:32
From this flows rich social and cognitive learning as well as confidence and independent thought. Because there is no correct use of blocks, there is no failure; each success encourages the next experiment. Block play provides amazing opportunities to observe children, giving glimpses into their thinking. We can almost hear a child’s thoughts as we watch and listen. Children use the language of blocks to communicate ideas, building a firm foundation for future forms of self-expression, such as written language. The foundation comes first!
Principle 1: Creating a Foundation / Core Values

00:53
Principle 1: Core ethical and performance values are defined, implemented and embedded into school culture. Schools that effectively promote good character come to agreement on the core values they most wish to instill in their students. Some schools use other terms such as virtues, traits, pillars, or expectations to refer to the desirable character qualities they wish to foster. The school makes clear that these basic human values transcend religious and cultural differences and express our common humanity. Examples of core ethical values are caring, honesty, fairness, and respect for self and others. Examples of performance values include diligence, best effort, perseverance, critical thinking, and positive attitude. The school community selects and commits to its core values as the foundation for how people interact and do their best work in the school. In schools committed to character development, the selected core values drive all decision making, codes of conducts, relationships, and hiring practices.

"The Evolutionary Foundations of Literature" - Joseph Carroll

01:10:42
In his lecture entitled "The Evolutionary Foundations of Literature," Joseph Carroll argues that our evolutionary past entwines itself into all our stories, making human meaning out of biological rhythms and relationships. Individual people construct internal narratives about their own lives, and thus define their identities, values, and goals. According to Carroll, every society tells a collective story about itself: its origins, its virtues, and its purposes. Drawing on recent research in the evolutionary social sciences and humanities, Carroll delineates the human life cycle and describes the universal literary themes that emerge from that cycle. He also explains how every individual culture and person modulates the universal themes of human nature. This “biocultural” view of imagination opens a path to new forms of literary study, and it suggests a vast, humanistic expansion in the concept of human nature. Boole polynumbers and equivalent circuits | Math Foundations 264 | N J Wildberger

37:36
We want to explain how to associate algebraic expressions to logic circuits which encode their values on various input values, in other words which encode the Boolean functions of circuits. We first review the idea of a polynumber, as opposed to a polynomial, which allows us to concentrate on the list, or array of coefficients rather than the variables themselves. Then when we move to having coefficients from the bifield B_2={0,1} we get Poly B_2. An important variant is what we call Boole polynumbers, which are the objects that naturally get associated to Boolean functions, or the effects of logic gates. Equivalent circuits have identical Boole polynumbers, so these are important invariants for circuits. The final slide looks at an example from Mandy Orzechowski at https://youtu.be/UNAU7ti4r8E around 6:48.

How Morals Influence If You're Liberal Or Conservative

Are your political views based on facts or your morals? What makes a libertarian tick? Peter Ditto explains how morals shape our worldview. Subscribe! http://bit.ly/1fUWHyY How Power Makes People Selfish: https://youtu.be/0vvl46PmCfE UC Irvine Professor Peter Ditto studies human judgment and decision-making. Ditto is fascinated by biases and "motivated reasoning," where people's beliefs and morals influence their interpretation of facts. Ditto started in health psychology but soon found an even richer trove of human biases: American politics, where liberals and conservatives seem to operate on completely different sets of facts. Ditto's research finds that liberals and conservatives are easy to characterize based on their moral beliefs, but where do libertarians fit in? Classical Management Theory

10:49
Classical Management Theory, broadly speaking, is based upon Henri Fayol, Frederick Taylor, and Max Weber's overlapping management theories. These three management theories came together to form what we generally refer to nowadays as Classical Management Theory. Virtually all areas of organizational studies from management, to business, to organizational communication put these three theorists at the foundation of most modern day organizations for developing theories of 1) Administrative science, 2) Scientific Management, and 3) Bureaucracy. Taken together, they form the basis for how we organizational structures and relationships between managers and employes. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1433131234/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=alexlyon-20&camp=1789&creative=9325&linkCode=as2&creativeASIN=1433131234&linkId=6bfd9c333c786d16025c5a7c70a3ef4c The Organizational Communication Channel provides supplemental lessons for traditional, hybrid, and 100% online courses for students and teachers everywhere. Juan Pedro Bolivar - "The most valuable values"

01:18:08
The modern C++ community puts a strong emphasis on **value semantics**. We know how to build types and algorithms thinking in terms of values, their properties and relationships. However, when it gets to the big picture - the "architecture" - we end up growing ad-hoc webs of mutable objects that perform poorly and are hard to understand, debug and maintain. In this talk, we'll learn what value semantics are about in a fundamental way. We'll then use values where they matter most: the architectural foundations of our system! As an example, we'll present the **Unidirectional Data Flow Architecture**, that is changing how people build interactive software. We'll show some patterns, examples and tools that make it easy to implement, and efficient to execute. We will also present Lager, a library that implements such architecture and augments value-based programs with *time-travel* capabilities!

