005 - Water Resources In this video Paul Andersen explains how water is unequally distributed around the globe through the hydrologic cycles. Seawater is everywhere but is not useful without costly desalination. Freshwater is divided between surface water and groundwater but must me stored and moved for domestic, industrial, and agricultural uses. Subsidized low cost water has created a problem with water conservation but economic changes could help solve the problem. Do you speak another language? Nebraska Water Resources- Informative Speech

05:18
Title: Water Resources in Nebraska Topic: Water Resources in Nebraska Specific Purpose Statement: To inform about Nebraska’s water resources, why they are important to Nebraska, and address water resource issues. Thesis: Water is a vitally important natural resource as it is a part of our everyday lives, and is especially important to the state of Nebraska. Introduction: Water. It covers 70 percent of the earth’s surface, but only one percent of that is available for use and has to be shared worldwide to provide for a variety of needs. Water is a vitally important natural resource as it is a part of our everyday lives, and is especially important to the state of Nebraska. Nebraska has some of the best water resources in the nation and in the world. Since water is a critical natural resource, today I will be informing you about the different water resources in Nebraska, water’s importance to Nebraska, and issues that Nebraska faces with the natural resource of water. Body: I.Different Water Resources in NE A.Groundwater 1.Aquifers beneath earth’s surface 2.Used for agriculture, towns, & industrial use a.85% of the NE’s pop. uses groundwater as drinking water (NE Dep. of Environ. Qual., 2017) b.Ogallala Aquifer i.Covers 174,000 sq. mi. stretching over SD, NE, WY, CO, KS, OK, NM, & N TX (NE Trial Lawyers, 2017) ii.Could cover the state with nearly 40 feet of water if it were all pumped to the surface (Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality, 2017) B.Surface Water 1.Streams, rivers, lakes a.Nebraska has 18,000 miles of rivers and streams and 430 square miles of lakes (Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality, 2017) i.Wildlife and native fish species rely on Nebraska’s streams for survival and prosperity b.Platte River 2.Water quality:good enough to support fish, aquatic life, swimming, irrigation, & drinking water (NE Dep. of Environ. Qual, 2017) 3.Surface water used for irrigation, hydropower, industrial use, municipal use, domestic use, storage, and other uses require a State permit (Nebraska Department of Natural Resources, 2017) II.Water’s Importance to Nebraska A.Agriculture 1.Ogallala Aquifer:15 million acres of crops ea. yr. (Nebraska Trial Lawyers, 2017) 2.Nebraska’s 8 million acres of cropland under irrigation is ranked number one in the U.S. (Hendee, 2015) B.Economic Growth 1.Irrigated agriculture in Nebraska contributes $3.6 to $4.5 billion in net economic impact (Nebraska Trial Lawyers, 2017) 2.Irrigation contributed $11 billion to Nebraska’s economy in 2012 during one of the worst droughts in the state’s history (Hendee, 2015) III.Issues A.Nebraska’s waterways are the sixth worst in the nation for toxic pollution (Laukaitis, 2014) 1.Nitrate B.Contamination 1.addition of harmful chemicals to natural water 2.Runoff from rain and irrigation can carry chemicals into streams and urban and rural areas 3.Fertilizers & agriculture chemicals have already reached groundwater in parts of the state 4.10.5 million lbs of toxic chemicals into rivers in 2012 (Laukaitis, 2014) 5.Nitrates:serious health problems (Laukaitis, 2014) a.causes cancer b.Infants and children:grow, learn, and develop Conclusion: Water is basic to all things and so essential. Groundwater and surface water are equally as important as they both support agriculture, domestic, and industrial use, wildlife, the environment and so much more. It is especially significant to Nebraska for agricultural use. It is important to be aware of the always increasing demand for water and the issues that Nebraska and the world face concerning it. Water is essential to living and we should be grateful for the abundance of water that we have right here in Nebraska. References Hendee, D. (2015, November 29). 14:45
This is just a demo video, for more videos and full syllabus please contact us on 8287971571 or 0261-4890014. Water Resources: CBSE Class 10 X | Social Studies | Video Lecture WATER RESOURCES 1. We already know that three-fourth of the earth’s surface is covered with water, but only a small proportion of it accounts for fresh water that can be used. 2. This fresh water is mainly obtained from surface run off and ground water that is continually being renewed and recharged through the hydrological cycle. 3. All water moves within the hydrological cycle ensuring that water is a renewable resource. WATER SCARCITY AND THE NEED FOR WATER CONSERVATION AND MANAGEMENT: 1. The moment we speak of water shortages, we immediately associate it with regions having low rainfall or those that are drought prone. 2. The availability of water resources varies over space and time, mainly due to the variations in seasonal and annual precipitation, but water scarcity in most cases is caused by over – exploitation, excessive use and unequal access to water among different social groups. 3. Water scarcity may be an outcome to large and growing population and consequent greater demands for water and unequal access to it. 4. A large population means more water not only for domestic use but also to produce more food. 5. Industries, apart from being heavy users of water, also require power to run them. Indian Rivers And Water Resources 10th Class Social Studies State Syllabus And CBSE Syllabus

32:42
10th class social 5th lesson Indian Rivers And Water Resources 10th Class Social Studies State Syllabus And CBSE Syllabus Useful For CBSE And ICSE Geography Syllabus The drainage system in India can be divided into two categories  1)Himalayan rives and 2) Peninsular rivers. The Indus, the Ganga and the Brahmaputra are the Himalayan rives. The Ganga is joined by a large number of tributaries. The main tributaries of the Indus are Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi, Beas and Sutlej. The Western Ghats are the water divide between the major peninsular rivers, which discharge their water in the Bay of Bengal. The Godavari is the largest peninsular river system. Any area inflow = precipitation + surface flow + ground water flow. The total amount of water added to the atmosphere from the evaporation and transpiration is called Evapotranspiration. A portion of the rainfall percolates into the soil and travels to the underground strata and recharges the aquifers.