The Ethics of Discernment: Lonergan's Foundations for Ethics

26:02
by Patrick H. Byrne, In The Ethics of Discernment, Patrick H. Byrne presents an approach to ethics that builds upon the cognitional theory and the philosophical method of self-appropriation that Bernard Lonergan introduced in his book Insight, as well as upon Lonergan’s later writing on ethics and values. Extending Lonergan’s method into the realm of ethics, Byrne argues that we can use self-appropriation to come to objective judgements of value. The Ethics of Discernment is an introspective analysis of that process, in which sustained ethical inquiry and attentiveness to feelings as “intentions of value” leads to a rich conception of the good. Written both for those with an interest in Lonergan’s philosophy and for those interested in theories of ethics who have only a limited knowledge of Lonergan’s work, Byrne’s book is the first detailed exposition of an ethical theory based on Lonergan’s philosophical method.

There's a concerted attack against the teaching of Special Religious Education (SRE) in public schools, but what's more sinister is the value system replacing it. The shadowy hands behind what our children are being taught belong to our old friends at the UN (Useless Nations?). Can anyone say "globalisation"? Because of the possible repercussions against her youngest child who's still in high school, "Mrs A" can't be properly identified. I can tell you she was a teacher for ten years before moving into professional education - teaching teachers. Now she works for external contractors to state departments of education, helping them skill up in specific subjects, delivering training in curriculum, and gets to interact with hundreds of teachers each year. With this special access, she is well positioned to share what's really going on in our schools and their staff rooms that the general public has no idea about. * * * * * * * ALL MY VIDEOS have been demonitised by YouTube. That's as insane as not showing ad's between stories on 60 Minutes because the topics are tough or controversial. 2. Foundations: This Is Your Brain

53:19
Introduction to Psychology (PSYC 110) This lecture introduces students to two broad theories of how the mind relates to the body. Dualism is the ubiquitous and intuitive feeling that our conscious mind is separate from our physical bodies, whereas Materialism is the idea that all of our mental states are caused by physical states of the brain. This lecture reviews arguments explaining why materialism has become the predominant theory of mind in psychology. This discussion is followed by a basic overview of the neurophysiology of the brain. 00:00 - Chapter 1. The Brain, the Mind and Dualism 12:06 - Chapter 2. Scientific Consensus Against Dualism 19:28 - Chapter 3. The Neuron: The Basic Building Blocks of Thought 32:58 - Chapter 4. The Different Parts of the Brain 44:47 - Chapter 5. Newton and Locke: Foundations of the Enlightenment (The Philosophes: Thinkers of the Enlightenment)

06:23
https://www.tomrichey.net/enlightenment.html In this first segment of my lecture on the philosophes (Enlightenment thinkers), I note the contributions of John Locke and Isaac Newton in laying the foundations for the Enlightenment. Although Locke and Newton lived before the Enlightenment, the philosophes relied heavily on their ideas. John Locke's social contract, which asserted that governments exist to protect individual liberty, was foundational for those who sought to advance freedom of thought in the eighteenth century. Isaac Newton's laws of physics, which outlined a rational universe governed by natural law, became popular with philosophes like Voltaire who wished to apply scientific principles to religion and society. Although Newton and Locke had come and gone by the time the Enlightenment hit Europe in full-swing, they gave the movement a starting point and a foundation that it would have otherwise lacked. The Constitution, the Articles, and Federalism: Crash Course US History #8

13:04
In which John Green teaches you about the United States Constitution. During and after the American Revolutionary War, the government of the new country operated under the Articles of Confederation. While these Articles got the young nation through its war with England, they weren't of much use when it came to running a country. So, the founding fathers decided try their hand at nation-building, and they created the Constitution of the United States, which you may remember as the one that says We The People at the top. John will tell you how the convention came together, some of the compromises that had to be made to pass this thing, and why it's very lucky that the framers installed a somewhat reasonable process for making changes to the thing. You'll learn about Shays' Rebellion, the Federalist Papers, the elite vs rabble dynamic of the houses of congress, and start to find out just what an anti-federalist is. Foundations of Morality 2 (Re: TJdoeslife)

10:56
All rationality is based on a foundation of irrationality. I think that core values and instinct are the two irrational bases from which all rational human behavior (moral philosophy included) spring. From there, I give some hope to the prospect of modifying our core values, which are changeable, in order to manipulate our instinct (which is non-changeable) so that our actions can overcome some of our less desired traits or natures, and steer us to a brighter future. This is a response to TJdoeslife's video about the human need to compete- instinctively valuing their own success over others'. This is on the same subject as another walk and talk series I'm doing, so I'm titling it as such. (I haven't finished my initial thoughts, which is why I haven't posted Foundations of Morality 1, as it's incomplete for now.)

Sara Omar The 70th anniversary Universal Declaration of Human Rights Speech

13:14
The 70th anniversary Universal Declaration of Human Rights Speech: Sara Omar We have a dream. Every one of us who has come here today. A dream of unity, fellowship under the umbrella of democracy. A dream that started with Martin Luther King and is still alive today. A dream of justice. Equality and compassion. A dream that will continue to be dreamed, until this dream shakes the earth under the feet of those who are unjust, finally coming to fruition. We believe in this dream. A dream where we are all equal no matter where we are arbitrarily born or what religion or skin color we arbitrarily have been given. We stand here with the torches high in the air in a peaceful demonstration in the middle of Copenhagen and fight for human rights and equality. Everyone is equal to the law, they say. But those who enforce the law are not always honorable enough to protect our values. The values that are the foundations of our society. Some politicians have forgotten our norms and our basic values. They have forgotten what the forefathers and mothers of Denmark have been fighting for. All that they have built. Everything they fought for. Everything they bleed for. Today, some politicians are beginning to sell out these values by selling fear and dishonest news about the world beyond our borders. It is therefore our most important task as citizens in this beautiful country to fight for our freedom. And we will fight until the day when the politicians will place the basic values of democracy higher than their careers. Where they will place humanity higher than their careers. Where they will no longer make fun of Danes who help people in need by calling them "The Naive Compassion Industry." Where they no longer call Africans, Arabs, Afghans, Turks, Kurds and Palestinians primitive and backward. They are not backward. They are beaten back. They have been beaten to dust by decades of war, famine and injustice. The greed of the great powers created these wars, where the minerals and richness of these lands are being stolen. Africa should be one of the world's richest continents. But it is not - because robbers and criminals from all over the world divide and steal from them. Afghanistan would have been rebuilt to European standards if these powers had allowed all the lithium found to belong to the Afghan people. But this is probably not going to happen. People who have lived during wars for over 4 decades are not backward. They are beaten back. They have only one choice: and it is to survive the war or escape it with their children under their arms. It is not how much bacon or beer that we eat and drink that makes us Danish. It follows from our actions and how we treat our fellow human beings. It is in crisis and adversity that we show what we are actually made of. When crises come, we find out who is fighting, who is fleeing, and who is selling out our values for almost nothing. Money comes and goes, my friend, and it has never made anyone happy. But the values that are felt in our veins and tattooed on our hearts will remain forever: they will pass all trials put before them. Democracy and Danish dignity are not at risk because of people who come in from the outside. Democracy and Danish dignity are in danger from within. violated and injected with anxiety. A people brainwashed. This year, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights reaches its 70th anniversary. 70 years!!! And yet there are still women, men, children and minorities treated inhumanly and unfairly: human rights are still violated in a myriad of countries worldwide, including Denmark. That is why human rights are more relevant than ever. Because the world has not improved. Because people still do not treat each other properly and with respect, honor and dignity. Because the world is governed by money, power, narcissism, patriarchal mentalities and paternalistic attitudes. I dream like Martin Luther King and I dream like John Lennon - about a world where we all live in peace side by side, despite our diversity.

The Significance of Ethics and Ethics Education in Daily Life | Michael D. Burroughs | TEDxPSU

10:32
Although we might not realize it, we all face ethical issues on a regular basis. But how do we know how to respond well to these issues, to make better (as opposed to worse) ethical decisions? In this TEDx talk Dr. Michael D. Burroughs discusses the numerous kinds of ethical issues we face, possibilities for increasing our ethical awareness as "everyday ethicists," and the importance of introducing ethics and philosophical education in our schools. Dr. Burroughs also discusses the role of ethics in the lives of children and ways in which adults can attempt to understand and learn from children in ethical discussions. Michael D. Burroughs is a philosopher, ethicist, educator (and beekeeper). Michael earned his PhD. in Philosophy from the University of Memphis and currently serves as Associate Director of the Rock Ethics Institute and Senior Lecturer of Philosophy at Penn State. Michael has published widely on topics in ethics, the philosophy of education, and childhood. In addition, he has devoted much of his professional career to practicing philosophy and ethics with populations beyond the university, including children in K-12 schools, prison inmates, and senior citizens. Michael's forthcoming book (co-authored with Jana Mohr Lone) is entitled Philosophy in Education: Questioning and Dialogue in Schools (Rowman and Littlefield, 2016) and addresses the purpose, theory, and practice of teaching philosophy and ethics in K-12 schools. In addition to his professional pursuits, Michael enjoys spending time in the out-of-doors, playing music, and traveling, among other things. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx

Foundations Of Success 28: Become A Leader - Overview Audio

09:34
The Foundations Of Success 28: Become A Leader Leadership is a Foundation that all Great men learn and apply. But it is a foundation that is most often counterfeited, and becomes a burden to those subjected to it. Any man can place himself in this position, but if not gotten right, the affects can be devastating to all involved. Leadership, true leadership, takes a great deal of character, skill, and courage. You must have a character that inspires. You must have skills to set roles, delegate, inspire vision, and correct where necessary. You must have influence, and know how to properly enact it. And you must have Courage. The courage to correct, to change, to call attention to faults, and to correct and improve yourself at every level. But this foundation, if mastered, is the one that will continuously multiply all other foundations beneath it and keep you charging headlong into success. Leaders understand how to get successful results from others, they know that their success depends ultimately on the success of others below them, thus they have a desire to see others succeed. They care about the purpose of their position, and they cultivate talent at every turn. Keep these things in mind as you set out to develop yourself as a leader. Lead from Personal Power. Lead from Godliness. Live out your Virtues and your Values. Know who you are. Have your identity and base your actions solely on Who You Are, and Who You Want To Be, and you won’t have regrets. Know your virtues and values, and stick to them. Don’t be swayed by the wind or tide. A leader knows how to delegate. Pairing tasks with the right person for the job is a huge key to success. If you can learn to divide the vision, and thus the workload, up between skillful people, and get them to own their share of the vision, you can accomplish anything. A leader is kind and considerate, but firm and bold. You can be a leader or you can make excuses. But you can’t do both. Leadership is all about getting results. At the end of the day, you either produce or you don’t. Build your character: Anyone who wishes to lead in life must be worth following. Don’t just think about leadership in business, but instead think of being worthy in all areas of your life. If you do this, rather than solely focusing on being a good leader in business, your business leadership skills will flourish and be enriched by the rest of your developed qualities. If you set to work on your overall character, every branch of your life will benefit. A leader with a strong, well-defined character, is a leader that stands above all the rest. By becoming a man of great character you raise yourself to a position admired by all. Fail to work on your character though and you may lead for a time, but you will soon find yourself neglected, forgotten, and rejected. ---- LEARN THE FOUNDATIONS OF SUCCESS: http://www.lifestylebillionaireclub.com/sign-up-2/ ---- Limitless North is a personal development channel that breaks down success secrets, tips and tricks for small businesses, self employed business owners, and those who are looking to become inspired, motivated, disciplined, and driven. MAPSYS Tech Minute - Document Imaging Foundations

03:11
http://www.mapsysinc.com/document-imaging-foundations [email protected] 614-224-5193 TRANSCRIPT: Welcome to the MAPSYS Tech Minute, I'm Chris Heiberger and the topic is Document Management. Whether you've got a small project to clear out your file rooms and reclaim space or want to integrate document images in to your daily work flow, we've got the right solution for your business. Document Imaging Foundations is a Microsoft Gold Certified solution developed by MAPSYS to meet the needs of our customers, who expressed a desire to have a comprehensive solution that was reliable, affordable, and could grow as your needs grow. The scanning interface is easy to use and was designed to support quick indexing of documents and easy retrieval. Many of our customers integrate Document Imaging Foundations with their processing systems, so documents are readily available by hitting a function key or clicking on an icon to get to the information they need quickly. Additionally, Document Imaging Foundations can often easily integrate with your processing system, allowing a user to key in a primary index and then pull other important index values from your database to support retrieval of documents by a person's name, company name, date, etc. This integration reduces data entry errors as well. Other indexing methods can also be used, such as bar codes or OCR. These types of methods further reduce the time it takes to get documents into the system, and they are immediately available to everyone. Your system may generate documents like invoices or purchase orders. Document Imaging Foundations can capture those electronic documents and their index values and store them, without having to print, scan or index. You may also want to create a document workflow for processes such as Accounts Payable that might require approvals to be completed by someone within the organization. Route documents, add comments, and complete tasks without passing paper! Another important consideration in any imaging solution is security. Document Imaging Foundations can be tied in to your active directory to define role based access, or permissions can be set up within the application itself. There is also functionality that allows redaction, and users can either be allowed to view redacted information or not based on the permissions granted. If you currently don't have a document imaging solution, have a solution that you are not happy with, or can't get the support from your current vendor then it is time to call us and set up a time for a demo. Our experienced teams have implemented this solution within manufacturing companies, financial companies, municipal courts, state, county, and local government offices. Our pricing model is also simple. You pay for the server license and the cost of services based on your installation Our goal is to make the system fit the way you do business, rather than make you change the way you do business to allow for imaging. You'll find my contact information below.

Ernst Fehr | Beliefs, values and business success

21:14
Free download: https://www.ubscenter.uzh.ch/en/publications/public_papers.html Ernst Fehr argues at the UBS Center Forum session on culture and economic prosperity that corporate culture is important because human behavior is always co-determined by the prevailing social norms. Ernst Fehr is a Professor of Microeconomics and Experimental Economics at the Department of Economics at the University of Zurich and Director of the UBS International Center of Economics in Society. He is a former president of the Economic Science Association and of the European Economic Association, honorary member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and John Kenneth Galbraith Fellow of the American Academy of Political and Social Sciences. Ernst Fehr’s research interests include social and biological foundations of human motivation, the effects of social and economic incentives on human behavior, and the optimal design of contracts and institutions. In his UBS Center Public Paper, Ernst Fehr argues that corporate culture is important because human behavior is always co-determined by the prevailing social norms. It is in the company’s interest to shape these norms through a cooperative culture that mobilizes employees’ voluntary cooperation in the pursuit of the firm’s performance goals. There are many views and opinions on what a good corporate culture is like. But they often lack a sound understanding of what drives behavior in a company. Experimental and behavioral economics sheds light on the underlying decision-making processes and helps managers to positively influence their employees’ behavior. Based on scientific data, it provides answers to questions such as which rules and incentives are needed for a successful corporate culture, how can we limit free-rider effects, and how can we foster productive and constructive cooperation among employees? Core Values VBC- This is CORE

01:22
At Core Values VBC our Core Values are what set us apart- we believe in developing confident, disciplined, determined individuals that can dominate the volleyball court and then go conquer their every day lives. We strive to provide a positive environment for each athlete while at the same time pushing them to perform physically and academically. Nearly 100% of our athletes are currently honor roll students at their schools. And when it comes to high school volleyball season 100% of our athletes have made their high school teams over the last 4 years, many of them starting on JV as freshman. We take pride in our community and all of our coaches and athletes participate in different community service events each season. From raising almost $9k for the St. Baldricks foundation for childhood cancer research, to supply drives for the homeless, to making dog houses and toys for local animal shelters, and supporting our troops through various military foundations, we've found a way for 100% of our families to volunteer time to something important to them. And while we work hard to be great volleyball players, community contributors and academic all-stars we don't forget that you have to find balance in life and have some fun! We work hard on our culture and have created a family environment with team dinners and group outings to bring us all closer together.

The Foundation of America

10:36
The importance of understanding the foundations of this great country are essential to maintaining your way of life. America was founded on Judeo-Christian values and traditions. The men who drafted and signed documents such as the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution understood and wanted to pass on to posterity for protection of this nation, risking their lives and fortunes to defend it. The common attitude of many teachers and students today is that our founding fathers were deists. Christian parents should be ashamed that the public school system somehow perpetrates such lies and defamation of great men who had unwavering faith towards God.
